1990 U.S. Women's Open

The 2021 KPMG Women's PGA Championship was the 67th Women's PGA Championship, played June 24–27 at Atlanta Athletic Club in Johns Creek, Georgia. Known as the LPGA Championship through 2014, it was the third of five major championships on the LPGA Tour during the 2021 season. The championship was won by Nelly Korda with an aggregate of 269, which was a tournament record tying to-par total of 19 under. She finished three strokes ahead of runner-up Lizette Salas, and a further six strokes ahead of Kim Hyo-joo and Giulia Molinaro, who tied for third place.

The Women's PGA Championship (branded as the KPMG Women's PGA Championship for sponsorship reasons) is a women's professional golf tournament. First held in 1955, it is one of five majors on the LPGA Tour. It is not recognized as a major by the Ladies European Tour, which does not recognize any of the three majors played in the United States. Formerly known as the LPGA Championship, the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) announced in 2014 that the PGA of America would become a partner of the event, and that it would be renamed the Women's PGA Championship beginning in 2015—becoming a sister event to the men's PGA Championship (in a similar manner to the U.S. Women's Open being a sister event to the men's U.S. Open). The partnership included a new title sponsorship agreement with KPMG, an increase in purse, and a commitment by NBC to provide network television coverage of the weekend rounds.The PGA of America partnership also allowed the tournament to be held at various top courses around the United States. Previously, the LPGA Championship had been usually held at a consistent location each year, most recently near Rochester, New York as part of a title sponsorship agreement with Western New York–based supermarket chain Wegmans.

The 1981 PGA Championship was the 63rd PGA Championship, held August 6–9 at Atlanta Athletic Club in Duluth, Georgia, a suburb northeast of Atlanta. Larry Nelson won the first of his three major titles, four strokes ahead of runner-up Fuzzy Zoeller.Lee Trevino, 1974 champion, did not sign his scorecard after an opening round 74 and was disqualified after turning himself in. Bob Murphy led after each of the first two rounds, but was 8-over on the weekend and finished ten strokes back in 18th place. After a second consecutive 66 on Saturday, Nelson held the 54-hole lead, four strokes ahead of ZoellerTom Watson was the PGA Tour money list leader in August 1981, but missed the cut by a stroke.It was the second major held at the Highlands Course, which hosted the U.S. Open in 1976. The PGA Championship returned in 2001 and 2011.

The 2011 PGA Championship was the 93rd PGA Championship, held August 11–14, 2011 at the Atlanta Athletic Club in Johns Creek, Georgia, a suburb northeast of Atlanta. Keegan Bradley won his only major championship in a three-hole playoff over Jason Dufner on the Highlands Course; Dufner won the title two years later. Television coverage was provided in the United States by CBS and TNT, and in the United Kingdom by Sky Sports.

The 2001 PGA Championship was the 83rd PGA Championship, held August 16–19 at the Atlanta Athletic Club in Duluth, Georgia, a suburb northeast of Atlanta. David Toms won his only major championship, one stroke ahead of runner-up Phil Mickelson. Toms led after 54 holes on the Highlands Course, two strokes ahead of Mickelson. Paired together in the final group, they battled for the lead back-and-forth throughout the day, both in pursuit of their first major. Toms led by one stroke on the 72nd tee, but put his tee shot in the rough. Faced with a long second shot over water, he decided to lay up on the 490-yard (448 m) par-4 and rely on his short game. Toms' third shot stopped 12 feet (3.7 m) left of the pin, and he sank the putt to save par for the win. His 265 total set the record for the lowest score at a major championship.Two-time defending champion Tiger Woods finished 14 strokes back at 279 (−1), tied for 29th place. No former champions finished in the top twenty. It was the third major at the Highlands Course, which hosted the PGA Championship in 1981 and the U.S. Open in 1976. All three victors were from the Deep South of the United States. The PGA Championship returned to the course in 2011.

The 1976 U.S. Open was the 76th U.S. Open, held June 17–20 at the Highlands Course of the Atlanta Athletic Club in Duluth, Georgia, a suburb northeast of Atlanta. Tour rookie Jerry Pate won his only major championship, two strokes ahead of runners-up Al Geiberger and Tom Weiskopf.John Mahaffey, who lost the U.S. Open in a playoff the year before, took the lead with a 68 in the second round. He followed that up with a 69 in the third round on Saturday for a two-stroke lead over Jerry Pate after 54 holes, with Geiberger three back and Weiskopf four back. The gap was still two strokes after fourteen holes, but Pate hit a one-iron close and birdied the par-3 15th; and when Mahaffey bogeyed 16, the two were tied. Mahaffey three-putted for bogey on 17 and Pate took a one-stroke lead as Mahaffey fell into a tie for second with Geiberger and Weiskopf, both in the clubhouse with 279. Both Mahaffey and Pate found the rough off the 18th tee. Mahaffey, behind by a shot and trying for birdie, hit his approach shot into the water fronting the green and made bogey, and fell into a tie for fourth. Having a better lie in the rough, Pate gambled that he could clear the water and then hit one of the most memorable shots in U.S. Open history. His 5-iron approach from 191 yards (175 m) flew directly on to the green and stopped three feet (0.9 m) from the hole, and he made the birdie putt for a two-stroke victory.The U.S. Amateur champion two years earlier in 1974, Pate was only 22 in 1976 and appeared to have a bright future ahead of him, but shoulder injuries significantly shortened his career. He won seven more PGA Tour tournaments, the last in 1982, and finished runner-up in two additional majors in the late 1970s. Future champion Fuzzy Zoeller made his major championship debut at this U.S. Open and finished in 38th place. Mike Reid, a 21-year-old amateur, led by three shots after the first round, but a second-round 81 dashed any hope of an amateur champion. He shared low-amateur honors with John Fought at 300 (+20). Jack Nicklaus finished tied for eleventh and saw his streak of 13 consecutive top-10s in majors come to an end. He began a new streak and finished in the top-10 in the next nine majors. Only Harry Vardon made more consecutive major top-10s when he made sixteen in a row – fifteen Open Championships (1894–1908) and the U.S. Open in 1900. This was the first of four majors held at the Highlands Course; it hosted the PGA Championship in 1981, 2001, and 2011. This was the first year that players were allowed to have their own caddies at the U.S. Open. The other majors and some PGA Tour events had traditionally disallowed players from using their own caddies. The Masters required club caddies from Augusta National through 1982.

