Bobbing, Kent

Keycol is a village near Sittingbourne in Kent, England. At the 2011 Census the population of the village was recorded in the civil parish of Bobbing. This is on the old Roman road A2 between Key Street (the junction between Sittingbourne and the A249) and Newington. Keycol Hill was the site of Keycol Hill Hospital. It was erected at a cost of about £5,000. According to Kelly's Directory of Kent of 1903. In 1880 the hospital had a loan of £320 from the Local Government Board. Which was divided into two parts - an Isolation unit and a T.B. Sanatorium. It was administered separately by the Sittingbourne and Milton District Health Department (previously the Sittingbourne and Milton Joint Hospital Board) and the Kent County Health Department. In 1998, the management transferred to 'The Thames Gateway National Health Service Trust'. Soon afterwards it closed. Then in 2005, 36 buildings were built on the site.Also on Keycol Hill is the Sittingbourne Water Works. Built on Feb 15th, 1868. Away from the main road is Demelza Hospice for Children.

Westlands School is a coeducational secondary school and sixth form with academy status, located in Sittingbourne in the English county of Kent.Previously a foundation school administered by Kent County Council, Westlands School converted to academy status on 1 September 2010. Westlands School has specialist status in Mathematics, Computing & Science. The school is now part of the Swale Academies Trust which also includes Westlands Primary School, Regis Manor Primary School, Meopham School and The Sittingbourne School.Westlands School offers GCSEs and BTECs as programmes of study for pupils, while students in the sixth form have the option to study from a range of A-levels, City and Guilds courses and further BTECs. It is the largest school in Sittingbourne, with a total of 1,742 students. The school Is adapting new communities which include a separate year 11 group.

The A249 is a road in Kent, England, running from Maidstone to Sheerness on the Isle of Sheppey. It mainly functions as a link between the M2 and M20 motorways, and for goods vehicle traffic to the port at Sheerness. In 2006, an upgraded dual carriageway section opened between Iwade and Queenborough, including a new fixed crossing over the Swale. The existing lifting Kingsferry Bridge was retained as an alternative route. On 5 September 2013, more than 100 vehicles were involved in an accident on the crossing.

Chestnut Street is a settlement to the west of Sittingbourne in the Borough of Swale, Kent, England. It is located on the former A249 road alignment, between the junction with the A2 road near Key Street and Danaway. The A249, a dual carriageway since the 1990s, avoids Chestnut Street. Its postal address is Chestnut Street, Borden, Kent; that village is a mile (1.6 km) to the east. There are a number of Grade II listed buildings in the hamlet, including Hooks Hole, Old Houses, Dumbles, Tudor Rose Cottage, Oldstede, and Chestnut Street Farmhouse.

Heart's Delight is a settlement located to the south of Sittingbourne in Kent, England. Heart's Delight Road, leading to it, has the postal address of Tunstall. At the 2011 Census the population of the settlement was included in the civil parish of Borden. According to Edward Hasted, in 1798, Heart's Delight was a small hamlet in the parish of Borden. Wrens farm was an estate in 1664 (but called 'Rains Farm') and was owned by a squire from Tunstall.There are four Grade II listed houses in the village; 'Hearts Delight House', 'Filmer House', 'Sharp's House', and 'Wren's Farmhouse'. Watling Temple is the name given to the temple within a Roman town next to the modern A2 road in Newington, near Sittingbourne in Kent, England.The town was rediscovered in 2019 during an archaeological dig covering 18 acres that found iron furnaces and pottery kilns as part of a manufacturing site, a Roman temple, a seven metre wide Roman road and late Iron Age remains dating from 30BC.The Roman road Watling Street runs through the village of Newington, and the newly discovered road predates it and takes an alternative route.A reconstruction of the temple foundations was officially unveiled in September 2021 as the result of a collaboration between Newington History Group, SWAT Archaeology and Persimmon Homes South East. The reconstruction is the same size and orientation as the original and is located only 70 metres away from where it was uncovered. A footpath reflects the alignment of the seven metre wide Roman road to the temple. It is on permanent, free display in a landscaped area off Watling Drive, Newington, ME9 7FX. The excavation has been built on by Persimmon homes, with 124 homes in a development called "Watling Place".

Oad Street is a small hamlet in the English county of Kent.Oad Street forms part of the civil parish of Borden which, in turn, is part of Swale district. Oad Street is located close to Junction 5 of the M2 motorway where it crosses the A249 road.

Funton is a location in Kent, United Kingdom. It is a creek situated on the edge of the North Kent Marshes on the right bank of the River Medway about halfway between the towns Chatham and Sheerness.There is evidence of Celtic/Romano-British salt extraction here deduced from the excavated remains of an evaporating vessel.Brick making continues here using the local Brickearth clay. A small brick works produces the classic, yellow London stock bricks for which this area is well known. The brick works closed in 2010.

Newington is a village and civil parish in the borough of Swale in Kent, England. The parish is located beside the A2 road (originally a Roman road) between Rainham to the west and Sittingbourne to the east. The population of the parish in 2011 was 2,551.The village has its own railway station which is situated on the Chatham Main Line between Sittingbourne and Rainham.The parish church, dedicated to St Mary the Virgin, is a grade I listed building. It was built between 1163 and 1177 by Richard de Lucy, with additions being made in the 13th and 14th century. The church was to eventually become the property of Henry VIII who gave it to the Provost and Fellows of Eton College in 1531. The patron today is the Archbishop of Canterbury. There is a stone in the church car park known as the Devil's Stone, which is said to bear the Devil's footprint.Newington village sign was provided by Mrs. S Huxtable in 2007. It holds a memorial plate in memory of Mr. P Huxtable. (Husband of Mrs S. Huxtable) Newington holds the national collection of Witch Hazel which is kept at the Witch Hazel Nursery in Calloways Lane Newington Manor, now a conservation area, is to the south of the village. The Newington Pill Boxes: Newington has at least four World War I pill boxes (or bunkers) at various locations.
