Kandahar is a classic World Cup downhill ski course, located on the Zugspitze mountain in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Bavaria, Germany, opened in 1936.In 2009 almost complete new "Kandahar 2" men's DH course opened, parallel to original "Kandahar" (then renamed to "Kandahar 1").Since 1954, Arlberg-Kandahar races have been held here exchanging with few other well known venues every couple years. And with 42.6° degrees (92%) maximum incline, it has the 2nd steepest gradient in the whole alpine ski circuit.

Garmisch Classic is an alpine ski area in the Bavarian Alps of southern Germany, near Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Bavaria. Its maximum elevation is 2,050 m (6,726 ft) above sea level at Osterfelderkopf, with a vertical drop of 1,350 m (4,429 ft). Other peaks of ski area are the Kreuzjoch at 1,719 m (5,640 ft) and Kreuzeck at 1,651 m (5,417 ft).The area hosted the World Championships in 2011 and 1978, and alpine skiing debuted at the Winter Olympics here in 1936. Run only as a combined event in 1936, the downhill portion was run at Garmisch Classic and the slalom was run at Gudiberg, adjacent to the ski jumps (Große Olympiaschanze). Garmisch Classic is known for the classic Kandahar slope, descending from Kreuzjoch, where the speed events are held for the World Cup and World Championships. Skiing is also available above Garmisch Classic on the Zugspitzplatt, a glacial plateau below the summit of the Zugspitze, the highest point in Germany at 2,962 m (9,718 ft). The lift-served summit for skiing is 2,720 m (8,924 ft), descending to 2,000 m (6,562 ft), for a vertical drop of 720 m (2,362 ft).

The Edelweiss Vacation Village and Campground is a U.S. Department of Defense recreational facility that is a part of the Edelweiss Lodge and Resort in Garmisch, Germany. The Vacation Village and Campground consists of a collection of deluxe and rustic wood cabins located on Artillery Kaserne in Southern Garmisch, and a gravel campsite in the Loisach River Valley. The Tent and Gravel Campsites are closed from October to Mid-May, but the cabins are open all year round.

Grainau is a municipality in the district of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, in southern Bavaria, Germany. It is located at the foot of the Zugspitze mountain, the tallest mountain in Germany in the sub-mountain range of the Wetterstein Alps which is a branch off the main mountain range it is connected to, the Alps. Lake Eibsee in Grainau lies at the foot of the Zugspitze surrounded by forest.

Edelweiss Lodge and Resort is a U.S. Department of Defense owned recreation hotel in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany. Located in the Bavarian Alps near the Austrian border, the facility opened in September 2004 at a cost of $80 million. Due to international agreements, the use of the Commissary, Community Bank and PX/BX are limited to personnel assigned to US Forces in Europe and NATO ID card holders who have this privilege. This includes rationed items such as gas coupons. Gas prices are considerably higher compared to US standards. Military Post Offices may be used only by retirees who reside in Germany for over 30 days and who have Box R privileges with restrictions. Alpine Adventures is located in Edelweiss Lodge and Resort and has an array of Bavarian items, t-shirts and other souvenirs.

Osterfelderkopf (elevation 2,057 m (6,749 ft)) is a summit of the Wetterstein range in the German state of Bavaria.

The Höllental, English translation "Hell Valley" or "Valley of Hell" is one of the routes on the German side leading up the Zugspitze on the German-Austrian border in the northern Alps. It is located in the district of Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

Kramerspitz (or The Kramer) is a mountain overlooking the Garmisch side of Garmisch-Partenkirchen in Bavaria, Germany. It forms the most visible western boundary of the Loisach River Valley. It stands across the valley from the Wank to the east on the Partenkirchen side.

Riessersee is a German lake located in southwest Garmisch-Partenkirchen. The lake itself hosted the speed skating events and 10 of the 37 ice hockey games for the 1936 Winter Olympics. Adjacent to the lake, the bobsleigh events took place.

The Höllentalanger Hut (1,381 m) is a managed hut owned by the German Alpine Club in the Wetterstein Mountains of Bavaria, in the district of Garmisch-Partenkirchen. The hut lies in a narrow defile between the Höllental-Blassen and Waxenstein-Riffelwand crest and is open from the end of May to mid-October. It has more than 80 bedspaces. Its predecessor, with 80 bedspaces, was demolished in September 2013 in order to make way for an entirely new hut. It was built in 2014/15 and opened on 23 August 2015.
