Harvard Institute for International Development

The Rappaport Institute for Greater Boston is a research and policy center housed at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, located in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The director is Jeffrey Liebman, professor of economics at Harvard. The Rappaport Institute began operations in 2000 under the leadership of Professor Alan Altshuler, the faculty director, and Charles Euchner, the executive director. The Rappaport Institute developed an ambitious set of programs for research, public service, lectures and conferences, executive training, and information. The institute produced two comprehensive overviews of public policy in the region, studies of housing regulation, home rule, the economic drivers of growth, government management tools like CitiStat, public transit, parks management, and more. Each academic year, the Institute funds 12 Rappaport Public Policy Fellows, who are graduate students from Boston-area universities studying policy-related topics, providing funding for 10-week internships at government and public service entities in the Boston area. Law students are eligible for a separate Rappaport Fellowship in Law and Public Policy administered by the Institute's sister institution, the Rappaport Center for Law and Public Service at Suffolk University.The Institute also supports courses, the development of teaching materials, and encourages faculty and student research on issues of importance for Greater Boston. In addition, the Institute sponsors public events, maintains an online database on scholarly research about the region, and produces publications that summarize new scholarly research. The Institute also houses the Rappaport Urban Scholars program, which since 1981 has provided local elected and appointed officials with scholarships to the Kennedy School’s mid-career master's degree program.

The Harvard Kennedy School (HKS), officially the John F. Kennedy School of Government, is the public policy school of Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, US. The school offers master's degrees in public policy, public administration, and international development, four doctoral degrees, and many executive education programs. It conducts research in subjects relating to politics, government, international affairs, and economics. As of 2021, HKS had an endowment of $1.7 billion. The School is a member of the Association of Professional Schools of International Affairs (APSIA), a global consortium of schools that seeks to train leaders in international affairs.The School's primary campus is located on John F. Kennedy Street in Cambridge. The main buildings overlook the Charles River and are southwest of Harvard Yard and Harvard Square, on the site of a former MBTA Red Line trainyard. The School is adjacent to the public riverfront John F. Kennedy Memorial Park. The Kennedy School's alumni include 17 heads of state or government, the most of any graduate institution in the world. Alumni also include other public servants, including cabinet officials, military leaders, heads of central banks, and legislators.

The Harvard Institute of Politics (IOP) is an institute of the John F. Kennedy School of Government of Harvard University that was created to serve as a living memorial to President John F. Kennedy, as well as to inspire Harvard undergraduates to consider careers in politics and public service. The IOP works to bring the academic world into contact with the world of politics and public affairs in a non-partisan way to promote public service. Undergraduates Menat Bahnasy and Kevin Ballen serve as President and Vice President of the Institute.

Eliot House is one of twelve undergraduate residential Houses at Harvard University. It is one of the seven original houses at the college. Opened in 1931, the house was named after Charles William Eliot, who served as president of the university for forty years (1869–1909).

Weld Boathouse is a Harvard-owned building on the bank of the Charles River in Cambridge, Massachusetts. It is named after George Walker Weld, who bequeathed the funds for its construction.

Charlie's Kitchen ("The Double Cheeseburger King") is a restaurant serving American fare with New England specialties in the Harvard Square neighborhood of Cambridge, Massachusetts. “Charlie’s” houses bars on two separate floors; additionally, a front patio and backyard beer garden are open seasonally. The Boston Phoenix named it one of the best dive bars in Boston in 2009.

Kirkland House is one of twelve undergraduate residential Houses at Harvard University, located near the Charles River in Cambridge, Massachusetts. It was named after John Thornton Kirkland, president of Harvard University from 1810 to 1828.

The Conductor's Building is a former Boston Elevated Railway (BERy) administrative building, located on Bennett Alley between Mount Auburn Street and Bennett Street near Harvard Square in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Built in 1912 as the headquarters of BERy's 7th Division, it is the only original building surviving from the construction of the Cambridge subway. After being renovated from 2014 to 2017 as part of an adjacent hotel project, the building was used as a restaurant from April 2017 to August 2018. Under the name Boston Elevated R.Y. Offices, it is a contributing property to the Harvard Square Historic District.

Upstairs On the Square, originally UpStairs at the Pudding (because of the original location above Harvard's Hasty Pudding Club), ended “its storied 31-year run” on December 31, 2013. Owned by Mary-Catherine Deibel and Deborah Hughes, the building they were in was being sold by the landlord. Their menu has been described as “adventurous classic European”. In 2012, Hughes' daughter Charlotte Silver published a memoir about growing up at the restaurant, Charlotte Au Chocolat: Memories of a Restaurant Girlhood’’.

The Great Bridge over the Charles River connected Cambridge, Massachusetts, to what is now known as Allston, Boston, Massachusetts. The Great Bridge was built in 1660–1662 at what was then called Brighton Street, and was the first bridge to span the Charles. A toll was authorized in 1670. The bridge was rebuilt in 1862.The Great Bridge was at the site of the modern-day Anderson Memorial Bridge, which connects John F. Kennedy Street in Cambridge to North Harvard Street in Allston.

The Joint Center for Housing Studies of Harvard University is a research center that focuses on housing matters. Based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, the Center advances understanding of housing issues and informs policy. Through its research, education, and public outreach programs, the Center helps leaders in government, business, and the civic sectors make decisions that effectively address the needs of cities and communities.

Craigie Arms is a historic apartment house in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Located in Harvard Square, the Georgian Revival four-story brick building was built in 1897 to meet local demand for apartment-style housing. The building occupies most of a city block along University Road, Mount Auburn Street, and Bennett Street. It is notable for its relatively modest decoration and the rounded corner projections.The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.
