Bret Harte is a census-designated place (CDP) in Stanislaus County, California, United States. The population was 5,152 at the 2010 census, down from 5,161 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Modesto Metropolitan Statistical Area. It is named for the American poet and short story writer, Bret Harte, best known for his writings about the California Gold Rush.

The population was 3,371 at the 2010 census, down from 5,170 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Modesto Metropolitan Statistical Area. Prior to its annexation, the neighbourhood was a census-designated place (CDP).

KXOK-LP was a community-aimed urban contemporary LPFM radio station serving Modesto, California, broadcasting on 107.9 FM. Originally licensed as KPSR-LP, it was Modesto's only true urban formatted radio station playing hip hop, R&B, old school, classic soul, and gospel music, catering to the mainstream and adult audiences in the relatively demographically small African American community. (KHTN also plays hip hop and R&B, but it carries a rhythmic format.) In addition, it carried community affairs programs and had planned to air local church services. KPSR-LP filed with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) on February 7, 2014, for a special temporary authorization allowing it to go off the air due to difficulty with the landlord of their studio in Modesto. A subsequent attempt by several local business people to revive the station as KXOK-LP, playing oldies-but-goodies music (as part of Modesto's annual "Graffiti Festival" program) was rejected by the FCC.The station's call letters were removed from the FCC database on January 11, 2015, after the station was unable to provide proof that they had not been off-air for over a year. A subsequent request to reverse the call-letter removal (and license cancellation) was rejected by the FCC on June 30, 2016.

GALLO is a winery and distributor headquartered in Modesto, California. It was founded in 1933 by Ernest Gallo and Julio Gallo of the Gallo family, and is the largest exporter of California wines. It is the largest wine producer in the world, producing over 3% of the world's entire annual supply of 35 billion bottles with an annual revenue of $5.3 billion it is also the largest family-owned winery in the United States. Gallo provides about 3,500 jobs to Modesto residents and 2,500 jobs in other parts of the state, country, and world (meaning that most of its employment base is in Modesto).

The Modesto Arch is a centennial slogan arch, built in 1912, to welcome automobile drivers to Modesto, California where it currently stands at the intersection of 9th and I Streets. The arch bears the city's motto, "Water, Wealth, Contentment, Health", illuminated by 696 incandescent lightbulbs.
