The John Covington Moore House is a historic house in rural Clay County, North Carolina. It is located on North Carolina Route 1307, about 4 miles (6.4 km) from the county seat, Hayesville. The 1+1⁄2-story log structure was built c. 1838 by John C. Moore, not long after the forced removal of the Cherokee from the area. The building is mounted on fieldstone piers, and has a porch extending across its front. There are shed-roofed rooms across the back of the house, and an exterior chimney at one end.John C. Moore is acknowledged as Clay County's first white settler. He began homesteading in the area as early as 1833, and claimed the land around this house after the Cherokee removal. He was one of Clay County's first commissioners.The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.The John Covington Moore House appears to have been removed from the land it was on by 2019.

Walker's Inn is a historic building in rural Cherokee County, North Carolina. It is located at the northeast corner of the junction of SR 1505 and SR 1383 near Andrews. The house, appearing as a two-story five-bay frame house, was apparently built in stages, beginning c. 1844, after William Walker acquired the land on which it stands. The three rightmost bays of the house are a log structure, while the two on the left are a frame structure. The logs are partially exposed on the front, while most of the house is sheathed in board-and-batten siding. Windows are irregularly placed on the main facade. Long known as an inn, it sits along what was in the 19th century the major route between Franklin and Murphy. Frederick Law Olmsted stayed at the inn during his travels in the area in the late 19th century.The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975.

Tusquittee (originally Tusquitee) is an unincorporated community located in Clay County, North Carolina, United States. It is bordered on the north by Fires Creek Bear Reserve, which is within the Nantahala National Forest. The Tusquitee Mountain range includes Tusquitee Bald at 5,240 feet.

Andrews High School (AHS) in Andrews, North Carolina serves grades 9–12 and is one of only three high schools in the Cherokee County Schools System. As of 2007 it had a full-time teaching staff of 27 teachers giving an average of 11 students per teacher. In 2023-24 enrollment was 221. The school's capacity is 530. The current building is a one-story, three building campus, built in 1962, after the original three-story campus was burned down months earlier. A May 2020 vote by the Cherokee County Board of Education was to consolidate Andrews, Murphy, and Hiwassee Dam High Schools, and a grant of $50 million was given to the school system in September 2022, though the grant was returned as a result of another vote of this time, the new members of the Cherokee County Board of Education.

The former First Baptist Church, now the Valleytown Cultural Arts Center is a historic Baptist church building at 101 Chestnut Street in Andrews, Cherokee County, North Carolina. The Classical Revival brick structure was built in 1923 for a congregation founded in 1902; it was their second building on the site. The building was used by the congregation until c. 1987, when it was sold to a local nonprofit corporation for use as an arts center.The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002.

The Franklin Pierce Cover House is a historic house on North Carolina Route 1388 in the small town of Andrews, North Carolina. The 2+1⁄2-story brick Queen Anne Victorian was built in 1900, and is a remnant of Andrews' industrial heritage. The house was built by Franklin Pierce Cover, owner of a local tannery. It exhibits the complex massing typical of Queen Anne houses, with multiple gables, projections, and a massive three-story octagonal tower. Documentary photographs suggest the house once had a Queen Anne porch with brackets and an ornamental frieze, but this was replaced by a more Colonial Revival scheme with heavier Tuscan columns.The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.

The Spikebuck Town Mound and Village Site is a prehistoric and historic archaeological site on Town Creek near its confluence with the Hiwassee River within the boundaries of present-day Hayesville, North Carolina. The site encompasses the former area of the Cherokee village of Quanassee (also spelled Qunassee on a 1725 colonial map) and associated farmsteads. The village was centered on what is known as Spikebuck Mound, an earthwork platform mound, likely built about 1,000 CE by ancestral indigenous peoples during the South Appalachian Mississippian culture period. Quanassee was known by the English in the colonial period as one of the historic Cherokee "Valley Towns". At one time, it had a population of several hundred, but by 1721 had declined, in part because of the Creek-Cherokee War (c. 1716–1752). It was razed at the beginning of the American Revolution by state militias during the Rutherford Light Horse expedition of fall 1776, because the Cherokee were allied with the British when colonial rebels launched the war. The area was known as Quanassee into the early 1800s. Most of the Cherokee were forcibly removed from North Carolina and the Southeast. The mound and village site was listed as an archeological site on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.

Clay County Schools (CCS) is the school district in North Carolina, that manages the county's public school system. It is the only school system in Clay County, with about 1,200 students attending a total of 4 separate schools, located on a central campus in Hayesville, North Carolina. The system covers all of Clay County. After county government, Clay County Schools is the largest employer in the county with a staff of 205 people.The district is run by the Clay County School's superintendent. The current superintendent is former Hayesville Elementary principal Melissa Godfrey. The present school board has five nonpartisan members who are elected by popular vote and are limited to a four-year term. Because of its county-wide coverage, there are some students in the system that have an hour-long bus-ride to and from school.

The Clay County Courthouse is located on Main Street in Hayesville, Clay County, North Carolina. The T-shaped two-story brick building was built in 1888, and is a prominent local example of vernacular Italianate architecture. Its most visible feature is a three-story square tower, which projects for half its width from the main facade, and through which entry to the building is gained.The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975.

Hayesville is a town in Clay County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 311 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Clay County.

Tusquittee Township is one of the six townships of Clay County, North Carolina, United States and is the northernmost of the six. The other five are Brasstown; Hayesville, which contains the county seat of the same name; Sweetwater, Hiawassee, and Shooting Creek. The name is derived from the Cherokee people, who occupied this area as part of their homeland.
