Marken (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈmɑrkə(n)]; Marken's dialect: Mereke) is a village in the municipality of Waterland in the province of North Holland, Netherlands. It had a population of 1,745 as of 2021, and occupies a peninsula in the Markermeer. It was, until 1957, an island in the former Zuiderzee. The characteristic wooden houses of Marken are a tourist attraction.

Uitdam is a village in the Dutch province of North Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Waterland, and lies on the coast of the IJsselmeer, about 12 km northeast of Amsterdam. The village was first mentioned in 1345 as Udam, and means "damn outside the dike". Uitdam and neighbouring Zuiderwoude formed a heerlijkheid in 1628 which existed until 1811. Uitdam was home to 88 people in 1840. The first church was built in the 17th century. The current church dates from 1937.

The Volendam New Year's fire was a café fire in the Dutch town of Volendam during the 2000–2001 New Year's night. The fire began early on New Year's Day 2001 and caused the death of 14 young people. There were in all 241 people admitted to hospital, 200 of whom suffered serious burns.

Katwoude is a village in the province of North Holland, Netherlands. It is a part of the municipality of Waterland, and lies on the coast of the IJsselmeer, about 2 km north of Monnickendam. The village was first mentioned in 1310 as "lant van Kattwoude". The etymology is unclear. Even though there is a cat in the shield, it is unlikely to be related to the animal.Katwoude was home to 182 people in 1840. It used to be a separate municipality between 1817 and 1991, when it became part of Waterland. Katwoude used to share a mayor with Monnickendam.

The Battle on the Zuiderzee (October 11, 1573) was a naval battle during the Eighty Years' War in which a Dutch fleet destroyed a larger and better-equipped Spanish fleet on the Zuiderzee.

The Zuidpoldermolen is a windmill in Edam, dated between 1626-35 and was used to grind grain and drain a polder: low land that has been reclaimed from the sea and diked. The mill is owned by the Dutch Windmill Society.

Edam-Volendam (Dutch: [eːˌdɑm ˈvoːlə(n)ˌdɑm] (listen)) is a municipality in the northwest Netherlands, in the province of North Holland, primarily consisting of the towns of Edam and Volendam. Since 2016, the former municipality of Zeevang has merged with the municipality of Edam-Volendam.

Museum de Speeltoren is a museum in Monnickendam, North Holland, in the Netherlands. Museum exhibitions focus on the history, culture, art, and environment of Monnickendam. The museum has a large collection of delftware and majolica. They also have an exhibition where guests can go inside the Speeltoren carillon.In 2015, the museum was awarded the national Dutch "Museum Discover Award."

It is a fine dining restaurant that was awarded one Michelin star for the period 2009-present.GaultMillau awarded the restaurant 15 out of 20 points.Head chef of Posthoorn is Jeroen Bavelaar. He took over from Rogier van Dam, who left the restaurant in 2010.Hotel De Posthoorn, with its new restaurant, reopened in 2005. The original hotel started as a stable and inn in 1888.
