Stalbridge () is a town and civil parish in Dorset, England, situated in the Blackmore Vale, near the border with Somerset. In the 2011 census the civil parish—which includes the hamlets of Stalbridge Weston, and Thornhill—had 1,160 households and a population of 2,698. The nearest towns are Sturminster Newton, four miles (six kilometres) southeast, Sherborne, 6 mi (10 km) west, and Shaftesbury, 7 mi (11 km) northeast. Stalbridge is situated on the A357 on a low limestone ridge, one mile (1.5 kilometres) west of the River Stour. It officially became a town in April 1992.Though relatively small, Stalbridge has its own independent supermarket, dispensing pharmacy, dentist and optician, as well as many other services, reflecting its catchment area of surrounding farms and hamlets. It is also home to the local free newspaper, the Blackmore Vale Magazine.

Sited on a single line stretch, the station had a passing loop with a station building on the down side. The goods yard and adjacent level crossing were controlled from a signal box.

Henstridge is a village and civil parish in Somerset, England, situated 5 miles (8.0 km) east of Sherborne in the South Somerset district, near the border with Dorset. The parish includes the hamlet of Yenston. In 2011, the village had a population of 1,814.

Henstridge railway station was a station at Henstridge in the county of Somerset, in England. It was located on the Somerset and Dorset Joint Railway. Sited on a single line stretch, the station had one short platform with a modest station building. A siding was controlled from a ground frame, and an adjacent level crossing operated by hand.

The Church of St Nicholas in Henstridge, Somerset, England was built in the 12th century. It is a Grade II* listed building.

Royal Naval Air Station Henstridge (RNAS Henstridge; or HMS Dipper) is a former Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm airbase, located 7 miles (11 km) west of Shaftesbury, in Dorset and 12.4 miles (20 km) east of Yeovil, in Somerset, in South West England. It is home to the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance.

Caundle Brook is a 13.4 miles (21.6 km) tributary of the River Lydden that flows through Blackmore Vale in Dorset, England.Its headwaters rise at the foot of Dogbury Hill near Cosmore. The brook then flows in a northerly direction past the villages of Middlemarsh and Tiley until it collects The Cam and a second tributary that drains Caundle Marsh. Here it turns east, and is then crossed by Cornford Bridge and then the A3030 near Bishop's Caundle. It continues past Rowden Mill south of Stourton Caundle before being crossed by the A357 at Warr Bridge, beyond which it joins the Lydden near Lydlinch.

The Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance is a registered charity, which uses a helicopter to provide an air ambulance service to the English counties of Dorset and Somerset. The air ambulance came into service in March 2000, following the success of similar schemes, such as Devon Air Ambulance and Cornwall Air Ambulance. The air ambulance headquarters are at Wellington in Somerset, but the helicopter is based at Henstridge Airfield in Somerset.

Yenston is a small hamlet in Somerset within the Parish of Henstridge. Located on the A357, the hamlet is located between Templecombe and Henstridge. Over the years the hamlet has seen a number of changes. Back in the 1950s, the village had 3 pubs, a Methodist Church and a Village Shop Since then the pubs and shop have changed into dwellings, the village life is based around homelife. Yenston's major feature is the Gartell Light Railway, which allows you to travel behind Steam & Diesel hauled trains on the old Somerset & Dorset Joint Railway through the heart of Blackmore Vale. The Gartell Railway is open on a limited calendar. Other features of the village consist of the Yenston Stone (created in 2000) and the red telephone box within the centre of the village.

Stourton Caundle is a village and civil parish in the county of Dorset in southwest England. It lies within the Blackmore Vale, about five miles (eight kilometres) east of Sherborne. In the 2011 census the parish had 181 households and a population of 439.Stourton Caundle is one of several settlements in the area to bear the name "Caundle", the others being Bishop's Caundle, Purse Caundle and Caundle Marsh. The origin of "Caundle" is uncertain. In the Domesday Book in 1086 there are seven Domesday entries connected to the village, recorded as "Candelle", "Candel" or "Candele" in the hundred of Brunsell. The entries record a total of 45 households and a total taxable value of 17 geld units. Sir Henry de Haddon, a lord from Northamptonshire, bought land and founded a manor here in 1202, and the resultant settlement was called "Caundel Haddon" or "Caundle Haddon". The Haddons retained the manor until 1461 when it passed to the Stourton family, which resulted in the current village name.The manor was on the west side of the main village street and was probably fortified, resulting in it being referred to as a 'castle', though only a thirteenth-century chapel building (no longer used as such) and two fish ponds associated with the site now remain.Stourton Caundle's parish church is dedicated to St Peter and has a thirteenth-century nave and chancel, and a fourteenth-century tower.The village was once a venue for stave dancing.The village has a small pub called The Trooper, but villagers must travel to local town Stalbridge for other amenities. Enid Blyton used Manor Farm as inspiration for her novel Five on Finniston Farm. She owned the farm for a short time in the late 1950s.

Lydlinch is a village and civil parish in the Blackmore Vale in north Dorset, England, about three miles (five kilometres) west of Sturminster Newton. The village is sited on Oxford clay close to the small River Lydden. The parish – which includes the village of King's Stag to the south and the hamlet of Stock Gaylard to the west – is bounded by the Lydden to the east and its tributary, the Caundle Brook, to the north. The 2011 census recorded the parish as having 199 dwellings, 192 households and a population of 437.At King's Stag is the King's Stag Memorial Chapel which was built in 1914 at the expense of the Right Rev. Huyshe Yeatman-Biggs, the Bishop of Worcester, in memory of his wife, Lady Barbara Yeatman-Biggs, who died in 1909.

The Gartell Light Railway is a privately run narrow gauge railway located at Yenston in the Blackmore Vale, south of Templecombe, in Somerset, England. It operates a 2 ft (610 mm) narrow gauge railway running for 3⁄4 mile (1.2 km), partly along the track of the old Somerset and Dorset Joint Railway. The railway has 4 stations - Common Lane, Pinesway Junction, Park Lane and Tower View. The railway is controlled using a comprehensive signalling system operated from two signalboxes - Common lane and Pinesway Junction. Both signalboxes control a mix of semaphore and colour light signals with mechanically operated points.The railway is open to the public on selected dates through the year when it normally operates an intensive 3 train operation with departures from Common Lane station every 20 minutes through the day between 10:30 and 16:30.
