Ferriby railway station

North Ferriby Priory was a priory in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England, founded about 1160 by William de Vescy as a preceptory for the Knights Templar, after whose suppression it became a priory of the Austin canons. According to others, it was founded about 1200 by Lord Eustace Broomfleet de Vesci. One of the canons was usually appointed vicar of the church in North Ferriby. The priory was suppressed on 13 August 1536. The buildings have been demolished since. The priory is still remembered in the street name "Priory Avenue" and in the "Priory Rooms" of the 20th-century village hall.

The district was created by the Local Government Act 1894.In 1935 the district was abolished by a County Review Order made under the Local Government Act 1929. and the area then formed part of the newly created Holderness Rural District and the Haltemprice Urban District. At the same time parts were transferred to Beverley Rural District and the municipal boroughs of Hedon and Kingston upon Hull.

The Humber Gap is a term for the geographic gap between the roughly north–south running line of hills formed by the Yorkshire Wolds and the Lincolnshire Wolds, formed by the west–east running Humber Estuary.In the geological past the gap has formed part of an ice barrier due to glaciers during the ice age resulting in damming and formation of a 'Humber Lake', and also forms a geological division.In modern times the gap has formed a natural choice for transport routes, such as the railways. The Humber Bridge also crosses the Humber close to the gap.
