Shōsōin

Tōdai-ji (東大寺, Todaiji temple, "Eastern Great Temple") is a Buddhist temple complex that was once one of the powerful Seven Great Temples, located in the city of Nara, Japan. The construction of the temple was an attempt to imitate Chinese temples from the much-admired Tang dynasty. Though it was originally founded in the year 738 CE, Tōdai-ji was not opened until the year 752 CE. The temple has undergone several reconstructions since then, with the most significant reconstruction (that of the Great Buddha Hall) taking place in 1709. However, it was on the verge of collapse in the late 19th century due to the weight of its huge roof. The collapse was prevented through a first restoration (1904–1913), and its current appearance was completed using rebars and concretes between 1974 and 1980. Its Great Buddha Hall (大仏殿 Daibutsuden) houses the world's largest bronze statue of the Buddha Vairocana, known in Japanese as Daibutsu (大仏). The temple also serves as the Japanese headquarters of the Kegon school of Buddhism. The temple is a listed UNESCO World Heritage Site as one of the "Historic Monuments of Ancient Nara", together with seven other sites (including temples, shrines and places) in the city of Nara.

The Kitayama Jūhachikento (北山十八間戸) was a welfare facility built in the Kawakami neighborhood of the city of Nara during the Kamakura period to protect and provide relief to people with serious illnesses such as leprosy. It was designated a National Historic Site in 1921.

Neiraku Museum (寧楽美術館, Neiraku Bijitsukan) is an art museum in the city of Nara, central Japan. The museum opened in April 1969. It contains the works collected by Nakamura Junsaku (1875–1953), who was the founder of the Isuien Garden. The collection totals over 2000 items, which includes bronze wares, seals and mirrors of ancient China as well as pottery of ancient Korea. The museum building was built in a traditional style and features rotating exhibitions.

Nigatsu-dō (Japanese: 二月堂 lit. 'The Hall of the Second Month') is one of the important structures of Tōdai-ji, a temple in Nara, Japan. Nigatsu-dō is located to the east of the Great Buddha Hall, on the hillside of Mount Wakakusa. It includes several other buildings in addition to the specific hall named Nigatsu-dō, thus comprising its own sub-complex within Tōdai-ji.

Isui-en (依水園, Isuien) is a Japanese garden located in Nara, the old capital of Japan near Kyōto. It has been preserved since its creation in the Meiji era, and is the only walking garden (kaiyushiki teien) in Nara. It is divided into two sections, which were originally two separate gardens, and each features a pagoda.

Yoshiki-en (吉城園) is a Japanese garden in Nara, Japan, to the immediate southwest of Isui-en.

Tamukeyama Hachiman Shrine (手向山八幡宮, Tamukeyama Hachimangū) is a Shinto shrine near Tōdai-ji, Nara, Nara Prefecture, Japan. It is a Hachiman shrine, dedicated to the kami Hachiman. It was established in 749. Kami enshrined here include Emperor Ojin, Emperor Nintoku, Empress Jingū and Emperor Chūai in addition to Hachiman.

Himuro Shrine (氷室神社, Himuro Jinja) is a Shinto shrine in Nara, Nara Prefecture, Japan. It was established in 710. Kami enshrined here include Tsugenoinagi oyamanushi no mikoto, Emperor Nintoku and Nukata no Onakatsuhiko no Mikoto (額田大仲彦命). The shrine's main festival is held annually on October 1. Tsugenoinagi oyamanushi no mikoto was a folk figure said to have invited a way to preserve ice. Prince Nukata no Onakatsuhiko no Mikoto, a brother of Emperor Nitoku, met with Tsugenoinagi oyamanushi no mikoto and brought the method to preserve ice to the Emperor

Hannya-ji (般若寺) is a Buddhist temple of the Shingon Ritsu sect in Nara, Japan. Its foundation is variously dated, but mention in a document in the Shōsōin provides a terminus ante quem of the mid-eighth century.

Nara Prefectural Museum of Art (奈良県立美術館, Nara kenritsu bijutsukan) opened in Nara, Japan in 1973. The collection numbers some 4,100 items and special exhibitions are also held.

The Nara National Museum (奈良国立博物館, Nara Kokuritsu Hakubutsukan) is one of the pre-eminent national art museums in Japan.

Sento-kun (せんとくん) is a yuru-chara mascot created by Nara City Office to commemorate the 1300th anniversary of Nara Heijō-kyō, the ancient capital of Japan, in 2010. The city of Nara has a long tradition of adopting guardian deities such as Nio (a pair of temple guardians), Asura, Jūni Shinshō (Twelve Heavenly Generals) and Shitenno (Four Guardian Kings). The new mascot was chosen by the city office to inherit their mission, and as a "personification of the energy" of the ancient capital dotted with temples, gardens and shrines. Sento-kun is meant to resemble an amiable young boy who has the antlers of a deer, an animal which has long been regarded as a heavenly protector of the city.
