Castle of Alenquer

Alenquer (Santo Estêvão e Triana) is a civil parish in the municipality of Alenquer, Portugal. It was formed in 2013 by the merger of the former parishes Santo Estêvão (Alenquer) and Triana (Alenquer). The population in 2011 was 10,821, in an area of 50.08 km².

Alenquer is a Portuguese wine region centered on the town of Alenquer in the Lisboa wine region. The region is designated as Denominação de Origem Controlada (DOC) after it was promoted from its former Indicação de Proveniencia Regulamentada (IPR) status. Located in a valley in the district of Lisboa, wine grapes are able to ripen easily and produce full bodied red wines that have a spicy, peppery aroma. The white wines tend to be dry with a creamy mouthfeel.

Alenquer (Portuguese pronunciation: [ɐlẽˈkɛɾ] ), officially the Town of Alenquer (Portuguese: Vila de Alenquer), is a Portuguese municipality in the Lisbon District and in the Oeste region. The population in 2011 was 43,267, in an area of 304.22 square kilometres (117.46 mi2). The present Mayor is Pedro Miguel Ferreira Folgado.

Santo Estêvão (Portuguese pronunciation: [ˈsɐ̃tu ɨʃˈtevɐ̃w]) is a former civil parish, located in the municipality of Alenquer, in western Portugal. In 2013, the parish merged into the new parish Alenquer (Santo Estêvão e Triana). It covers 16.09 km² in area, with 5338 inhabitants as of 2001. It was extinguished (aggregated) in 2013 as part of a national administrative reform, having been added to the parish of Triana to form a new parish called União das Freguesias de Alenquer (Santo Estêvão e Triana), of which it was the seat.

Meca (Portuguese pronunciation: [ˈmɛkɐ]) is a parish of the municipality of Alenquer, in western Portugal. The population in 2011 was 1,719, in an area of 14.12 km2.

Santo Estêvão (English: Saint Stephen) is a former parish (freguesia) in the municipality of Lisbon, Portugal. At the administrative reorganization of Lisbon on 8 December 2012 it became part of the parish Santa Maria Maior.

Triana (Portuguese pronunciation: [tɾiˈɐnɐ]) is a former civil parish, located in the municipality of Alenquer, in western Portugal. In 2013, the parish merged into the new parish Alenquer (Santo Estêvão e Triana). It covers 32.28 km2 (12.46 sq mi) in area, with 3,532 inhabitants as of 2001.

Carregado e Cadafais is a civil parish in the municipality of Alenquer, Portugal. It was formed in 2013 by the merger of the former parishes Carregado and Cadafais. The population in 2011 was 13,441, in an area of 24.52 km2.

The Military and Technical Training Center of the Air Force (Portuguese: Centro de Formação Militar e Técnica da Força Aérea) or CFMTFA is the unit responsible for the military, humanistic, technical and scientific training of the personnel of the Portuguese Air Force. It is located in Ota (Alenquer Municipality), occupying the facilities of the former Ota Air Base (officially, the Air Base No 2). Around 90% of the personnel of the Portuguese Air Force is trained at Ota.

Ota Airport was the planned site for the new Lisbon airport located in Ota, 50 km (27 nmi; 31 mi) north of Lisbon, the capital of Portugal, from the late 1990s until January 2008 when the project was aborted.

Carregado (Portuguese pronunciation: [kɐʁɨˈɣaðu]) is a former civil parish, located in the municipality of Alenquer, in western Portugal. In 2013, the parish merged into the new parish Carregado e Cadafais. It has a population of 9,066 inhabitants and a total area of 15.52 km2. The town is a north-east exurb of Lisbon. The railway between Carregado and Lisbon was the first line to be built in Portugal; it opened in 1856.
