The district covers most of the cities of Carrollton and Farmers Branch and parts of Addison, Coppell, Dallas, and Irving (including Valley Ranch and the Western part of Las Colinas). CFBISD has twenty-four elementary schools, six middle schools, five high schools, and three education centers. Recently, the school district began the process of Limited Open Enrollment, allowing students living outside the boundaries of the school district to apply to attend the district.In 2010 and 2011, the school district was rated "recognized" by the Texas Education Agency.

Farmers Branch, officially the City of Farmers Branch, is a city in Dallas County, Texas, United States. It is an inner-ring suburb of Dallas and is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex. Its population was 28,616 at the 2010 census.Known as a "City in a Park" for its 28 parks in only 12 square miles, Farmers Branch is a small community in close proximity to Dallas, and has a business community that accounts for 80% of the city's tax base, allowing residents to have one of the lower city tax rates in Dallas County, while having dedicated city services and public safety. The city received media attention due to 2006 anti-illegal immigration measures and a law making English the city's official language. These measures were struck down by courts and/or repealed. Farmers Branch station (formerly Farmers Branch Park & Ride) is a DART Light Rail station in Farmers Branch, Texas. It serves the Green Line. The station initially opened as a bus-only park & ride facility in the 1990s. Light rail platforms opened as part of the Green Line's expansion in December 2010.

Downtown Carrollton station is a DART Light Rail station in Carrollton, Texas. It serves the DART Green Line. This station will serve as an inaugural stop on the Silver Line.

The school opened in 1975, and is named after the former CFBISD superintendent Newman Smith. Smith High School serves sections of Carrollton and Dallas. In 2015, the school was rated "Met Standard" by the Texas Education Agency.

Le Cordon Bleu Institute of Culinary Arts – Dallas was founded in 2007 and is affiliated with the Le Cordon Bleu Schools in North America. Located in Dallas, Texas, LCB Dallas is a branch of Texas Culinary Academy which is owned by Career Education Corporation under a licensing agreement with Le Cordon Bleu in Paris. All US Le Cordon Bleu College locations are scheduled to close in 2017.

Vitruvian Park is a multi-family, retail and commercial development in Addison, Texas. The development is just west of the Dallas North Tollway, approximately one mile north of I-635/LBJ Freeway between Midway Road and Marsh Lane in Addison's southwest quadrant. Adjacent to the community are Brookhaven Country Club, Brookhaven College, Greenhill School, Parish Episcopal School, and a shopping center. In addition to being the largest development ever undertaken by major real estate developer UDR, Inc., the 117-acre (0.47 km2) development is also Addison's first major sustainable green initiative. The park draws its design from Roman architect Vitruvius' only surviving work, De Architectura. Savoye, the first phase was designed to feature 744 multifamily housing units, 26,000 square feet (2,400 m2) of retail and a 12-acre (49,000 m2) public park including a spring-fed creek, bridges and trails.In December 2012, the City of Addison debuted the Vitruvian Lights: Magical Nights of Lights, in which the park was decorated with 1.2 million light bulbs in nine different colors on more than 500 trees. It subsequently became an annual event. The park hosted its second "Vitruvian Lights" in 2013.

Early College High School (ECHS) is an early college senior high school on the grounds of Brookhaven College, in Farmers Branch, Texas, in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. As of 2019 Timothy A. Isaly is the principal.ECHS, the fifth CFBISD high school, opened in 2006. It takes in about 75-100 9th grade students on an annual basis.In 2014 it was named a National Blue Ribbon School.
