Built from plan books in 1922 during a period of rapid growth in Corvallis, it is an excellent example of an airplane bungalow, and probably the only house of that style ever constructed in the city. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2007.

The newspaper, along with its sister publication, the Albany Democrat-Herald of neighboring Albany, Oregon, is owned by Lee Enterprises of Davenport, Iowa.The paper in its current form was created in 1909 as the result of the merger of two competing weekly newspapers, The Corvallis Gazette (established 1863), and The Corvallis Times (established 1888). Starting June 27, 2023, the print edition of the Gazette-Times will be reduced to three days a week: Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Also, the newspaper will transition from being delivered by a traditional newspaper delivery carrier to mail delivery by the U.S. Postal Service.

Located on several of Corvallis's earliest plats, the 122 historic houses remaining in the district (as of 1999) present a window into the domestic aspects of the city's development from 1870 to 1949, providing a full industrial, socioeconomic, and architectural profile of that period.
