Cockercombe

Cockercombe Tuff is a greenish-grey, hard pyroclastic rock, formed by the compression of volcanic ash containing high quantities of chlorite, which gives it its distinctive colour. It is found almost exclusively in the south-eastern end of the Quantock Hills near Cockercombe, Somerset, England, from where it has been quarried for centuries. Quantock Lodge is built from Cockercombe tuff.

It was designated a Grade II* listed building on 4 May 1984.Bagborough House was built in 1739 by the Popham family, next to St Pancras Church. The saloon has decoration in the style of William Kent which dates from the original construction. The south front which has five Ionic columns, overlooks a landscaped park.The house was enlarged in 1820 when the stable block was built. Further enlargement took place in 1900. There is also a listed sundial, and walled kitchen garden.It has been the venue for various social events including the Hunt Ball of the Devon and Somerset Staghounds. It was used as one of the locations for the filming of the film Pandaemonium, which was largely shot in the surrounding Quantock Hills.The house is now lived in by Diana and Philip Brooke-Popham, and used as a wedding venue.

In 2011, the village had a population of 358.The parish of West Bagborough lies on the south-west slopes of the Quantock Hills within the Quantock Hills A.O.N.B and encompasses the neighbouring hamlets of Shopnoller and Seven Ash. The village has a wide variety of properties, with a wide range of building techniques and ages. Due to its availability, local red sandstone features heavily in buildings, both ancient and modern. The village has a 16th-century inn (the Rising Sun), a village hall, and a number of establishments offering accommodation.

Combe Florey House in Combe Florey, Somerset, England is a country house dating from the early 18th century. It replaced an Elizabethan manor house which was pulled down after the English Civil War. The gatehouse to the original manor survives. In the mid-20th century, the house was home to the writer Evelyn Waugh who died there in 1966 and is buried next to the churchyard of the adjacent Church of St Peter & St Paul. Combe Florey House is a Grade II listed building.

Wills Neck is the highest summit on the Quantock Hills and one of the highest points in Somerset, England. Although only 1261 ft (384 m) high, it qualifies as one of England's Marilyns. It is situated about 8 miles (13 km) north west of the historic market town of Taunton. The name 'Wills Neck' is derived from the Saxon word for 'stranger' or 'foreigner'. It relates to a local tribe the Wealas which according to legend fought the Romans at the site. On a clear day it is possible to see Dartmoor, Exmoor, the Brecon Beacons, the Mendips and Blackdown Hills. It is sometimes even possible to see Pilsdon Pen, the second highest point in Dorset, the highest, Lewesdon Hill, is also visible. The hill is formed from Hangman Grits laid down during the Devonian a geologic period of the Paleozoic Era spanning from the end of the Silurian Period, about 419.62 Mya (million years ago), to the beginning of the Carboniferous Period. Wills Neck was surveyed by schoolboys from Clifton College from 1922 and 1945, led by teacher William Cornish Badcock. They built a cairn at the highest point which has now been replaced, on exactly the same spot, by a modern Trig point. A beer brewed by the Quantock Brewery has been named Wills Neck after the hill.

Bishops Lydeard () is a village and civil parish located in Somerset, England, 5 miles (8 km) north-west of Taunton. The civil parish encompasses the hamlets of East Lydeard and Terhill, and had a population of 2,839 persons as recorded in the 2011 census; this figure, however, includes the village (and now separate parish) of Cotford St Luke.The village has been bypassed, since 1967, by the A358 road; the West Somerset Railway also runs through the area. The hamlet of East Lydeard is less than a mile to the east of the village; Terhill is about two miles north, while west of the village is Sandhill Park, an eighteenth-century country house.
