Tippecanoe County is located in the west-central portion of the U.S. state of Indiana about 22 miles east of the Illinois state line and less than 50 miles from the Chicago and the Indianapolis metro areas. As of the 2020 census, the population was 186,251. The county seat and largest city is Lafayette. It was created in 1826 from Wabash County portion of New Purchase and unorganized territory.Tippecanoe County was formed March 1, 1826, and named for the anglicization of "Kiteepihkwana", a Miami people term meaning "place of the buffalo fish people." The county is best known for Purdue University, the 1811 Battle of Tippecanoe, and the Tippecanoe County Courthouse, a structure built in 1881 and included in the National Register of Historic Places. Tippecanoe County is part of the Lafayette, Indiana, Metropolitan Statistical Area.

It developed between about 1892 and 1945 and includes representative examples of Queen Anne, Tudor Revival, and Bungalow / American Craftsman style architecture. Notable contributing resources include the Blistain Axel Merritt House (1914), John Wagner Jr. House (c. 1893), John Ross House (c. 1895), and Bicycle Bridge (1924).It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1996.

The Haan Mansion Museum of Indiana Art is a public museum in Lafayette, Indiana, housing the largest collection of Indiana art anywhere in the world. The museum is located in the Potter-Haan Mansion at 920 E State Street. The museum's collection includes over 100 paintings by Hoosier Group, Indiana Regionalism artists as well as ceramics, antique furniture and decorative items. The museum is a member of American Alliance of Museums. The museum is based on the private collection of Robert (Bob) and Ellen (Ellie) Haan, the founders and former owners of Haan Crafts Corporation.

The district encompasses 88 contributing buildings and 6 contributing structures in a predominantly residential section of Lafayette. It developed between about 1850 and 1946 and includes representative examples of Gothic Revival, Italianate, Queen Anne, Greek Revival, and Second Empire style architecture. Located in the district is the separately listed Judge Cyrus Ball House. Other notable contributing resources include the Samuel Moore House (1891), Moore-Porter-Boswell House (1895), Stanley Coulter House (1890), Edward Bohrer House (1909), Thomas Wood House (c. 1850), Job M. Nash House (1859), and Gordon Graham House (c. 1900).It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1997.

Judge Cyrus Ball House, also known as the Ball Mansion and Carriage House, is a historic home located at Lafayette, Tippecanoe County, Indiana. It was built in 1868–1869, and is a two-story, Second Empire style brick dwelling, with a three-story mansard roofed entrance tower. It sits on a limestone foundation, has intricate wood and stone detailing, and a slate roof. Also on the property is a contributing two-story, rectangular carriage house.: 2–3 It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984. It is located in the Ninth Street Hill Neighborhood Historic District.

Falley Home, also known as the Lahr Home, is a historic home located at Lafayette, Tippecanoe County, Indiana. The Italian Villa style brick house was built in 1863, and consists of three two-story sections and a three-story entrance tower. It is sheathed in stucco. The square corner entrance tower is topped by a cupola and encloses a curve staircase.: 2–3 It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.
