Peterborough, New Hampshire

Nubanusit Brook is a 14.3-mile-long (23.0 km) stream in southern New Hampshire in the United States. The brook begins at the outlet of Nubanusit Lake in Nelson. It is a tributary of the Contoocook River, part of the Merrimack River watershed. The brook flows south into Harrisville, interrupted by Harrisville Pond and Skatutakee Lake, then east to the MacDowell Reservoir (constructed for flood control) in Peterborough. The brook turns south, passes the village of West Peterborough, and reaches the Contoocook River after passing through Peterborough village. Nubanusit Brook was important to the establishment and development of Harrisville and Peterborough because many dams were built along it to provide water power to mills. These included substantial textile mills in Harrisville, West Peterborough, and Peterborough, as well as smaller mills along the brook's course.

Peterborough is a census-designated place (CDP) and the main village in the town of Peterborough, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, United States. The population of the CDP was 3,090 at the 2020 census, out of 6,418 in the entire town.

The Peterborough Town House is the town hall serving Peterborough, New Hampshire. Located at Grove and Main Streets in downtown, the 1918 building is a significant local example of Colonial Revival architecture, and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1996.

The Peterborough Unitarian Church, also once known as the First Church in Peterborough, is a historic American church at Main and Summer streets in Peterborough, New Hampshire. Built in 1825-26 for a congregation founded in 1752, it is one of the state's finest examples of a Federal period church, drawing inspiration from the publications of Asher Benjamin. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.

The Peterborough Main Post Office is located at 23 Grove Street in Peterborough, New Hampshire. Built in 1936, it is a well-preserved example of Georgian Revival architecture. It is further distinctive because it is virtually unaltered since its construction, and its interior features a WPA mural by Marguerite Zorach. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.

All Saints Church is an historic Episcopal church located at 51 Concord Street in Peterborough, New Hampshire, in the United States. Completed in 1914, it is a completely realized example of an English country church as interpreted by the architect Ralph Adams Cram. On December 1, 1980, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places.

MacDowell is an artist's residency program in Peterborough, New Hampshire, United States, founded in 1907 by composer Edward MacDowell and his wife, pianist and philanthropist Marian MacDowell. Prior to July 2020, it was known as the MacDowell Colony (or simply "the Colony") but the Board of Directors shortened the name to remove "terminology with oppressive overtones".After Edward MacDowell died in 1908, Marian MacDowell established the artists' residency program through a nonprofit association in honor of her husband, raising funds to transform her farm into a quiet retreat for creative artists to work. She led the organization for almost 25 years. Over the years, an estimated 8,300 artists have been supported in residence with nearly 15,000 fellowships, including the winners of at least 86 Pulitzer Prizes, 31 National Book Awards, 30 Tony Awards, 32 MacArthur Fellowships, 15 Grammys, 8 Oscars, 828 Guggenheim Fellowships, and 107 Rome Prizes. The artists' residency program has accepted visual and interdisciplinary artists, architects, filmmakers, composers, playwrights, poets, and writers, both well-known and unknown. Since January 2020, Nell Painter has served as chair of MacDowell, the first woman to hold the position.

West Peterborough is an unincorporated community in the town of Peterborough in Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, United States. It is located along Nubanusit Brook in the western part of the town. Union Street leads 2 miles (3 km) east to the Peterborough town center and 0.6 miles (1.0 km) south to New Hampshire Route 101, a highway connecting Keene to the west with Milford to the east. West Peterborough has a separate ZIP code (03468) from the rest of Peterborough. The community's population, however, is included in the Peterborough census-designated place, comprising the central settled area of the town.

ConVal Regional High School (short for Contoocook Valley Regional High School) is a high school in Peterborough, New Hampshire, that serves nine surrounding towns: Antrim, Bennington, Dublin, Francestown, Greenfield, Hancock, Peterborough, Sharon and Temple. The principal is Heather McKillop. ConVal has approximately 720 students and has had several notable sports and academic teams in the past. ConVal's mascot is the cougar. The school colors are blue and gold.

The Gridley River is a 6.3-mile-long (10.1 km) river in southern New Hampshire in the United States. It is a tributary of the Contoocook River, part of the Merrimack River watershed. Most of the river's length is within the town of Sharon. The Gridley River begins in the northwestern corner of New Ipswich, New Hampshire, on the western slopes of Kidder Mountain in the Wapack Range. The small stream flows west into Tophet Swamp, where it picks up a tributary from the northeast. The river soon enters the town of Sharon and heads north through wetlands and intervening steep patches, reaching the Contoocook River just within the southwestern corner of Peterborough.

The Brackett House is a historic house on High Ridge Road, a private road off Valley Road in Dublin, New Hampshire. Built in 1915 for a prominent academic sociologist and his philanthropist wife, it is an architecturally eclectic Colonial Revival summer house. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.

The Ivory Perry Homestead is a historic house at the corner of Valley and Dooe roads in Dublin, New Hampshire. Built about 1767 and enlarged about 1820, it retains many original features from its period of construction. It was built by Ivory Perry, one of Dublin's first white settlers. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.
