Ampton

Ampton Hall is a Grade II-listed Jacobean style manor house in Ampton, Suffolk, England. Ampton Hall was the birthplace in 1805 of Robert FitzRoy, who became the second Governor of New Zealand. It later belonged to the Paley family: John Paley (1839-1894) was High Sheriff of Suffolk for 1889–90 and his son George Arthur Paley (1874-1941) High Sheriff in 1906–07.The Hall was destroyed by fire on 3 January 1885 and re-built in 1892 by Eustace Balfour and Hugh Thackeray Turner of London. It has gardens designed by Capability Brown and a lake.During the First World War, the house was used as an auxiliary hospital.The property was acquired by Sir Pierce Lacy, Bt., a stockbroker, who was appointed High Sheriff of Suffolk for 1927–28. When he died in 1956 the contents of the house were sold at auction.

Little Livermere is a village and civil parish in England situated about 5 miles (8 km) north of Bury St Edmunds, in an area of Suffolk known as the Breckland. The population at the 2011 Census is included in the civil parish of Ampton. In 1688 the Rector, James Paston, published a 39 page pamphlet supporting the repeal of the penal laws.The village was almost entirely demolished in the 18th century when a park and mere were created in the grounds of the stately home, Livermere Hall, which was itself destroyed in 1923. Livermere Hall is thought to be the setting M.R. James had in mind for Castringham Hall in his ghost story "The Ash-tree", published in Ghost Stories of an Antiquary in 1904. James was the son of the Rector of nearby Great Livermere. All that remains of the village is the much decayed Church of St Peter and St Paul, which is roofless and considered unsafe, and a farmhouse that stands adjacent to the church on the edge of Ampton Water.

Ingham railway station was a railway station in Ingham, Suffolk which was located was on the route between Thetford and Bury St Edmunds.

Ingham is a village and civil parish in the West Suffolk district of Suffolk in eastern England, located about six miles north of Bury St Edmunds on the A143 to Thetford in Norfolk. The village boasts a single church, post office and a pub, the Cadogan Arms which was refurbished in 2006. Ingham is mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086. Possible etymologies are "homestead or village of a man called Inga" or "home of the Inguiones" (an ancient Germanic tribe). The Church is dedicated to St. Bartholomew and is Church of England. The post office provides some local library links. The village school was a one-room school serving the small class of all grades. It closed in the mid 1980s as a result of declining numbers, despite the expansion of the village with the new housing estate in the 1960s and 1970s. Locals are mainly employed in Bury St Edmunds or Thetford, commuting to work, though some work locally in agriculture or transport industries. Situated on a slight rise north of Bury St Edmunds the village has a large green, formerly including school playing fields to the east of the main road reached by a lane between the Church and the Post Office. Beyond the green lies the abandoned railway cutting - the line and Ingham railway station closed in the 1950s, though Ingham is still served by buses. Thetford Forest lies a few miles to the north west.

Timworth is a village and civil parish 65 mi (105 km) north east of London and 26 mi (42 km) east of Cambridge in the West Suffolk district of Suffolk in eastern England. Located around two miles north of Bury St Edmunds, its 2005 population was 50. At the 2011 Census the appropriate Postal Code (IP31 1HS) showed the population as being included in Ampton.

Seven Hills Halt railway station was a railway station in Suffolk, England on the branch line between Thetford and Bury St Edmunds. It was closed in 1953, along with the rest of the branch.

Great Livermere is a village and civil parish in the West Suffolk district of Suffolk in eastern England. It is located around four miles north-east of the borough's largest town Bury St Edmunds. Great Livermere also has a village hall located six miles from Bury St Edmunds, where meetings and other functions are often held for the village. Great Livermere has a small population of 226, according to the 2011 census; there are 103 males and 123 females recorded. As seen from the population graph, the population of the village has fluctuated rapidly; from 1850 to 1950 the population decreased rapidly, however since the 1950s the population has steadily risen.

Elm Road Field, Thetford is a 5-hectare (12-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest on the southern outskirts of Thetford in Norfolk.This area of open space has grassland with a rich flora. There are a number of uncommon plants, including the nationally endangered field wormwood and the nationally scarce sickle medick and tower mustard. There are two mature scots pine hedges.There is access from Laburnum Grove and Barnham Cross Common.

Fornham St Genevieve is a village and civil parish in the West Suffolk district of Suffolk in eastern England. It is one of a trio of contiguous villages by the River Lark. The other villages are Fornham All Saints and Fornham St Martin.

Fornham St Martin is a village and civil parish in the West Suffolk district of Suffolk in eastern England. Located on the northern outskirts of Bury St Edmunds off east and west from the A134, in 2005 its population was 1300. Its parish council is shared with neighbouring Fornham St Genevieve, and is known as Fornham St Martin cum St Genevieve Parish Council. Fornham St Martin is one of a trio of contiguous villages by the River Lark. The other villages are Fornham St Genevieve and Fornham All Saints. Near the current Lark Valley Drive, a smock windmill used to stand. It collapsed in 1927.The village has one public house, the Woolpack, but no shops. Its school closed in the early 1950s.

Culford is a village and civil parish about 4 miles (6 km) north of Bury St Edmunds and 62 miles (100 km) north east of London in the West Suffolk district of Suffolk, England. According to the 2011 Census the parish had a population of 578, a decrease from 620 recorded at the 2001 census.A tributary of the River Lark, known as Culford Stream, flows through the centre of the village being fed from Ampton Water in Great Livermere. It continues Westward into West Stow before joining the River Lark at Clough Staunch on the edge of Lackford Lakes.The main village developed along a straight road called "The Street" and there are also some smaller residential areas in Culford, like Benyon gardens, a complex of cul-de-sacs. Most of the houses in central Culford date from the second half of the 1800s and were built as part of the Culford Estate while those at the edges of the village are post-war and later. The centre of the village, along with the Park, and most of West Stow is a conservation area which was established on 4 December 1997. The village also encompasses the hamlets of Culford Heath and Chimney Mills. Culford is home to Culford School, a public school and a member of the Methodist Schools Foundation. The school occupies a former stately home in Culford Park, rebuilt in 1796 for the Cornwallis family.
