Boothby Pagnell

Bitchfield and Bassingthorpe is a civil parish which includes Boothby Pagnell and Burton Coggles in the South Kesteven district of Lincolnshire, England. According to the 2001 census it had a population of 154 across 59 homes. By the 2011 census there were 157 households, made of 366 people.The civil parish includes the villages of Bitchfield and Bassingthorpe, and the hamlet of Westby. There are no major roads through the parish, though the London-Edinburgh railway line passes through the extreme western edge. The parish is crossed by the B1176 Corby Glen to Grantham road. Several small streams rise in the western half of the parish, and flow eastwards into the West Glen River which flows through the parish from North to South. Bassingthorpe manor is probably the highest spot in the parish, with a spot height of 106m. The terrain slopes down eastward to the shallow valley of the glen, which lies between two 70m contours. Toward the eastern boundary the land rises again to about 90m.Busses on route 4 from Grantham to Stamford pass through the parish.Local democracy takes the form of a parish meeting.

Bitchfield is a village in the civil parish of Bitchfield and Bassingthorpe, in the South Kesteven district of Lincolnshire, England. It consists of two groups of buildings connected by Dark Lane, known as Bitchfield and Lower Bitchfield, collectively called Bitchfield. The village is situated approximately 6 miles (10 km) south-east from Grantham, and on the B1176 road, running east and parallel to the A1. In 1921 the parish had a population of 95. On 1 April 1931 the parish was abolished and merged with Bassingthorpe to form "Bitchfield and Bassingthorpe".Bitchfield is mentioned in the Domesday Book as "Billesfelt". Both Bitchfield and Lower Bitchfield are sometimes described as "shrunken" rather than deserted medieval villages. There are signs that both were more extensive at one time. Stoke Bank is an inclined stretch of the East Coast Main Line (ECML) between Peterborough and Grantham. It is named after the village of Stoke Rochford, close to Stoke Summit, which at 345 feet (105 m) above sea level is the highest point of the ECML between London King's Cross and Berwick-upon-Tweed. It is not however, the highest point of the entire ECML, which is Grantshouse Summit between Berwick and Edinburgh at 400 feet (120 m).The climb up the bank begins roughly 15 miles (24 km) north of Peterborough, which is close to sea level, and ascends to Stoke Summit over a distance of approximately 10 miles (16 km) with gradients of up to 1 in 178. Shortly after the summit, the line runs through the 880 yards (800 m) Stoke Tunnel. It then descends for around 5 miles at 1 in 200 before reaching Grantham station, and then continues on a more gradual descent for around 15 miles, until reaching Newark North Gate, which is also near sea level.

Grantham was a rural district in Lincolnshire, Parts of Kesteven from 1894 to 1931. It was created by the Local Government Act 1894 based on the Grantham rural sanitary district, the Leicestershire part of which went to form the Belvoir Rural District. In 1931, under a County Review Order, it was abolished, with nearly all of its area going to the West Kesteven Rural District, except the parish of Haceby, which became part of the East Kesteven Rural District.

Little Humby or Humby is a hamlet in the South Kesteven district of Lincolnshire, England. It lies in the civil parish of Ropsley and Humby, 5 miles (8.0 km) east from Grantham, 1 mile (1.6 km) south-east from Ropsley and 1.5 miles (2.4 km) south from the A52 road. Great Humby, a smaller hamlet, is 720 yards (658 m) to the south. Humby has a ford that is prone to flooding, and a red telephone box.
