Institute Farm

Furr Farm is a historic home and farm located at Aldie, Loudoun County, Virginia. The house is a two-story, five bay, frame structure with a side gable roof and exterior end chimneys. The property includes two contributing frame barns.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2012.

The Battle of Aldie took place on June 17, 1863, in Loudoun County, Virginia, as part of the Gettysburg Campaign of the American Civil War. Maj. Gen. J.E.B. Stuart's cavalry screened Gen. Robert E. Lee's Confederate infantry as it marched north in the Shenandoah Valley behind the sheltering Blue Ridge Mountains. The pursuing Union cavalry of Brig. Gen. Judson Kilpatrick's brigade, in the advance of Brig. Gen. David McMurtrie Gregg's division, encountered Col. Thomas T. Munford's troopers near the village of Aldie, resulting in four hours of stubborn fighting. Both sides made mounted assaults by regiments and squadrons. Kilpatrick was reinforced in the afternoon, and Munford finally withdrew toward Middleburg.

Dover is an unincorporated community in Loudoun County, Virginia, United States. Dover is located east of Middleburg at the intersection of U.S. Route 50, Champe Ford Road (SR 629 south), and Cobb House Road (SR 629 north). The Little River begins following Route 50 at this point. Dover as a geographical entity is somewhat exaggerated, seeing as the bend in Route 50 it refers to consists of only few houses, but it has a long pedigree as a named area, appearing on state and national maps. Most likely, its status as a geographical entity stems from the fact that the Little River Turnpike (first toll road in America) and Aldie-Ashby's Gap Turnpike terminated approximately together here, 1.3 miles west of Aldie.

Aldie is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) located between Chantilly and Middleburg in Loudoun County, Virginia, United States. The historic village of Aldie is located on the John Mosby Highway (U.S. Route 50) in a gap between the Catoctin Mountains and Bull Run Mountains, through which the Little River flows. Aldie traditionally serves as the gateway to the Loudoun Valley and beyond. The Aldie CDP was first drawn prior to the 2020 census and comprises solely the historic village. As of 2014, the Aldie postal area (ZIP Code 20105), covering a much greater area than the CDP, had a population of 11,420 people, a 569% increase since 2000 making it one of the fastest-growing suburbs in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area and the second fastest growing ZIP code in Virginia. The Aldie ZIP Code 20105 has currently the highest median sales prices for houses sold in Loudoun County. As a result, the eastern part is suburbanized with numerous upscale communities recently built or under construction while most of the Aldie Hills adjacent to the village of Aldie have so far largely preserved their bucolic character with farms, wineries and custom homes. It was first listed as a CDP in the 2020 census with a population of 70.

The Little River Turnpike Bridge carries U.S. Route 50 (US 50) across the Little River near Aldie in Loudoun County, Virginia. The two-arch masonry bridge was built in 1826 by the Little River Turnpike Company, which built the roadway that is now US 50. The costs of the bridge were apparently shared between that company and the Ashley's Gap Turnpike Company. It is one of a small number of masonry arch bridges still carrying a major through road in the state. It is about 108 feet (33 m) long and 23 feet (7.0 m) wide.The bridge has received only modest visible modifications since its construction. Concrete caps have been installed on upper surface elements, and the arch underside has also been protected with shotcrete. The upstream central pier has had a concrete fender added to protect it from debris and scouring. The downstream parapet wall was damaged by a truck in 1998 and reconstructed, and in 2004 reinforcing metal rods were injected into the rubble of the bridge to help distribute the active load. As of 2014, the bridge has no weight limit.The bridge was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2014.

Historic Rutledge Farm[1] is a Grand Prix and hunter/jumper facility, in Middleburg, Virginia, owned by Rutledge Farm, LLC (Aleco Bravo-Greenberg and Mrs. Hermen Greenberg). Built in 1740, it was most recently owned by Aleco's late step-father, Mr. Hermen Greenberg, who had built it into a world-class Thoroughbred breeding operation.

Oak Hill is a mansion and plantation located in Aldie, Virginia that was for 22 years a home of Founding Father James Monroe, the fifth U.S. President. It is located approximately 9 miles (14 km) south of Leesburg on U.S. Route 15, in an unincorporated area of Loudoun County, Virginia. Its entrance is 10,300 feet (3,100 m) north of Gilberts Corner, the intersection of 15 with U.S. Route 50. It is a National Historic Landmark, but privately owned and not open to the public.

Stoke is a historic farm property at 23587 Stoke Farm Lane in rural Loudoun County, Virginia, near the hamlet of Aldie. Its main house, set one mile down the entrance drive, is an 1840 Greek Revival farmhouse that underwent a major transformation in 1907 in the Renaissance Revival style. The property includes an early 20th-century swimming pool, tennis court, and landscaped garden with wall fountain, in addition to a complex of farm outbuildings, many dating to the 1920s. The gardens were developed by noted horticulturalist Eleanor Truax Harris.The property was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2015.

The Oakham Farm is a historic farm at 23226 Oakham Farm Lane, near Middleburg in Loudoun County, Virginia. The farm includes 100 acres (40 ha) of land north of United States Route 50, with its building complex anchored by a farmhouse built in 1847 and repeatedly altered. The main portion of the farmhouse is a 1920s three-story Classical Revival block, which has the original 1847 two-story Greek Revival house attached as an ell to one side, along with another c. 1840 structure that may have functioned as a separate kitchen. The property was first developed by the Peyton family, with its present buildings dating to the ownership of the Rogers family. During the American Civil War, Oakham was where the irregular Confederate Army unit known as Mosby's Rangers was organized.The farm was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2016.

Fair Oaks is a historic farmstead at 23718 New Mountain Rd. in Loudoun County, Virginia, near the village of Aldie. The 2+1⁄2-story wood-frame Italianate style house was built in 1881 by Alexander Moore, whose family operated the Aldie Mill for many years. The most prominent exterior decorative feature is the front porch, which features a delicately scroll-sawn balustrade and decorative brackets. Most of its interior woodwork has been preserved. The farmstead includes three other buildings dating to the same period, as well as the 1844 Moore family cemetery.The property was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2014.

Gilberts Corner is an unincorporated area at the intersection of U.S. Route 50 and U.S. Route 15 in Loudoun County, Virginia, located east of the historic village of Aldie. There are no residences at this intersection, but its name is attributed to the surrounding area. Gilberts Corner is named after the William Gilbert family, who ran the gas station/restaurant that sits at the northeast quadrant of the crossroads. It gained prominence in the 1920s when the Carolina Road (now Watson Road) was a toll road and U.S. Route 15 was extended south from Leesburg to U.S. Route 50. Due to increased traffic from toll evaders, U.S. Route 15 eventually was extended even farther south. The gas station/restaurant closed in the 1980s and is currently in the process of being renovated. Due to heavy traffic in the area, many commuters avoided the intersection altogether by going through Lenah and taking U.S. Route 15 south.

Oatlands Historic House and Gardens (formerly Oatlands Plantation) is an estate located in Leesburg, Virginia. Oatlands is operated by the National Trust for Historic Preservation and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as a National Historic Landmark. The Oatlands property is composed of the main mansion and 415 acres (168.0 ha) of farmland and gardens. The house is judged one of the finest Federal period country estate houses in the nation.On the property, in addition to the Mansion, are a number of outbuildings, including the Carriage House, Bachelor's Cottage, several barns and farm buildings, and a greenhouse, built in 1810, said to be the oldest standing greenhouse in the South.
