Fornham St Genevieve

Fornham St Martin is a village and civil parish in the West Suffolk district of Suffolk in eastern England. Located on the northern outskirts of Bury St Edmunds off east and west from the A134, in 2005 its population was 1300. Its parish council is shared with neighbouring Fornham St Genevieve, and is known as Fornham St Martin cum St Genevieve Parish Council. Fornham St Martin is one of a trio of contiguous villages by the River Lark. The other villages are Fornham St Genevieve and Fornham All Saints. Near the current Lark Valley Drive, a smock windmill used to stand. It collapsed in 1927.The village has one public house, the Woolpack, but no shops. Its school closed in the early 1950s.

Fornham Hall was a large 18th-century country house near Bury St Edmunds. It was demolished in 1957. The Estate included manorial land is part of the parish of Fornham St Genevieve.

Fornham All Saints is a village and civil parish in Suffolk, England in the West Suffolk district. It is north-northwest of the town of Bury St Edmunds and 500m west of Fornham St Genevieve. Fornham All Saints is one of a trio of contiguous villages by the River Lark. The other villages are Fornham St Genevieve and Fornham St Martin. The village sign depicts a helmet and crossed swords commemorating two battles that took place here. In c902 King Edward the Elder fought off his cousin, Æthelwold ætheling, to retain the English crown. In 1173 Henry II defeated the Earl of Leicester and a Flemish army at the Battle of Fornham. Today the historic village is more peaceful. It appears on John Speed's 1610 map as "Fernham omnium Sanctorum". There's evidence of a small prehistoric or Roman settlement near Pigeon Lane, with as many as four hut circles. Prehistoric causeway and trenches on the river terrace remain only as cropmarks but were described by Suffolk County Council as "major Neolithic ritual monuments."The journalist and author Harold Begbie was born in Fornham, St. Martin, in 1871. The Three Kings pub, offering food and accommodation, is on the western outskirts of the village, at the junction of the A1101 and B1106. The church of All Saints, the parish church of Fornham All Saints, is a Grade I listed building. Surviving parts of the church from the twelfth to fifteenth centuries have been heavily restored during the Victorian period 1863-4. The south doorway dates from the twelfth century and the south porch from the fifteenth century. There is fifteenth century wood carving in the form of roof bosses and also 8 pairs of fifteenth century benches displaying animals on the armrests and a poppy head design. The south aisle roof is a nineteenth century restoration. There is a war memorial in the village in the form of a Latin cross of Portland stone. It commemorates the 13 people killed in the World Wars of the twentieth century. 12 people died in the First World War, and one died in the Second World War. The details of those who served in those two wars are to be found in the parish church Rolls of Honour displayed there. 74 village men served in the First World War; 33 men and 9 women served in the Second World War. The photographs and personal details of the war dead are displayed in the parish church's Debt of Honour Register.

St Benedict's Catholic School is a coeducational Roman Catholic secondary school and sixth form in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, England. Opened in 1967, the school has around 900 students.St Benedict's was a Mathematics and Computing Specialist School. Whilst the school is based in Bury St. Edmunds, many of its students travel from a wide area, including Haverhill, Thetford, Sudbury, Stowmarket, Newmarket and other surrounding villages and towns, because it is the only Catholic secondary school in the vicinity. Previously a voluntary aided school administered by Suffolk County Council, in September 2022 St Benedict's Catholic School converted to academy status. The school is now sponsored by the Our Lady of Walsingham Catholic Trust, and continues to be under the jurisdiction of the Roman Catholic Diocese of East Anglia.

Timworth is a village and civil parish 65 mi (105 km) north east of London and 26 mi (42 km) east of Cambridge in the West Suffolk district of Suffolk in eastern England. Located around two miles north of Bury St Edmunds, its 2005 population was 50. At the 2011 Census the appropriate Postal Code (IP31 1HS) showed the population as being included in Ampton.

