Prien (river)

Rimsting station is a former railway station in the Upper Bavarian district of Rimsting on the Rosenheim–Salzburg railway in southern Germany. The first halt was installed in 1881 for the Bavarian King Ludwig II, who wanted to visit the construction site for his next palace, Schloss Herrenchiemsee. The present-day station building was erected in 1911. In 1981 the station was closed to passenger services; a siding is still in use for the delivery of liquid gas. Since 2006 a cultural meeting place has been housed in the station building.

Prien am Chiemsee station is the largest station of the Bavarian market town of Prien am Chiemsee. The station was opened in 1860 and is classified by Deutsche Bahn as a category 4 station. It has four platform tracks, one of which is a bay platform. It is served by about 85 Deutsche Bahn trains each day. The station is a separation station and is located on the Rosenheim–Salzburg, Chiemgau Railway (Chiemgaubahn) and the Chiemsee Railway (Chiemseebahn). Prien am Chiemsee also contains the terminus of the Chiemsee Railway to Prien-Stock, which is called the Prien (Stock) station.

The town is a certified air and Kneipp spa on the western shore of the lake of Chiemsee, 16 km (9.3 mi) east of Rosenheim. The name of Prien is derived from the Celtic denomination of the river Prien (Brigenna, 'coming from the mountains').

Herreninsel (German pronunciation: [ˈhɛʁənˌʔɪnzl̩] (listen); old name: Herrenwörth) is a 238 hectare island in Bavaria's largest lake, Chiemsee. It is the biggest of three main islands, Fraueninsel and "Krautinsel" joining it to form the municipality of Chiemsee. Herreninsel is famous for the Herrenchiemsee palace of Ludwig II of Bavaria. Never completed, it was only inhabited by the king for nine or ten nights before he mysteriously died of drowning at age 40. The island is inhabited by about 30 people, Frauenchiemsee some 300. It is also the site of a previous royal home, the Old Palace Herrenchiemsee, a former Augustinian monastery (Monastery Herrenchiemsee).

Breitbrunn am Chiemsee is a municipality in the district of Rosenheim in Bavaria in Germany.

Herrenchiemsee is a complex of royal buildings on Herreninsel, the largest island in the Chiemsee lake, in southern Bavaria, Germany. Together with the neighbouring isle of Frauenchiemsee and the uninhabited Krautinsel, it forms the municipality of Chiemsee, located about 60 kilometres (37 mi) southeast of Munich. The island, formerly the site of an Augustinian monastery, was purchased by King Ludwig II of Bavaria in 1873. The king had the premises converted into a residence, known as the Old Palace (Altes Schloss). From 1878 onwards, he had the New Herrenchiemsee Palace (Neues Schloss) erected, based on the model of Versailles. It was the largest, but also the last of his building projects, and remained incomplete. Today maintained by the Bavarian Administration of State-Owned Palaces, Gardens and Lakes, Herrenchiemsee is accessible to the public and a major tourist attraction.

Krautinsel is an island located in Chiemsee lake. With an area of 3.5 hectares, it is the smallest of the three islands in the Chiemsee (apart from the tiny artificial island Schalch west of Frauenchiemsee, aka Fraueninsel). The island received its name because vegetables and herbs were grown there in the Middle Ages. Politically, it belongs to the municipality of Chiemsee in the Rosenheim district. Two nameless small islands 54 and 80 meters south of the herb island form its southern foothills. They are connected to one another by a gravel bank. They each have only a few square meters of space and only offer space for one tree or shrub. These foothills no longer belong to the municipality of Chiemsee like the herb island, but to the unincorporated area of Chiemsee in the district of Traunstein.

The municipal area comprises not the lake itself but the islands of Herrenchiemsee (Herreninsel) with its Palaces, Frauenchiemsee and the uninhabited Krautinsel. While the island of Herrenchiemsee with 2.38 km2 (0.92 sq mi) is by far the largest, most of Chiemsee's inhabitants live on 0.15 km2 (0.058 sq mi) Frauenchiemsee.

Vachendorf is a village in the municipal district of the market town of Prien am Chiemsee in Landkreis Rosenheim in the state of Bavaria in southern Germany. It has about 55 inhabitants and lies centrally between the larger villages of Prien am Chiemsee, Bernau am Chiemsee, Frasdorf and Aschau im Chiemgau. Because of its proximity to the Chiemsee, Wildenwart Castle and a nature protection area, it is a favourite destination with the area for walkers.
