The 1967 AFL Championship Game was the eighth American Football League championship game, played on December 31 at Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum in Oakland, California.It matched the Western Division champion Oakland Raiders (13–1) and the Eastern Division champion Houston Oilers (9–4–1) to decide the American Football League (AFL) champion for the 1967 season. Quarterback Daryle Lamonica, traded from the Buffalo Bills in the offseason, led the Raiders to a 13–1 record, throwing 30 touchdown passes in the process. The Oilers went from last place in the East in 1966 (3–11) to first in 1967, beating out the New York Jets by a game. Most of the Oilers' offense centered on big fullback Hoyle Granger, and a midseason quarterback trade for the shifty Pete Beathard (sending their own starter, Jacky Lee, to the defending champion Kansas City Chiefs) proved to be the spark that turned Houston's season around. The teams had met once in the regular season, three weeks earlier in Houston, with Oakland winning 19–7 to clinch the Western division title. This was Houston's fourth and final appearance (1960, 1961, 1962) in the title game and Oakland's first. In contrast to the frigid conditions earlier in the day at the NFL championship game in Green Bay, the temperature for the AFL title game in northern California was 47 °F (8 °C). The host Raiders were ten-point favorites.Oakland won 40–7 and shredded the Oilers with 364 yards of offense, including 263 yards rushing, while allowing just 146 total yards and 38 yards on the ground. The Raiders also forced three turnovers and lost none themselves.The attendance of 53,330 was a new record for the AFL title game, passing the 42,080 of the previous year at Buffalo.

The 1969 AFL Championship Game was the tenth and final championship game of the American Football League, and the league's final game prior to its merger with the National Football League on February 1, 1970. The game was held on January 4, 1970 at the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum between the Western Division champion Oakland Raiders (12–1–1) and the division's second-place team, the Kansas City Chiefs (11–3), who had won divisional playoff games to advance to the championship. Oakland had won the two regular season games between the two teams, were favored by 4 to 5½ points, and had taken seven of the last eight meetings.The Chiefs won 17–7 on the strength of seventeen unanswered points in the last three quarters and represented the AFL in Super Bowl IV the following week. This was the 616th and final AFL game.

Oakland Arena is an indoor arena located in Oakland, California, United States. From its opening in 1966 until 1996, it was known as the Oakland–Alameda County Coliseum Arena. After a major renovation completed in 1997, the arena was renamed The Arena in Oakland until 2005 and Oracle Arena from 2006 to 2019. It is often referred to as the Oakland Coliseum Arena as it is part of the Oakland–Alameda County Coliseum Complex with the adjacent RingCentral Coliseum. The station complex of Amtrak's Oakland Coliseum station and Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART)'s Coliseum station is located in the East Oakland area of Oakland, California, United States. The two stations, located about 600 feet (180 m) apart, are connected to each other and to the Oakland Coliseum/Oakland Arena sports complex with an accessible pedestrian bridge. The main BART station opened in 1972, serving the then-new Oakland Coliseum and surrounding East Oakland neighborhood. The Amtrak platform was added in 2005, providing a connection between BART and Amtrak's Capitol Corridor service. In 2014, the complex became the terminus of the Coliseum–Oakland International Airport line, thus connecting Oakland International Airport to rail transit. The station also serves as a transfer point for AC Transit buses and business park shuttles.

Coliseum College Prep Academy, commonly referred to as "CCPA", is a small public secondary school composed of a seven-year combination middle and high school (grades 6–12) located on the Havenscourt campus in East Oakland. It is part of the Oakland Unified School District, and gets its name from its close proximity to the Oakland Coliseum, and its colors from the Coliseum's baseball team, the Oakland A's.

Lockwood Gardens, is a neighborhood and housing project located in East Oakland, California, on 65th and International Boulevard. The neighborhood lies at an elevation of 25 feet (6 m) and is located less than a mile from the Oakland Coliseum. Lockwood is also known as the "6-5 Vill" (Village), and is one half of the "Vill." The other half of the "Vill" is the recently torn down 69th San Antonio Villas housing project, where infamous drug kingpin Felix Mitchell is from. The 69th San Antonio Villas have since been remodeled and is now a mixed-income community. Once an extremely unattractive housing project, the Oakland Housing Authority also remodeled Lockwood Gardens. Collectively with community support the once crime plagued community has seen a dramatic decrease in crime.

The Oikos University shooting occurred on April 2, 2012, when a gunman shot at people inside Oikos University, a Korean Christian college in Oakland, California, United States, killing 7 people. One L. Goh, a former student at the school, was taken into custody and identified as the suspect in the shooting. Along with the California State University, Fullerton massacre, this was the fourth-deadliest university shooting in United States history, after the Virginia Tech massacre, the University of Texas Clock Tower shooting, and the Umpqua Community College shooting, and the ninth-deadliest U.S. school massacre overall. It is the deadliest mass killing in the city's history.

San Leandro Creek (Spanish: Arroyo de San Leandro) is a 21.7-mile-long (34.9 km) year-round natural stream in the hills above Oakland in Alameda County and Contra Costa County of the East Bay in northern California.

Seminary is a neighborhood in the East Oakland section of Oakland, California. It is located just north of the Elmhurst neighborhood. Seminary's ZIP code is 94621. It is best known for its close proximity to Mills College. Seminary is named after Mills College. The main street running through the neighborhood, today's Seminary Avenue, was the main route from the bayshore to the college, which was known at the time as "The Young Ladies' Seminary." More recent proposed names for the area include Heartlands, Baja Maxwell Park, and Lower Millsmont. These proposed changes have been criticized as part of gentrification. The area, especially along Seminary Avenue, is considered to be in the "killing zone" or "kill zone" due to violence.Rapper Philthy Rich was born and raised in this neighborhood.
