Lang-Hess House

East Wheeling Historic District is a national historic district located at Wheeling, Ohio County, West Virginia. The district encompasses 300 contributing buildings and one contributing site, including the Monroe Street East Historic District. The district is primarily residential, developed in the late-19th and early-20th century. A number of popular architectural styles are represented including Greek Revival and Gothic Revival. Notable non-residential buildings include St. Joseph Cathedral (1926), former Hazel Atlas Company building (now West Virginia Northern Community College), Scottish Rite Temple designed by noted Wheeling architect Frederick F. Faris (1870-1927), Elks Building, and YMCA (1906), also designed by Faris. The contributing site is Elk Playground. Also located in the district are the separately listed L. S. Good House, Charles W. Russell House, and Cathedral Parish School.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1999.

The Wheeling, WV-OH Metropolitan Statistical Area, as defined by the United States Census Bureau, is an area consisting of two counties in the Northern Panhandle of West Virginia and one in eastern Ohio, anchored by the city of Wheeling. As of the 2010 census, the MSA had a population of 147,950. This represents a decline of 3.4% from the 2000 census population of 153,172.Greater Wheeling is generally considered part of the Pittsburgh Tri-State area, as the area is heavily influenced by Pittsburgh media and transportation (notably Pittsburgh International Airport), as well as some Ohio media and sports influence.

The L. S. Good House or Good Mansion is a historic home located in Wheeling, Ohio County, West Virginia. It was built in 1904 and was placed in the National Register singularly on November 28, 1988, and as part of the East Wheeling Historic District on November 22, 1999.

The Reymann Brewing Company of Wheeling, West Virginia was the state's largest and most successful pre-Prohibition brewery. It began as the P.P. Beck Brewery in 1847. Beck formed a partnership with A. Reymann which continued until 1863 when Reymann gained full ownership. A small sales book lists the Reymann depots in several cities in Ohio, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania, including Charleston, Huntington, Canton, Marietta, Pittsburgh, and Erie. In the 1890s, one cold storage room and saloon operated by Reymann Brewing was on land rented to the company by President William McKinley and his wife. The brewery produced as much as 28,000 barrels of beer in the early teens. The Reymann company's bottling department employees worked with engineers from the Studebaker Corporation to design a beer truck. The truck proved so successful that it was featured in an early edition of the Western Brewer [an industry publication].

Central Catholic High School is a parochial, Roman Catholic high school in Wheeling, West Virginia. It is part of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston. Central Catholic High School has been educating young men and women since 1865. The school is a part of the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston campus, which includes the Cathedral of St. Joseph, the diocesan offices, and the chancery. At the end of the 2016–2017 school year, Bishop Donahue Memorial High School closed and merged into Central Catholic.

Cathedral Parish School, also known as Wheeling Catholic Elementary and Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston Chancery, was a historic elementary school building located at Wheeling, Ohio County, West Virginia. It was built in 1896–1897, to service the St. Joseph Cathedral parish. A gymnasium addition was built in 1939. It is a three-story brick building, with an elevated first floor. It sits on a sandstone base. It features a center square tower with a pyramidal roof and Late Gothic Revival details.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1997. It is located in the East Wheeling Historic District.

The Cathedral of Saint Joseph of Wheeling or Saint Joseph's Cathedral is the seat of the bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston. In addition to being the seat of the bishop, the cathedral is home to the oldest congregation in the city of Wheeling, West Virginia. The cathedral is a contributing property to the East Wheeling Historic District on the National Register of Historic Places.The current pastor of the cathedral is the bishop of the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston, the Most Reverend Mark E. Brennan. The current priest in residence is Father Justin Golna.

West Virginia Northern Community College (WVNCC) is a public community college with its main campus in downtown Wheeling, West Virginia. Established in 1972, WVNCC serves all six counties in West Virginia's Northern Panhandle. It is part of the West Virginia Community and Technical College System. The main campus is housed in the former Baltimore & Ohio Railroad Terminal at Wheeling. It also has branch campuses in Weirton, West Virginia and in New Martinsville, West Virginia.

West Virginia Independence Hall is a historic government building at 1528 Market Street in downtown Wheeling, West Virginia, United States. It was built in 1860 under the supervision of architect Ammi B. Young for the federal government as a custom house, post office and courthouse. It is architecturally significant for its innovative uses of wrought iron as a framing material, and is historically significant for its role in the American Civil War. It housed the Wheeling Convention (1861), as well as the West Virginia Constitutional Convention (1863), which resulted in the separation of Unionist West Virginia from Confederate Virginia. This made it the only state to secede from a Confederate state during the war. The building was originally built as the custom house for the Western District of Virginia, and later became the center of government for the Restored Government of Virginia from 1861 to 1863, with Francis H. Pierpont serving as its governor. It was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1988. The building is now a state-run museum, housing exhibits on West Virginia history.

Wheeling station is a U.S. historic train station located at Wheeling, Ohio County, West Virginia. It was built in 1907–1908, and is a four-story, rectangular brick and limestone building in the Beaux-Arts-style. It measures 250 feet long by 89 feet, 6 inches, deep. It features mansard roofs, built of concrete and covered with Spanish tile painted pink. Passenger service ceased in 1961. The building was remodeled in 1976 to house the West Virginia Northern Community College.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1996 as the Wheeling Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Passenger Station.

Charles W. Russell House is a historic home located at Wheeling, Ohio County, West Virginia. It was built in 1848, and is a 2+1⁄2-story, four-bay-wide, Greek Revival-style brick dwelling. It was constructed as an office and residence for attorney Charles W. Russell (1818-1867). It was part of the military headquarters established at Wheeling during the first winter of the American Civil War.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1993. It is located in the East Wheeling Historic District.

Monroe Street East Historic District is a national historic district located at Wheeling, Ohio County, West Virginia. The district encompasses six contributing buildings. They are a Greek Revival style church built in 1837, a Roman-Tuscan style dwelling dated to 1852 and known as the Paxton-Reed House, and an eclectic 1881 dwelling. Also in the district is a Richardsonian Romanesque style apartment building (c. 1892) and a set of vernacular post-American Civil War townhouses.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. In 1999, the district was encompassed by the East Wheeling Historic District.
