The Royal Basilica of Our Lady of Atocha or Real Basílica de Nuestra Señora de Atocha is a large church in central Madrid on Avenida de la Ciudad de Barcelona, 3.

Menéndez Pelayo is a station on Line 1 of the Madrid Metro. It is located in Zone A. It was opened on 8 May 1923.

The Fuente del Ángel Caído (Fountain of the Fallen Angel or Monument of the Fallen Angel) is a fountain located in the Buen Retiro Park in Madrid, Spain. The statue that crowns the monument is the masterpiece of Ricardo Bellver who realized it in plaster in 1877 while a 3rd year pensioner in Rome, inspired by verses from Paradise Lost of John Milton (Canto I). He submitted it to the 1877 edition of the Exposiciones Nacionales de Bellas Artes where it received the first prize. The state acquired the work and presented it to the 1878 Exposition Universelle. Since only works in marble and bronze were accepted, the statue was cast in bronze at this occasion and the plaster original destroyed. The statue returned to Spain in what was then the Museo Nacional de Pintura y Escultura (also known as the Museo de la Trinidad, now part of the Museo del Prado). The director of the museum, Benito Soriano Murillo, proposed its relocation in the open space so that the public could freely enjoy this peculiar and unusual creation. The statue was passed to the city hall that placed it on the spot of its present location which was formerly occupied by the Real Fábrica de Porcelanas de la China before its destruction during the French invasion in 1813, at the intersection of the paseo de Cuba, the paseo de Uruguay and the paseo del Duque de Fernán Nuñez in the Retiro park. The duque de Fernán Nuñez (probably Manuel Falcó y d´Adda y Valcárcel, the husband of the III Duquesa de Fernán Núñez) sponsored the monument. The architect Francisco Jareño was charged to design the pedestal, that is octagonal with figures of devils on each side gripping fishes, lizards and snakes, and placed at the center of a fountain of 10 meters diameter, itself surrounded by a parterre. The inauguration was made by the Queen consort of Spain Maria Christina of Austria in 1885. The monument is 7 meters high (the statue itself is 2.65 meters) and lies at the center of a roundabout named after the statue, that also gives its name to an entrance of the park. While the work, turned over by a student, initially received its share of criticisms, it was mainly highly received by the critics and is now an attraction of the Spanish capital. It is renowned for its dramatic appeal, the tension in the expression and its ambiguity in treating a polemical subject that caused turmoil regarding its possible interpretation as a satanic tribute. It has the reputation to be the only prominent sculpture dedicated to the devil. It is, however, correct that it happens to stand at 666 meters above sea level. There is a polyester resin replica of Bellver's work at the Museum of the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando in Madrid where details can be better appreciated.

The Spanish National Observatory (Spanish: Observatorio Astronómico Nacional de España, OAN) is an astronomical observatory with several facilities in the Madrid area. The Observatory has published a yearbook (the Anuario del Observatorio Astronómico de Madrid) since the 19th century.

The Royal Observatory of Madrid is a historic observatory situated on a small hill next to the Buen Retiro Park in Madrid, Spain. It was completed in 1790 and took over some of the work previously done by the naval observatory on the south coast. It is the seat of the Spanish National Astronomical Observatory and the Observatorio Geofísico Central, both administered by the National Geographic Institute (via its department of Astronomía, Geofísica y Aplicaciones Espaciales).

Calle de Méndez Álvaro is a street in Madrid, Spain, stretching between Plaza del Emperador Carlos V and Calle del Convenio. It lies mostly within the Arganzuela district, forming the boundary between the Atocha neighborhood to the east and the Palos de la Frontera, Delicias, and Legazpi neighborhoods to the west. It crosses, via an underpass, the old ring road railway line (currently used by the Cercanías Madrid commuter rail lines C-1, C-7, and C-10) and the M-30 ring road, briefly entering the Entrevías neighborhood of the Puente de Vallecas district. Finally, after another underpass beneath the railway lines to Valencia and Barcelona, as well as those providing access to the Abroñigal freight station, it ends at Calle del Convenio in the San Diego neighborhood. It is named in memory of the doctor, hygienist and former mayor of Madrid, Francisco Méndez Álvaro (1806–1883). It runs parallel to the Avenida de la Ciudad de Barcelona, from which it is separated by the railway tracks of the Atocha station, and becomes the gateway to Madrid for many travelers, since it houses the South Bus Station, the most important of the long-distance stations in the entire city. Its intersections include Calle del Comercio, Calle de Pedro Bosch, Avenida del Planetario and the M-30.

Galdós or the Monument to Galdós is a sculpture in Madrid, Spain. A work by Victorio Macho, it is dedicated to Benito Pérez Galdós. It lies on the southern part of El Retiro.

The Atocha station memorial is a memorial monument located at Atocha station in Madrid, Spain, that commemorates the 191 victims of the 11 March 2004 Madrid train bombings. Furthermore, it also honors the special forces agent who died when seven suicide bombers blew themselves up on 3 April 2004 during a raid on an apartment used by the bombers. The 11 m (36 ft) tall cylinder stands above Atocha station, the destination of the four trains that were attacked. Texts composed of hundreds of expressions of grief sent in the days after the attack from all over the world are printed on a clear colourless membrane that is inflated by air pressure, rising balloon-like inside a cylinder. That structure is composed of glass blocks and sits on a platform or terrace overhead. The light in the empty blue room below comes from this source alone. At night the cylinder is illuminated by lamps within its base and can be seen throughout the station neighborhood. King Juan Carlos, Queen Sofia and Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero attended a ceremony at the site on the third anniversary of the bombings, 11 March 2007. Wreaths were laid at the foot of the tower and mourners observed three minutes of silence.