Atlanta Athletic Club (AAC), founded in 1898, is a private country club in Johns Creek, Georgia, a suburb 23 miles north of Atlanta. The original home of the club was a 10-story building located on Carnegie Way, and in 1904 a golf course was built on Atlanta's East Lake property. In 1908, John Heisman (the Georgia Tech football coach for whom the Heisman Trophy was named) was hired as the AAC athletic director. While it was downtown, its team placed third in the 1921 Amateur Athletic Union National Basketball Championship defeating Lowe and Campbell Athletic Goods 36–31 in the third place game. At the time colleges, athletic clubs and factory-sponsored clubs all competed in the same league. It built 3 9-hole golf courses in 1967, in a then-unincorporated area of Fulton County that had a Duluth mailing address and would eventually become Johns Creek in 2006. In 1968, the AAC sold the East Lake property. The vacated East Lake site became East Lake Golf Club and was refurbished during the 1990s. It is now the home of The Tour Championship, currently the final event of the PGA Tour golf season. AAC hosted the 1950 U.S. Women's Amateur and 1963 Ryder Cup at East Lake, the 1976 U.S. Open, the 1981, 2001 and 2011 PGA Championships, and the 2021 KPMG PGA Women's Championship on its Highlands Course, and the 1990 U.S. Women's Open on its Riverside Course. The AAC used both of its current regulation courses to host the 2014 U.S. Amateur, with stroke-play qualifying on the Riverside and Highlands Courses and match play on the Highlands Course. The Riverside course, renovated by Rees Jones in 2002, was recognized among the top 10 new private courses in 2004 by Golf Digest. It as renovated again in 2022 by Tripp Davis. AAC has hosted many non-golf events including the first two Southeastern Conference men's basketball tournaments in 1933 and 1934. In 1984 and 1985, AAC hosted the U.S. Open Badminton Championship. During the 1990s, AAC hosted the AT&T Challenge, Atlanta's ATP professional tennis stop. AAC has two 18-hole golf courses, a fitness center, indoor and outdoor tennis, a par-3 course, Olympic-sized pool, as well as dining. Famous members of AAC include golfers Bobby Jones, Charlie Yates, Alexa Stirling, Watts Gunn, Dot Kirby, and Tommy Barnes; tennis players Nat Thornton and Bitsy Grant; and basketball player Bob Kurland. In the 2004 film Bobby Jones: Stroke of Genius, many of the golf scenes were filmed at AAC.

Perimeter Church is a megachurch in Johns Creek, Georgia. It is affiliated with the Presbyterian Church in America, and has approximately between 4,000-5,000 members. The church was founded by Rev. Randy Pope. He is currently the President of Life on Life Ministries, and is the author of four books including "Insourcing: Bringing Discipleship Back to the Local Church" and a discipleship curriculum used globally entitled "The Journey". In September of 2019, the role of lead teacher and directional leader transitioned to Jeff Norris.

Johns Creek High School is a public high school in Johns Creek, Georgia, United States, serving grades 9–12. The school is a part of the Fulton County School System. Its students primarily reside inside the city of Johns Creek, though the school also serves part of Alpharetta. Students from Autrey Mill Middle School attend Johns Creek. The school was opened in the fall of 2009 and as of 2017 has an enrollment around 2,076.In 2013, Johns Creek was ranked by Newsweek as one of America's best public high schools, #214 in the nation, #5 in the State of Georgia and #2 in Fulton County. As of 2019, Johns Creek High School has 2,142 students enrolled: 44 percent of which are minority students. The student-to-teacher ratio is 20:1. It is ranked 397th nationally, 15th in the state of Georgia, and 5th in Fulton County. The schools boasts of a high 97 percent graduation rate. The school's mascot is the Gladiator.

Dean Gardens was one of the largest homes in metropolitan Atlanta, Georgia. At the time of its completion in 1992, the 32,000 square foot, 15 bedroom house was the largest in Atlanta. The former owner, Larry Dean, who made his fortune in software, spent $30 million on its construction, plus $1.5 million a year on its upkeep.The 58-acre property then became a boondoggle of failed construction efforts, wasted resources and a chain of owners.

Notre Dame Academy is a Pre-K through 12 Catholic school in Duluth, Georgia. It is operated independently from the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Atlanta. It was established in 2005. Previously it was a PK–8 school. The groundbreaking for the high school building, on a 21-acre (8.5 ha) plot, occurred in 2014. High school classes began in fall 2015.Another private school that focused on students with learning disabilities, Sophia Academy, merged into Notre Dame, effective August 2017. The previous Sophia Academy campus closed, with operations moved to Notre Dame.

Johns Creek is a city in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. According to the 2020 census, the population was 82,453. The city is a northeastern suburb of Atlanta.
