Berry, Wisconsin

Marxville is an unincorporated community located in the town of Berry in Dane County, Wisconsin, United States. The community is named after the Marx family, who settled in the community in the 19th century. The Town of Berry newsletter wrote, "Marxville (formerly Halfway Prairie) served as the town's commercial center, boasting a store, several blacksmith shops and other establishments. Marxville is believed to be named after a German immigrant, Johann Marx, who, although not the area's first settler, was one of the largest landowners. The name is said to have been decided when the resourceful Mr. Marx showed up at the settlers' feast with a barrel of beer."

The Friderich Kohlmann House is a stone farmhouse built by a German settler in 1867 in Berry, Wisconsin. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974 and on the State Register of Historic Places in 1989.Friederich Kohlmann immigrated from Germany to Wisconsin with his parents in 1847. His father was murdered shortly after their arrival. In 1850 Friederich married Elizabeth Setimann. Later he served in the Civil War. Before building this stone house they lived in a log cabin on the west end of Indian Lake.In 1867 they had the surviving house built, with stone carried in by Indians. It stands 2.5 stories tall, with walls of uncoursed fieldstone which Kohlmann original plastered over with a stucco-like finish. The windows have cut stone sills and lintels. The windows were originally flanked by wooden shutters and a narrow porch ran the length of the house, perhaps similar to the one recently added.Friederich helped found St. John's Evangelical Church in Roxbury. His descendants owned the house until 1974.The house is significant as a good example of the masonry built by German immigrants in the 1860s.

The Frederick Schumann Farmstead is a well-preserved saltbox-shaped stone farmhouse built by a German immigrant family in 1878 in Berry, Wisconsin. In 1993 it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Pine Bluff Observatory (PBO) is an astronomical observatory located in the town of Cross Plains, Wisconsin (USA) about 24 kilometers (15 mi) west of Madison. PBO is owned and operated by the University of Wisconsin–Madison (UW-Madison). It opened in 1958, and is mainly used by students and faculty of UW-Madison for instruction and research. PBO also provides a facility for testing new instruments. Recent research conducted at PBO includes measuring the lunar sodium tail, monitoring circumstellar disks around Be stars, and studying the warm ionized medium.

The Adam Dunlap Farmstead, built by a Yankee settler family, was one of the first farms in the Town of Mazomanie, Wisconsin. A number of the original structures, built around 1849 from stone quarried on the farm, are still intact. The farmstead was added to the State and the National Register of Historic Places in 2003, for being a relatively intact homestead of a progressive Yankee pioneer settler, and for the Greek Revival style of the stone farmhouse.

Heiney's Meat Market, also known as Corodonn's Meat Market Restaurant, is a former meat market and adjacent house located in the town of Black Earth, Wisconsin. The initial house was built in 1869, with later additions, and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.
