Lamerton

Chipshop is a hamlet in the civil parish of Lamerton in the West Devon district of Devon, England. Its nearest town is Tavistock, which lies approximately 2.7 miles (4.3 km) south-east from the hamlet. The hamlet is situated on the B3362 and consists of approximately a dozen residences and a public house, the "Copper Penny Inn" (formerly the "Chipshop Inn"). The name of the hamlet is nothing to do with fish and chip shops – miners in the local copper and arsenic mines were paid by scrip in the form of "chips" which they could exchange for goods only at locations such as inns. One of these inns, the "Hare and Hounds", thus became colloquially known as the "Chipshop Inn", and the hamlet which formed around it took its name from this. The inn, which is still open today, is now known as the "Copper Penny Inn".

Tavistock College is a coeducational secondary school and sixth form located in Tavistock, Devon, England. It had (as of April 2020) approximately 1800 pupils. The schools draws pupils from a catchment area of about 20 km (12 mi) radius. The college has links with Japan, Uganda, Spain, Ukraine, Swaziland, Peru, France and India through which staff exchanges and pupil visits and projects take place.

Tavistock railway station is a proposed new station to serve Tavistock in Devon, England, in order to reinstate a rail connection between the town and Plymouth, about 13 miles (21 km) to the south.

Tiddy Brook Meadows,(sometimes called Tiddybrook Meadows) is a settlement in Devon. It lies south of Whitchurch and just east of Tavistock, and sits on the banks of the river Tiddy Brook, which flows into the River Tavy. Most of the settlement was built in the late 2000s.

Tavistock ( TAV-iss-tok) is an ancient stannary and market town in West Devon, England. It is situated on the River Tavy, from which its name derives. At the 2011 census, the three electoral wards (North, South and South West) had a population of 13,028. The town traces its recorded history back to at least 961 when Tavistock Abbey, whose ruins lie in the centre of the town, was founded. Its most famous son is Sir Francis Drake.

The Corn Market is a commercial building in West Street in Tavistock, Devon, England. The structure, which is now used as a ladies' clothes shop, is a Grade II listed building.

Tavistock North was a railway station serving the town of Tavistock, operated by the Plymouth, Devonport and South Western Junction Railway, but forming part of the Exeter to Plymouth section of the London and South Western Railway. The station opened on 2 June 1890. The main station building is Grade II listed and said to have been designed by Galbraith and Church who were the engineers for the line. The contractors were Pethick and Sons of Plymouth The granite came from Pethwick's Swell Tor quarry, the bricks from the Plymouth Brickworks at Gunnislake and the ironwork from Messrs Mathews and Co at Tavistock Ironworks. The station was closed 6 May 1968. As it continued to be lived in by the former station-master and then his widow until 1999, the buildings have remained remarkably unaltered since its closure. The station building has been restored and converted into three self-catering cottages. The stationmaster's house is being restored as a private dwelling, while the goods yard, now known as Kilworthy Park, houses the offices of West Devon Borough Council. The track bed for about one mile (1.6 km) south of Tavistock North station is open to the public as a footpath and nature reserve, and it is possible to walk across the viaducts that overlook the town. The rest of the track bed south of Tavistock is almost intact to Bere Alston, where it joins the present-day Tamar Valley Line. There has been discussion regarding the re-opening of a rail link for a number of years. Engineering assessment has shown that the track bed, and structures such as bridges and tunnels, are in sound condition. In its 2023 autumn statement, the government confirmed £150 million for the project, subject to an updated business plan being approved.

Tavistock Abbey, also known as the Abbey of Saint Mary and Saint Rumon, is a ruined Benedictine abbey in Tavistock, Devon. The Abbey was surrendered in 1539 during the Dissolution of the Monasteries. Nothing remains of the abbey except the refectory, two gateways and a porch. The abbey church, dedicated to Our Lady and St Rumon, was destroyed by Danish raiders in 997 and rebuilt under Lyfing, the second abbot. The church was further rebuilt in 1285 and the greater part of the abbey between 1457 and 1458.

Tavistock Town Hall is a municipal building in Bedford Square, Tavistock, Devon, England. The structure, which remains the main venue for civic events in the town, is a Grade II listed building.

Brent Tor is a tor on the western edge of Dartmoor, approximately four miles (6.5 km) north of Tavistock, rising to 1100 ft (330m) above sea level. The Tor is surmounted by the Church of St Michael, the parish church of the village of Brentor, which lies below the Tor.
