Millers Creek Christian School

The school's enrollment is typically around 700 students. The school's district includes the western communities of Wilkes County, including Millers Creek, Cricket, Mount Pleasant, Parsonsville, and Wilbar. The current principal is Mrs. Amanda Pruitt and assistant principal is Dan Prouty. On October 17, 2011 former President Barack Obama visited West Wilkes and gave a speech in the school gymnasium as part of his North Carolina, Virginia bus tour promoting the American Jobs Act.

Federal Building, also known as the Wilkes County Board of Education Building, is a historic government building located at Wilkesboro, Wilkes County, North Carolina. It was designed by the Office of the Supervising Architect under James A. Wetmore and built in 1915. It is a five-part brick building in the Federal Revival style. It consists of a two-story, three-bay central section, flanked by one-story entrances, which are in turn flanked by one-story wings. The post office was located in the west wing. The building features terra cotta decorative elements.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.

McGrady consists of numerous valleys with creeks and streams, lower mountain ridges, farms, and forests. The largest stream in the community is Mulberry Creek, which flows south to the Yadkin River, Wilkes County's largest river.

The Dark Sky Observatory (DSO) is an astronomical observatory owned and operated by Appalachian State University (ASU). It is located 9 kilometers (5.6 mi) east of Deep Gap, North Carolina (USA), off of the Blue Ridge Parkway, and 32 kilometers (20 mi) east of the ASU campus in Boone, North Carolina It was established in 1981, and is used for research, instruction, and public viewing events. The Cline Visitors' Center was completed in 2011.
