Empoli (Italian pronunciation: [ˈempoli]) is a town and comune in the Metropolitan City of Florence, Tuscany, Italy, about 30 km (20 miles) southwest of Florence, to the south of the Arno in a plain formed by the river. The plain has been usable for agriculture since Roman times. The commune's territory becomes hilly as it departs from the river. Empoli is on the main railway line from Florence to Pisa, and is the point of divergence of a line to Siena. Empoli has an enduring tradition as an agricultural centre. It has given its name to a local variety of artichoke.

Pozzale is a frazione in Empoli commune, Metropolitan City of Florence. It was the site of a medium-security women's prison. In 2010, it was announced that it would be converted into a facility exclusively for transgender prisoners, making it the first such facility in the world. However, the project was later cancelled by the Ministry of Justice and as of 2013, the prison had resumed its normal operation as a women's prison. In 2020, the prison was converted to a REMS (Residenza per l'Esecuzione delle Misure di Sicurezza) for mentally ill people who have committed crimes, replacing the old asylum-like hospital-prison placed in Villa Medicea L'Ambrogiana. It used to be the seat of a literary award called Premio Pozzale (now set in Empoli).

The Museo Leonardiano di Vinci, or Leonardian Museum of Vinci, is a museum dedicated to Leonardo da Vinci, located in Vinci, Leonardo's birthplace, in the province of Florence, Italy. The museum houses one of the largest collections of models constructed on the basis of Leonardo da Vinci's drawings. Over 60 models are exhibited, presented with precise references to the artist's sketches and handwritten annotations, also accompanied by digital animations and interactive applications. The first rooms are set up in the Palazzina Uzielli (Museo Ideale Leonardo da Vinci) while the remaining exhibition sections are housed in the medieval Castello dei Conti Guidi, the historic seat of the museum.

It encompasses a number of comune (municipalities) in the provinces of Florence and Siena.
