The New School is a private research university in New York City. It was founded in 1919 as The New School for Social Research with an original mission dedicated to academic freedom and intellectual inquiry and a home for progressive thinkers. Since then, the school has grown to house five divisions within the university. These include the Parsons School of Design, the Eugene Lang College of Liberal Arts, the College of Performing Arts, which includes the Mannes School of Music, The New School for Social Research, and the Schools of Public Engagement. In addition, the university maintains the Parsons Paris campus and has also launched or housed a range of institutions, such as the international research institute World Policy Institute, the Vera List Center for Art and Politics, the India China Institute, the Observatory on Latin America, and the Center for New York City Affairs. It is classified among "R2: Doctoral Universities – High research activity". Approximately 10,000 students are enrolled in undergraduate and postgraduate programs and disciplines including design, music, fine arts, liberal arts, humanities, social sciences, architecture, drama, psychology, and public policy. The vast majority, over 70 percent of all students enrolled in university are in the creative areas of design, performing, and fine arts.

The Schools of Public Engagement at The New School is one of five academic divisions that compose The New School, a private research university located in the Greenwich Village neighborhood in New York City. It includes the Bachelor's Program for Adults and Transfer Students, the Milano School of Policy, Management and Environment, the School of Media Studies, the Julien J. Studley Graduate Programs in International Affairs, and the Creative Writing Program.

College of Performing Arts, is part of The New School, New York City, NY. The New School announced its establishment in fall of 2015 as a major rebranding of certain arts schools the school had. The measure combining the music, jazz and drama schools into a College of Performing Arts.The New School also announced the relocation of most of the performing arts it ran to Arnhold Hall at 55 West 13th St., where the School of Jazz had occupied two floors since 1986.

The École Libre des Hautes Études (lit. ‘Free School for Advanced Studies’) was a "university-in-exile" for French academics in New York during the Second World War. It was chartered by the French (the Free French) and Belgian governments-in-exile and located at the New School for Social Research. Its founders included Jean Wahl, Jacques Maritain, and Gustave Cohen, and it was supported by the Rockefeller Foundation.The philosopher Jacques Maritain, anthropologist Claude Lévi-Strauss, historian Elias Bickerman, and linguist Roman Jakobson all taught at the École Libre. According to Louis Menand, in "The Free World (p. 203)" it was started in 1942 through the efforts of Alvin Johnson, co-founder and director of the New School.

Grammar School No. 35, also known as the "Thirteenth Street School" or "Ward School No. 35" was a public school on 60 West Thirteenth Street in Manhattan, New York City. It was known as one of the largest and most prestigious public schools for boys in New York City.

Eugene Lang College of Liberal Arts, commonly referred to as Lang, is the seminar-style, undergraduate, liberal arts college of The New School. It is located on-campus in Greenwich Village in New York City on West 11th Street off 6th Avenue.

The Raymond Fogelman Social Sciences and Humanities Library is the flagship library of The New School university. It is located at 55 West 13th Street, in New York City's Greenwich Village.

School of Jazz and Contemporary Music at The New School is the second conservatory of The New School university. It is located on West 13th Street in New York City's Greenwich Village neighborhood. It was known as The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music before it was rebranded as School of Jazz and Contemporary Music and becoming part of College of Performing Arts at The New School in 2016.

The Quad Cinema is New York City's first small four-screen multiplex theater. Located at 34 West 13th Street in Greenwich Village, it was opened by entrepreneur Maurice Kanbar, along with his younger brother Elliott S. Kanbar in October 1972. It has been described as "one of the oldest independent cinemas in the city" and "a vibrant center for art house films."

The Old Grapevine was a tavern in the Greenwich Village neighborhood of New York City at the southeast corner of Sixth Avenue and 11th Street. The tavern was located in a three-story roadhouse built in the 18th century and was originally called the Hawthorne. It was later named after a grapevine that grew on one of its walls. It was a hangout for artists, actors, businessmen, lawyers, Confederate spies, and Union officers. The high concentration of Civil War Soldiers made it an ideal place to hear (or plant) military gossip, leading some to believe the idiom "heard it through the grapevine" originated here.The nearby Jefferson Market Courthouse attracted many politicians including U.S. President Chester A. Arthur who visited the tavern many times. It was demolished in 1915.

La Tulipe was a French restaurant in Manhattan owned and run by chef Sally Darr. It was located in Greenwich Village from 1979 to 1991. The restaurant served classic French cuisine and nouvelle cuisine, and was often referred to as a bistro. Though small and intimate, the restaurant proved influential, and after Mimi Sheraton awarded it three stars in The New York Times six weeks after it opened, it was favored by chefs such as Julia Child, James Beard, and Jacques Pépin.

Evolve USA is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that advocates for gun safety. In contrast to many groups involved in gun politics in the United States, Evolve focuses on individual, voluntary actions to prevent accidental shootings. It was founded in 2013, after the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.In 2015 they ran an ad campaign that caught media attention for its humour, using "hilarious social faux pas to illustrate the danger of keeping guns in the house."
