Voerendaal (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈvuːrə(n)daːl] ; Limburgish: Voelender) is a municipality and a town in the southeastern Netherlands.

Ten Esschen (Limburgish: Genessche) is a Dutch hamlet located in the commune of Heerlen, in the province of Dutch Limburg. The village lies between the A76 and N281 motorways. It also borders the Sittard–Herzogenrath railway.

Weustenrade is a hamlet in the municipality of Voerendaal of the province Limburg, Netherlands. It is located near Hoensbroek, Voerendaal and Klimmen. The village was first mentioned in 1420 as Woestenroede, and means "desolate cultivated forest". It was home to 105 people in 1840.There are still several old seventeenth-century houses, among which the 'oliemolen' (oilmill).

The school was founded by the Bernardinuscollege as a dependence school for the Bernardinuscollege in Heerlen-west (Welten) Netherlands. The school expanded in the 1980s with the Clara Mavo (vocational education) and merged with Coriovallum College in 1990. In 1993 Sintermeertencollege moved to a new premises at Valkenburgerweg 219 in Heerlen, a modern 3 storey building. Zuyd University of Applied Sciences (Dutch: Zuyd Hogeschool) is a University of Applied Sciences with campuses in Heerlen, Sittard and Maastricht in the southeastern Netherlands. The main focus of Zuyd University is on Bachelor programmes, 52 in total[1], most of them in Dutch. There are currently 8 master programmes[2]. In the latest edition of the Keuzegids Hoger Onderwijs 2008 ('2008 Higher Education Guide'), Zuyd University takes first place of the 13 larger universities of applied sciences, with an average score of 6.85.

Hoensbroek (Limburgish: Gebrook) is a Dutch town in the municipality of Heerlen. It is situated in the southeast of Limburg, a province in the southeast of the Netherlands. Until 1982, Hoensbroek was a separate municipality. Hoensbroek is known for its medieval castle, Kasteel Hoensbroek, named after Knight Hoen, a member of the Hoen Family. It dates from around 1250. Hoensbroek is also known for the fair on Ascension Day (Hemelvaartsdag). The fair brings as many as 100,000 people to the town, every year. In medieval times, the town was known under the name of Gebrook, meaning as much as "Swampy Landscape", and belonged to the Family Hoen. Their family name eventually mingled with the original one, resulting in the name Hoensbroeck for the location and Van Hoensbroeck as the family name. The spoken dialect, Gerbrooker Plat, refers to the ancient name of Gebrook.

Welten is a village in Heerlen, still retaining its village like appearance. A couple of landmarks remain in Welten, including a church dating back to the 11th century though restored in the 19th century, and the Weltermolen (Weltermill), a watermill powered by the Geleenbeek. The Weltermolen dates back to at least the 14th century.

Ubachsberg (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈybɑɣzbɛr(ə)x]) is a village in the Dutch province of Limburg. It is located in the municipality of Voerendaal.The village was first mentioned in 1380 as "opten Berch", and means "hill of the Ubachs family". Ubachsberg developed in the Early Middle Ages on the road from Simpelveld to Sittard.The Catholic St Bernardus Church is a neoclassic cruciform church built in 1842.Restaurant De Leuf (2 Michelin stars) is located in the village.
