Marxville, Wisconsin

The Friderich Kohlmann House is a stone farmhouse built by a German settler in 1867 in Berry, Wisconsin. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974 and on the State Register of Historic Places in 1989.Friederich Kohlmann immigrated from Germany to Wisconsin with his parents in 1847. His father was murdered shortly after their arrival. In 1850 Friederich married Elizabeth Setimann. Later he served in the Civil War. Before building this stone house they lived in a log cabin on the west end of Indian Lake.In 1867 they had the surviving house built, with stone carried in by Indians. It stands 2.5 stories tall, with walls of uncoursed fieldstone which Kohlmann original plastered over with a stucco-like finish. The windows have cut stone sills and lintels. The windows were originally flanked by wooden shutters and a narrow porch ran the length of the house, perhaps similar to the one recently added.Friederich helped found St. John's Evangelical Church in Roxbury. His descendants owned the house until 1974.The house is significant as a good example of the masonry built by German immigrants in the 1860s.

The Frederick Schumann Farmstead is a well-preserved saltbox-shaped stone farmhouse built by a German immigrant family in 1878 in Berry, Wisconsin. In 1993 it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Adam Dunlap Farmstead, built by a Yankee settler family, was one of the first farms in the Town of Mazomanie, Wisconsin. A number of the original structures, built around 1849 from stone quarried on the farm, are still intact. The farmstead was added to the State and the National Register of Historic Places in 2003, for being a relatively intact homestead of a progressive Yankee pioneer settler, and for the Greek Revival style of the stone farmhouse.

The John and Margarethe Kemp Cabin is a log cabin built in 1863 by a German immigrant pioneer family in the Town of Mazomanie, Wisconsin, United States. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2008.

The Wisconsin Heights Battlefield is an area in Dane County, Wisconsin, where the penultimate battle of the 1832 Black Hawk War occurred. The conflict was fought between the Illinois and Michigan Territory militias and Sauk chief Black Hawk and his band of warriors, who were fleeing their homeland following the Fox Wars. The Wisconsin Heights Battlefield is the only intact battle site from the Indian Wars in the U.S. Midwest. Today, the battlefield is managed and preserved by the state of Wisconsin as part of the Lower Wisconsin State Riverway. In 2002, it was listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.

The Battle of Wisconsin Heights was the penultimate engagement of the 1832 Black Hawk War, fought between the United States state militia and allies, and the Sauk and Fox tribes, led by Black Hawk. The battle took place in what is now Dane County, near present-day Sauk City, Wisconsin. Despite being vastly outnumbered and sustaining heavy casualties, Black Hawk's warriors managed to delay the combined government forces long enough to allow the majority of the Sauk and Fox civilians in the group to escape across the Wisconsin River. This reprieve was temporary; when the militia finally caught up with the fleeing band it resulted in the Bad Axe massacre at the mouth of the Bad Axe River.

Springfield Corners is an unincorporated community located in the town of Springfield, Dane County, Wisconsin, United States, at the intersection of County Highway P and US Highway 12. The town hall for the Town of Springfield is located in the community, along with a park, several businesses, several neighborhoods, and a small business park.

Cross Plains is a village in Dane County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 4,104 at the 2020 census. The village is located partially within the Town of Cross Plains. It is part of the Madison Metropolitan Statistical Area.

The Sauk City Fire Station, begun in 1862, housed the city's early fire department, and served as a center of the community. Today it is one of the oldest fire stations in Wisconsin. It looks much like it did in 1870 - a gable-roofed building with a hose-drying tower. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1999.
