Riska

Hommersåk is a village in Sandnes municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. The village is located in the borough of Riska in the northern part of the municipality. It is situated about 12 kilometres (7.5 mi) northeast of the centre of the city of Sandnes, along the shore of the Riskafjorden, an arm off the main Gandsfjorden. The 2.28-square-kilometre (560-acre) village has a population (2019) of 6,425 and a population density of 2,818 inhabitants per square kilometre (7,300/sq mi).Hommersåk has bus connections to the city of Sandnes and boat connections to the city of Stavanger, across the fjord. There are a few shops and a small shopping centre called Bryggen. There is also a sports centre with swimming facilities. The village and its surroundings is a popular place for cottages and leisure boats among people from the Stavanger/Sandnes area. There are two churches in the village: Riska Church and the historic Old Riska Church. The island of Uskjo lies just off the coast of Hommersåk to the north.

Old Riska Church (Norwegian: Riska gamle kirke) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in the large Sandnes municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. It is located in the village of Hommersåk in the borough of Riska, east of the centre of the city of Sandnes in the western part of the municipality. It is one of the two churches for the Riska parish which is part of the Sandnes prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Stavanger. The white, wooden church was built in a long church design in 1877 using plans drawn up by the architects Hans Linstow and Henrik Nissen. The church seats about 200 people.Over time, the church became too small for the parish. In 1999, the church was retired from regular use when the new, much larger Riska Church was completed (about a block to the northeast). Since that time, this church is only used for special occasions.

Riska Church (Norwegian: Riska kirke) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in the large Sandnes municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. It is located in the village of Hommersåk in the borough of Riska, east of the centre of the city of Sandnes in the western part of the municipality. It is one of the two churches for the Riska parish which is part of the Sandnes prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Stavanger. The concrete and stone church was built in a fan-shaped design in 1999 using plans drawn up by the architect Odd Magne Vatne. The church seats about 520 people, more than twice as many people as the Old Riska Church which this building replaced.The Old Riska Church was used for this parish from 1877 until its retirement in 1999 after the new Riska Church was completed. The old church has only been used for special occasions since this church opened.

Frøylandsvatnet is a lake in the municipality of Sandnes in Rogaland county, Norway. The 0.48-square-kilometre (120-acre) lake lies on the south side of the village of Hommersåk, about 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) northeast of the city of Sandnes. The lake empties into a small river that runs out of the north end of the lake. The river runs through Hommersåk into an arm of the Gandsfjorden.

Kalvøy is an island in Stavanger municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. The 0.58-square-kilometre (140-acre) island lies in an archipelago at the mouths of the Gandsfjorden and Høgsfjorden, about 4.5 kilometres (2.8 mi) east of the centre of the city of Stavanger. The island lies just south of the islands of Lindøy and Hellesøy and together, the three islands form a "neighborhood" within the city of Stavanger. In 2016, the three islands had a total combined population of 26. The island is only accessible by boat. The island of Uskjo lies about 1 kilometre (0.62 mi) to the south (in Sandnes municipality).

Hellesøy or Hedlesøy is an island in Stavanger municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. The 0.41-square-kilometre (100-acre) island lies in an archipelago at the mouths of the Gandsfjorden and Høgsfjorden, about 4.5 kilometres (2.8 mi) east of the centre of the city of Stavanger. The island lies close between the islands of Lindøy and Kalvøy and together, the three islands form a "neighborhood" within the city of Stavanger. In 2016, the three islands had a total combined population of 26. The island is only accessible by boat.

Gandsfjorden or Gandafjorden is a fjord in Rogaland county, Norway. The 13-kilometre (8.1 mi) long Gandsfjorden is an arm off of the large Boknafjorden. It runs between the mainland and the Stavanger Peninsula in the western parts of the municipalities of Stavanger and Sandnes. The entire west and south side of the Gandsfjorden is highly developed and urban as this is the location of the cities of Stavanger and Sandnes, the third largest urban area in Norway. The east side of the fjord is far less developed and it has many mountains and peaks. In the outer parts of the fjord there are several islands including Uskjo, Hundvåg, Vassøy, and the Øyane islands of Stavanger.

Vatne is a village in Sandnes municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. The village lies in the borough of Hana, just about 3 kilometres (1.9 mi) northeast of the centre of the city of Sandnes. The Vatneleiren military base is located in Vatne. It is considered a part of the Stavanger/Sandnes metropolitan area. The 0.57-square-kilometre (140-acre) village has a population (2019) of 915 and a population density of 1,605 inhabitants per square kilometre (4,160/sq mi).

Lindøy is an island in the Byfjorden in Stavanger municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. The 280-decare (69-acre) island lies about 4 kilometres (2.5 mi) northeast of the centre of the city of Stavanger. It sits in an archipelago surrounded by the islands of Vassøy, Hellesøy, and Kalvøy. All of those islands are connected to the mainland only by boat.

Mariero Station (Norwegian: Mariero holdeplass) is a railway station in Stavanger Municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. The station is located at Mariero in the city of Stavanger, about 4.13 kilometres (2.57 mi) from the main Stavanger Station. It is served by the Jæren Commuter Rail operated by Go-Ahead Norge by up to four hourly trains in each direction. The station is located along the double track section of the Sørland Line, and was opened on 16 November 2009. It is co-located with a Kolumbus bus stop, allowing transfer to many routes.

Sviland is a borough in the southwestern part of the municipality of Sandnes in Rogaland county, Norway. It is located in the rural part of the municipality, southeast of the city of Sandnes. With a population (2020) of only 1,332, the borough is one of the least populous of all the boroughs in Sandnes. On the other hand, Sviland borough is 68.6 square kilometres (26.5 sq mi), making it the second largest borough by area. Sviland Chapel is located in the borough. The borough is home of the legendary Norwegian race horse Rex Rodney, winner of the 1986 Elitloppet.

Vatneleiren is a military base located in the municipality of Sandnes in Rogaland county, Norway. It was constructed just east of the Hanafjellet mountain just outside the city of Sandnes by the German Army during World War II, and has been used by the Norwegian Army since 1945. After the Cold War ended the number of soldiers stationed there gradually decreased, and the base is now mainly used by the Norwegian Home Guard. The Agder og Rogaland Heimevernsdistrikt 08 (Agder and Rogaland Home District 08) is based here, covering the two southernmost counties of Rogaland and Agder. The United Nations Logistics Officers Centre maintains a training centre in Vatneleiren, offering a logistics course.
