Sihlwald railway station

The Zürcher Museums-Bahn (ZMB) is a heritage railway association based in the Swiss city of Zurich. It operates occasional services over the Sihltal line of the Sihltal Zürich Uetliberg Bahn, and preserves rolling stock, much of which formerly belonged to that operator.On the last Sunday of every month from April to October, a steam service is operated from Zurich Wiedikon station to Sihlbrugg station. The ZMB preserves a selection of former Sihltal line rolling stock, including two early steam locomotives, and a railcar and a locomotive built for the original electrification.

Sihl Valley (German: Sihltal) is a river valley and belongs to the Zimmerberg-Sihltal region located in the district of Horgen in the canton of Zurich, Switzerland. Commonly Sihltal is used as the name of the Lower Sihl Valley, i.e. the area in the southwest of the city of Zürich.

Zimmerberg (el. 769 metres (2,523 ft)) is a mountain and a region located in the district of Horgen in the canton of Zurich, Switzerland. Its name bases on the Old High German word zimbar in the meaning of lumber.

Zürich Wilderness Park (German: Wildnispark Zürich) is a wilderness park near the city of Zürich in Switzerland. It includes the Sihlwald forest, the largest mixed deciduous and coniferous forest in the Swiss Mittelland, and the Langenberg Wildlife Park, the oldest Swiss wildlife park. Both sites are situated in the Sihl Valley to the south of Zürich, but are separated from each other by the town of Langnau am Albis.

The Sihlwald is a forest and nature reserve in the Sihl Valley of the Swiss canton of Zürich. It is a rare example of a large-scale and original forest, situated on the eastern slopes of the Albis hills to the west side of the Sihl river. Although the forest is owned by the city of Zürich, it is situated outside the city boundary, within the municipality of Horgen and several adjoining municipalities. The Sihlwald now forms part of the Zürich Wilderness Park.The city of Zürich received the Sihl forest, or Sihlwald, as a gift in 1309 from the Hapsburgers and again in 1524 through the dissolution of the Fraumünster convent. Over the following centuries, the forest provided Zürich with timber and firewood. From 1876 on, there was even a forest railway which facilitated the work in the forest. However, the trees have not been felled since the 1990s; this is due to the actions of forest director Andreas Speich, in order to preserve the forest's unique composition. On August 28, 2009, the Federal Office for the Environment declared the Sihl forest a "regional nature park of national importance". The protection of Sihl forest was established through a forest reserve agreement in 2007 and a cantonal Protection Ordinance in 2008. In 2009, the management of the Sihlwald was combined with that of the nearby Langenberg Wildlife Park, to form the Zürich Wilderness Park.The forest can be reached via the Sihlwald railway station, served by service S4 of the Zurich S-Bahn.

Rüschlikon is a municipality in the district of Horgen in the canton of Zürich in Switzerland. It is located on the west shore of Lake Zürich.

Thalwil is a municipality and town in the district of Horgen in the canton of Zürich in Switzerland. In addition to the town of Thalwil, the municipality includes the village of Gattikon.

Oberrieden Dorf railway station (German: Bahnhof Oberrieden Dorf is a railway station in Switzerland, situated on the banks of Lake Zürich in the town of Oberrieden. The station is located on the Thalwil–Arth-Goldau railway is served by the S24 line of the Zürich S-Bahn.Oberreiden Dorf station should not be confused with the nearby, but lower level, Oberrieden railway station, which is on the Lake Zürich left bank railway line. The two stations are approximately 400 metres (1,300 ft) apart on foot.

Langnau-Gattikon is a railway station in the Sihl Valley, and the municipality of Langnau am Albis, in the Swiss Canton of Zürich. Gattikon is an adjacent settlement, part of the municipality of Thalwil. The station is on the Sihltal line, which is operated by the Sihltal Zürich Uetliberg Bahn (SZU).The station is served by the following passenger trains:

The Bürglen (915 m) is the highest mountain of the Albis, a wooded range stretching west of Lake Zurich in the Swiss canton of Zurich. It is located between Hausen am Albis and the valley of the Sihl. The mountain is entirely traversed by a trail running along the crest. South of the Bürglen is the slightly lower summit of the Albishorn (909 m), where there is a panoramic restaurant.

Oberrieden railway station is a railway station in Switzerland, situated on the banks of Lake Zurich in the town of Oberrieden. The station is located on the Lake Zurich left bank railway line and is served by line S8 of the Zurich S-Bahn.The station has two side platforms, serving the two tracks passing through the station. The principal station building is to the west of the railway, whilst on the opposite side of the tracks is the goods shed, dating from 1874 and a class B regional property in the Swiss Inventory of Cultural Property of National and Regional Significance.Oberrieden station should not be confused with the nearby, but higher level, Oberrieden Dorf railway station, which is on the Thalwil–Arth-Goldau railway. Schnabelburg Castle (German: Schnabelburg) was a small castle erected in 1150 by the lords of Eschenbach (Switzerland, near Lucerne) on the Albis chain South-west of Zurich, Switzerland, overlooking the nearby Schnabellücken pass. In 1309 the Schnabelburg was destroyed by the Habsburgs, in revenge for the participation of Walter von Eschenbach in the murder of Albert I of Germany. All that is left today is low ruins, reachable in about 30 minutes on foot from the Albis Pass.
