Grizzly Creek is a 3.2-mile-long northwest-flowing perennial stream in Contra Costa County, California. It is a major tributary of Las Trampas Creek, which is part of the larger Walnut Creek watershed, which in turn drains into Suisun Bay. The creek gets its name from the presence of California grizzly bear in its valley in historic times.

Lying at an elevation of 180 feet (55 m), it is bounded on the south and east by portions of Walnut Creek (including the gated senior residential development Rossmoor) and on the north and west by Lafayette. Saranap's ZIP code is 94595, but is addressed "Walnut Creek, CA" for delivery purposes as this is the postal designated city name used by residents. The community is in telephone area code 925. Saranap's population as of the 2010 census was 5,202.Saranap has had numerous opportunities to be annexed as either part of Lafayette, or of Walnut Creek. These have been largely resisted by the occupants, whose land use is governed by county rules. These include the ability to keep small aviaries and bees, which can be highly restricted by law in surrounding cities, and in newer neighborhoods by restrictive covenants. As the local school district is independent of these city boundaries, and some of the cities impose additional parcel taxes, residents have little incentive to change the status quo. Only a minor addition was made to Lafayette from Saranap in recent decades, adding only one more street and being largely motivated by marginally superior housing values associated with the city of Lafayette.

Lamorinda AVA is an American Viticultural Area in the San Francisco Bay Area located due east of the Berkeley Hills in Contra Costa County encompassing the region around the cities of Lafayette, Moraga and Orinda. The name Lamorinda is a portmanteau from the names of the three locales defining the region: Lafayette, Moraga, and Orinda. The AVA is a sub-region within the existing San Francisco Bay AVA and the larger, multicounty Central Coast AVA stretching approximately 30,000 acres (47 sq mi) with 46 commercially-producing vineyards that cover approximately 139 acres (56 ha). The USDA plant hardiness zone for the AVA is 9b. The AVA was proposed as the growers in the area found the wider San Francisco Bay and Central Coast AVA titles too generic and not indicative of its terroir. The Lamorinda AVA was officially established in February 2016 by the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB).

Lafayette (formerly La Fayette) is a city in Contra Costa County, California, United States. As of 2020, the city's population was 25,391. It was named after the Marquis de Lafayette, a French military officer of the American Revolutionary War.

The Lafayette Library and Learning Center (LLLC) is a library and learning center in Lafayette, California that opened in 2009. The Lafayette Library and Learning Center is also home to the Glenn Seaborg Learning Consortium, a partnership with the region’s leading arts, culture, and educational institutions. The Center includes classrooms which host programs from local learning institutions. It is a part of the Contra Costa County Library system. The Glenn Seaborg Learning Consortium, named after chemist Glenn Seaborg, aims to provide materials, archives, workshops, exhibits, K-12 curricula, lectures, films, and discovery centers from many local institutions such as the UC System, Lawrence Hall of Science, Oakland Museum of California, Chabot Space and Science Center, Commonwealth Club of California, Oakland Zoo in Knowland Park, John Muir Health, Lindsay Wildlife Museum, California Shakespeare Theater, Greenbelt Alliance, John F. Kennedy University, St. Mary’s College, and the UC Institute of Governmental Studies.The mission statement says that the center aims to be a cultural and learning center throughout the community, expanding upon the usual role of a library.

Acalanes High School is a public secondary school located in Lafayette, California, United States, in the San Francisco Bay Area, within Contra Costa County. Acalanes was the first of four high schools established in the Acalanes Union High School District. It was built in 1940 on what was then a tomato field, using federal government funds with labor provided by the Works Project Administration, the largest and most ambitious New Deal agency introduced by the Roosevelt administration. Lafayette businessman M.H. Stanley suggested the name "Acalanes", the name of Rancho Acalanes, the Mexican grant from which all land title within the City of Lafayette derives. Rancho Acalanes itself seems to have been named by its Hispanic settlers after the local Native American Bay Miwok tribe called Saklan (Saclan), referred to by Spanish missionaries as Saclanes. The first graduating class of 1941 selected the school colors of blue and white. For the school sports mascot, they chose the Don (a Spanish honorary title).

Campolindo High School is a public high school located in Moraga, California, United States, and is in the Acalanes Union High School District. In 2019, Campolindo was ranked 30th in California (and 239th nationally) by U.S. News & World Report.

Acalanes Ridge was created a census-designated place for the 2010 census, and comes alphabetically first among all census-designated places in California.

The school's first football team was fielded in 1892, and it was nationally prominent in the 1930s and 1940s, winning the Cotton Bowl in January 1939 and losing in the Sugar Bowl in January 1946. That 1945 team won its first seven games and was ranked seventh in the AP poll entering the bowl game. Many home games of this era were played at Kezar Stadium in San Francisco. The football program was dropped after the 1950 season, revived as a club sport, and returned to varsity status in 1970 (College Division, later Division III), and moved up to Division II in 1980. The team competed in NCAA Division I-AA as an independent from 1993 through 2003.In order to keep its overall athletics program at Division I, football was required to cease or move up to Division I-AA by 1993. (Rival Santa Clara discontinued football after 1992.) After eleven seasons as an I-AA independent, Saint Mary's ended its football program on March 3, 2004, citing budgetary reasons.

Lafayette station is a Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) station in Lafayette, California. The station consists of one island platform in the center median of State Route 24 just south of the Lafayette Hillside Memorial.

The Rheem Theatre is a motion picture theater located in Moraga, California. Built in 1957 by Donald Rheem, of Rheem Manufacturing Company, it was originally a 1,000-seat single screen movie theater. It was later used as a concert venue. In 1998 it was remodeled to host four screens. In January 2018 Rheem Theatre closed its doors for what seemed to be the last time. In light of the closing, the Moraga Town Council interceded on behalf of the community, helping the owners reach an agreement with the town to re-open the theater. In April 2019, the property was purchased by Cinema West and the Town of Moraga approved a 2-auditorium addition. The theater subsequently underwent an extensive renovation, which included removal of the stage platform in the main auditorium and installation of a 60-foot screen, Dolby Atmos and reclining seats and restoration of the theater's original finishes, reopening in December 2019. In addition to hosting the premiere of The Green Book with Mahershala Ali after re-opening in 2018, there have been many notable artists that performed in Rheem including: Kansas, Johnny Cash, Chris Isaak, The Righteous Brothers, Jefferson Starship and Chubby Checker.