Bury St Edmunds County High School, previously Bury St Edmunds County Upper School, is a 13 to 19 co-educational comprehensive part of the Bury St Edmunds All-Through Trust, comprising County High School, Horringer Court School, Westley School and Barrow CEVC and Tollgate Primaries.It is one of three 13-18 schools serving the town of Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk, England and its surrounding villages. Pupils enter Year 9 primarily from three catchment middle schools in Bury St Edmunds but pupils are drawn widely from across the villages and towns of West Suffolk. The school is often over-subscribed with 266 first-choice applicants in 2009/10, 287 in 2010/11, 282 for 2011/12, 279 for 2012/13 and 268 for 2014/15 against a LEA Planned Admission Number of 260.Attached to the main school is a Sixth Form, which at present stands at around 209 students spread between Years 12 and 13. The school is located on Beetons Way, on the outskirts of town, next to St Benedict's Roman Catholic Upper School, with which it used to collaborate in the sixth form. County High School has specialisms in science and languages with an Able and Talented Focus, and is also accredited as a "Consultant School" by the Specialist Schools and Academies TrustTogether with Westley School, part of the Bury St Edmunds All-Through Trust, it is the Area Hub for West Suffolk and East Cambridgeshire for the Computing at School Network of Excellence as part of the joint effort by the BCS, Chartered Institute for IT and the Computing Industry to provide leadership and strategic guidance to all those involved in Computing education in schools. The school is accredited with the National College for School Leadership as a Teaching School and is part of the West Suffolk All-Through Teaching School Alliance, to train and develop teachers from September 2013 and it is also the lead Suffolk school in the Suffolk and Norfolk Initial Teacher Training (SNITT) initiative, in partnership with Suffolk County Council and University College Suffolk, which is part of the Department for Education's School Direct Training Programme.In 2019, the school received an 'inadequate' inspection from Ofsted.In 2023 due to the reorganization of four schools in Bury St Edmunds, the name of Bury St Edmunds County Upper School was changed to Bury St Edmunds County High School

Culford is a village and civil parish about 4 miles (6 km) north of Bury St Edmunds and 62 miles (100 km) north east of London in the West Suffolk district of Suffolk, England. According to the 2011 Census the parish had a population of 578, a decrease from 620 recorded at the 2001 census.A tributary of the River Lark, known as Culford Stream, flows through the centre of the village being fed from Ampton Water in Great Livermere. It continues Westward into West Stow before joining the River Lark at Clough Staunch on the edge of Lackford Lakes.The main village developed along a straight road called "The Street" and there are also some smaller residential areas in Culford, like Benyon gardens, a complex of cul-de-sacs. Most of the houses in central Culford date from the second half of the 1800s and were built as part of the Culford Estate while those at the edges of the village are post-war and later. The centre of the village, along with the Park, and most of West Stow is a conservation area which was established on 4 December 1997. The village also encompasses the hamlets of Culford Heath and Chimney Mills. Culford is home to Culford School, a public school and a member of the Methodist Schools Foundation. The school occupies a former stately home in Culford Park, rebuilt in 1796 for the Cornwallis family.

King Edward VI School is a co-educational comprehensive secondary school in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, England. The school in its present form was created in 1972 by the merging of King Edward VI Grammar School, with the Silver Jubilee Girls School and the Silver Jubilee Boys School (founded 1935). The school occupies the site of the former Silver Jubilee schools in Grove Road, Bury St Edmunds.

Ingham is a village and civil parish in the West Suffolk district of Suffolk in eastern England, located about six miles north of Bury St Edmunds on the A143 to Thetford in Norfolk. The village boasts a single church, post office and a pub, the Cadogan Arms which was refurbished in 2006. Ingham is mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086. Possible etymologies are "homestead or village of a man called Inga" or "home of the Inguiones" (an ancient Germanic tribe). The Church is dedicated to St. Bartholomew and is Church of England. The post office provides some local library links. The village school was a one-room school serving the small class of all grades. It closed in the mid 1980s as a result of declining numbers, despite the expansion of the village with the new housing estate in the 1960s and 1970s. Locals are mainly employed in Bury St Edmunds or Thetford, commuting to work, though some work locally in agriculture or transport industries. Situated on a slight rise north of Bury St Edmunds the village has a large green, formerly including school playing fields to the east of the main road reached by a lane between the Church and the Post Office. Beyond the green lies the abandoned railway cutting - the line and Ingham railway station closed in the 1950s, though Ingham is still served by buses. Thetford Forest lies a few miles to the north west.

The Old Cannon Brewery is a brewpub in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, UK. They have a roster of regular cask ales that are produced year round, as well as several popular seasonal beers that are produced at certain times of the year. It is one of two breweries in Bury St Edmunds, the other being the Greene King Brewery.

West Suffolk was an administrative county of England created in 1889 from part of the county of Suffolk. It survived until 1974 when it was rejoined with East Suffolk. Its county town was Bury St Edmunds. Before the introduction of county councils, Suffolk had been divided into eastern and western divisions, each with their own quarter sessions. The western division corresponded to the Liberty of Saint Edmund. This area had been established by Edward the Confessor in 1044 and was a separate jurisdiction under the control of the abbot of Bury St Edmunds Abbey until the dissolution of the monasteries.This history was reflected in the coat of arms of the county council. The council initially adopted the attributed arms of Edward the Confessor: a cross patonce between five martlets. When the council received an official grant of arms from the College of Arms in 1959, abbots' mitres and the emblem of St Edmund: crossed arrows through an open crown were added. The motto adopted was For King, Law and People, referring to the association of Magna Carta with Bury.Shortly before its abolition the West Suffolk County Council commissioned Elisabeth Frink to sculpt a statue of St Edmund to commemorate the end of 970 years of independent administration of the area. The statue, in the grounds of the abbey of Bury St Edmunds, was completed in 1976.
