Barton Stacey

Barton Stacey railway station was a small single platform halt serving an army camp near the village of Barton Stacey. It was opened by February 1940; there was a regular workers' train from Southampton by that date. Little else is known, primarily because of its military association; and its whole life was during wartime — it closed in December 1940

Bransbury is a hamlet in Hampshire, England, part of the parish of Barton Stacey. The nearest village is Barton Stacey (where the 2011 census was included), halfway between Winchester and Andover; there is a junction for Bransbury on the A303 towards Exeter. Bransbury has twenty-two dwellings: a collection of agricultural workers’ cottages with gardens of generous proportions, Bransbury Manor, which dates from the 18th century, and Bransbury Mill, a Grade II listed building. The Crook and Shears Inn public house was converted into a dwelling in the late 20th century. The hamlet straddles the River Dever. The road from Barton Stacey to Bransbury is prone to pooling water, because of its position on the flood plain.

Naomi House and Jacksplace are the hospices for children and young people in the Wessex region. The hospices are located at Sutton Scotney, near Winchester, Hampshire, England. It is also known as The Wessex Children's Hospice Trust, (No.1002832). Naomi House and Jacksplace provide care to more than 300 children and young people with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions. The care and support that Naomi House offers is claimed to be unique in central southern England. They offer respite care, emergency support, a hospice at home service, end of life care and family support. The hospices provide palliative care to children, young people and their families in communities across seven counties - Berkshire, Dorset, Hampshire, Isle of Wight, Surrey, West Sussex and Wiltshire.Naomi House cares for children up to the age of 16, and Jacksplace offers care for young people aged 16 to 35. Each hospice is purpose-built and offers an appropriate, engaging environment for each age group. The charity needs to raise £8.5 million a year to run a full service and deliver its plans. The charity receives less than 15% of its income from statutory sources, the remaining amount is raised and donated by individuals, groups and businesses. Many people get involved by organizing or taking part in fundraising events whereas other individuals choose to volunteer their time.The hospices are staffed by Paediatric Palliative Care Consultants, doctors, nurses, carers and therapy specialists. Naomi House has been open to families since June 1997. Jacksplace was officially opened by the Countess of Wessex on 30 November 2010. The hospices have cared for more than 1,100 families.There are ten children's bedrooms and five family bedrooms at Naomi House and seven bedrooms available at Jacksplace. There are facilities such as music therapy, computers, art and play rooms and multi-sensory and hydrotherapy suites at both hospices. The charity's Clarendon Way Walk is the annual flagship event that sees thousands of supporters walk 26 miles (42 km) along the Clarendon Way, between Winchester and Salisbury Cathedrals.Naomi House launched a major redevelopment of the hospice building in 2014. Called the Caterpillar Appeal, the charity raised more than £4 million to fully refurbish the hospice. Changes to the building included larger bedrooms, a new spiritual space, improved family accommodation, better kitchen and dining spaces and the creation of areas for music therapy and messy play. The hospices are located on the Sutton Manor Estate, once home to J Arthur Rank and The Rank Organisation. The charity pays an annual peppercorn rent of 12 red roses to the estate's owners, the Cornelius-Reid family, each Midsummer's Day. Naomi House is named after Naomi Cornelius-Reid. Jacksplace is named after Jack Witham, a wealthy local businessman who left the charity an exceptionally generous legacy in his will.

Sutton Scotney is a village in Hampshire, England, north of Winchester in the civil parish of Wonston. It lies alongside the River Dever and is now bypassed by the A34 trunk road. It is notable for having been the site of numerous Spitfire crashes in the Second World War. It has a population of more than 200, and had a watercress-based economy. Its best-known resident was J. Arthur Rank who took the name of the village as part of his title when he was ennobled. The village pub, the Coach & Horses, dates back to 1762. The pub was recently refurbished and converted the former thatched village Fire station into bed and breakfast rooms. The village is home to Naomi House & Jacksplace, hospices that care for life-limited children and young people from across the Wessex region.

Tidbury Ring is the site of an Iron Age univallate hillfort located in Hampshire. The earthworks have been heavily destroyed by ploughing, but some sections to the south remain in better condition. The entrance lies to the southeast of the fort. The interior is for the most part farmland with the earthworks now covered by small trees and undergrowth Two Roman buildings, possibly a courtyard villa complex were found within the hill-fort. The site is now listed as a scheduled ancient monument no.87

Sutton Scotney railway station is a disused station which served the village of Sutton Scotney a few miles north of Winchester on the Didcot, Newbury and Southampton Railway.

Bullington is a civil parish in the Test Valley district of Hampshire, England. The parish contains Upper Bullington and Lower Bullington, both about 9 miles (14 km) south-east of Andover. According to the 2001 census the parish had a population of 101.

East Aston Common is an 18.2-hectare (45-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest east of Andover in Hampshire.This site in the flood plain of the River Test is part of one of the finest chalk stream habitats in Britain. It has alluvial meadows with a rich variety of herbs, areas of tall fen and a wide and shallow stretch of the river. There are many wetland birds, such as grasshopper warblers, water rails and reed bunting.

Longparish is a village and civil parish in Hampshire, England. It is composed of the four hamlets of Middleton, East Aston, West Aston and Forton that over time have expanded and effectively joined up to become one village. Longparish is situated on the northwest bank of the River Test. In 2011 the population (including Firgo and Forton) was 716.

The Bourne Rivulet is a river in the English county of Hampshire. It is a tributary of the River Test. The Bourne Rivulet (known as 'The Bourne' locally) is a winterbourne (a seasonal chalk stream that rises and falls with the water table). It usually rises in January and flows until around August each year. It normally runs from the village of Upton and flows through the villages of Hurstbourne Tarrant, St Mary Bourne and Hurstbourne Priors before joining with the Test near Tufton. Above Hurstbourne Tarrant it is known as the Swift or River Swift.Due to water extraction in the drainage basin, the upper flow is more intermittent than naturally. However Vitacress Salads Ltd.'s watercress plant, which is at the perennial headwater point, maintains flow through its pumping of extracted water not needed down into the stream.

Firgo is a hamlet close to the town of Whitchurch, Hampshire, England. Firgo is unusual in that it is only accessible directly from a dual-carriageway, in this case the A34. A crossroad-style junction formed of a gap in the central reservation leads to Firgo in one direction and Tufton Warren in the other.

Newton Stacey is a hamlet in the Barton Stacey civil parish in the Test Valley district of Hampshire, England. Its nearest town is Stockbridge, which lies approximately 4.5 miles (7.3 km) south-west from the hamlet.
