Amlwch Port

The Amlwch Lighthouse (Grid reference: SH 452937) is a lighthouse tower situated on the outer pier of Amlwch, at the northeast tip of Anglesey, Wales. The existing lighthouse, a square tower erected in 1853, is the fourth on this site. It has original fine, but battered, ashlar masonry to a height of 4.6 metres (15 ft); the present lantern was added on top at a later date.

East Mouse (Welsh: Ynys Amlwch) is an islet found off the north coast of Anglesey, Wales. It is found just a few hundred metres away from the town of Amlwch. For this reason the island is known in Welsh as Ynys Amlwch, Amlwch Island. The islet is tiny (a maximum 141 metres long by 61 metres wide) with a maximum area of only 1.5 acres (6,100 m2), and void of any significant flora and fauna. The islet is one of three similarly named islands off the north coast of Anglesey, the other two being West Mouse (Maen y Bugail) and Middle Mouse (Ynys Badrig). The island is the site of the wreck of the SS Dakota, which was built in 1874, striking the island and sinking on 9 May 1877. The 4,332-ton ship was broken into three pieces but all 218 souls on board were saved.

Amlwch (Welsh: [ˈamlʊχ]) is a port town and community in Wales. It is situated on the north coast of the Isle of Anglesey, on the A5025 which connects it to Holyhead and to Menai Bridge. As well as Amlwch town and Amlwch Port, other settlements within the community include Burwen, Bull Bay (Porthllechog) and Pentrefelin. The town has a beach in Llaneilian, and it has significant coastal cliffs. Tourism is an important element of the local economy. At one time it was a booming mining town that became the centre of a vast global trade in copper ore. The harbour inlet became a busy port and significant shipbuilding and ship repair centre, as well as an embarkation point with boats sailing to the Isle of Man and to Liverpool. The community covers an area of about 15 square kilometres.

St Eleth's Church, Amlwch is a parish church built in the Neo-classical style in 1800 in Amlwch, a town on the island of Anglesey in north Wales. It stands on the site of earlier buildings, with the first church here said to have been established by St Elaeth (or Eleth) in the 6th century. Increasing prosperity in the town through copper mining during the 18th century led to the construction of a new church to serve the growing population. The church is still used for services within the Church in Wales, and is one of four churches in the parish of Amlwch. It is a Grade II* listed building, a designation given to "particularly important buildings of more than special interest", because it is a "substantially Neo-classical church retaining much of its original architectural character".

The King's Head, Amlwch is a public house situated in Salem Street, one of the main streets in Amlwch, Anglesey, Wales. The pub name is one of many King's Heads found all over the United Kingdom. It is named after Henry VII of England, who was born in Wales (Pembroke Castle) in 1457. "The Kings", as it is popularly known, is the only original pub left standing from the town's copper industry at Parys Mountain in the eighteenth century. This is at a time when it was recorded that there was a pub ratio of one pub for every four people in the town when the population was near 10,000 at the time.

Amlwch railway station was the original terminus of the Anglesey Central Railway line from Gaerwen. A light railway extension was later added for freight purposes. All stations on the Amlwch line closed to passengers in 1964 as part of the Beeching Axe; freight works continued until 1993.

The Anglesey Central Railway (Welsh: Lein Amlwch, Amlwch Line) was a 17.5-mile (28.2 km) standard-gauge railway in Anglesey, Wales, connecting the port of Amlwch and the county town of Llangefni with the North Wales Coast Line at Gaerwen. Built as an independent railway, the railway opened in portions from 1864 to 1867. Due to financial troubles the railway was sold to the London and North Western Railway in 1876, which invested significantly in the infrastructure. Operation continued under various companies during the 20th century, but passenger services were withdrawn in 1964 as part of the Beeching Axe. Industrial freight services continued until 1993. The railway's tracks remain and local groups have demonstrated an interest in restoring services as a heritage railway. As of 2023, the middle 7 miles (11 km) from Llangefni station via Llangwyllog to Llannerch y Medd station have largely been cleared of vegetation, with a view to reopening. The sustainable transport charity Sustrans has proposed to use the route as a cycle path (rail trail). The Welsh Assembly Government, in partnership with Network Rail, commissioned a feasibility study into the reopening of the line, which started in early 2011. However, as of February 2020 nothing had come of the study.

Bull Bay (Welsh: Porth Llechog) is a village and bay on the northern coast of Anglesey, Wales, close to Amlwch. Its Welsh name, Porth Llechog, means "sheltered bay". The English name is derived from Pwll y Tarw ("the bull's pool"), which is located near the shore close to the bay. The village is located on the A5025. It is the most northerly village in Wales. Also, it contains Wales' most northerly golf course which was opened and funded by a local aristocrat in 1913 to a design by Herbert Fowler. The island of East Mouse lies within the bay, the coastline of which is rocky and contains many caves. Some of these rocks are over 570 million years old which make them amongst the oldest in Wales. The population as of the 2011 census was 287 with 61% having no form of Welsh identity. Bull Bay is the home of Trireme Ynys Mon Rowing Club, a sea rowing club affiliated with the Welsh Sea Rowing Association. It mainly races with three classes of boat: Pembrokeshire Longboat, Celtic Longboat and Euro, with a boathouse near the site of the former lifeboat station.

Our Lady Star of the Sea and St Winefride (Welsh: Mair, Seren Y Mor a Santes Wenfrewi) is a Roman Catholic church in Amlwch, a town on the island of Anglesey, north Wales. It was built in the 1930s to a design by an Italian architect, Giuseppe Rinvolucri, using reinforced concrete. The church is in the shape of an upturned boat, reflecting Amlwch's maritime heritage, and is dedicated to Our Lady, Star of the Sea (a title of St Mary) and St Winefride, a Welsh saint. The church is a Grade II* listed building, a designation given to "particularly important buildings of more than special interest", because it is a "remarkable inter-war church", built to "a highly unusual and experimental design". The Twentieth Century Society has called it "a rare and unique church", and it has also been called "one of Britain's most avant-garde churches".

Melin Adda is a windmill near Amlwch, Anglesey, (OS reference: SH 440921) which was built in the 1790s and closed down in 1912. The mill was turned into a house in the 1970s. Nearby stood another mill, which was water driven, a much older mill, dating back to 1352. In 1851 it is recorded that Owen Hughes the miller at the time was killed after being struck by the sail's boom.

Cerrig Mân is a village in Anglesey, in north-west Wales, in the community of Llaneilian and the electoral ward of Twrcelyn. It is located a mile north of Penysarn and a mile south of Amlwch.

Ysgol Syr Thomas Jones is a mixed bilingual community school for pupils between 11 and 18 years of age in the Pentrefelin area of Amlwch, Anglesey. The school serves the town and the rural catchment area.
