Gwanghwamun Plaza

The Downtown Seoul (Korean: 서울 도심, 서울 도심부, 서울 시내) is traditional city center and central business district of Seoul, located through Gwanghwamun of Jongno District and Seoul Station of Jung District. For its time-honored and unique geographic status in Seoul, the Downtown is usually called as 'The Central Business District (CBD)', or somtimes as 'Gwanghwamun Business District (GBD)' for outstanding landmark 'Gwanghwamun' at the heart of it.

The Embassy of the United States in Seoul is the embassy of the United States in the Republic of Korea (South Korea), in the capital city of Seoul. The embassy is charged with diplomacy and South Korea–United States relations. The United States Ambassador to Korea is the head of the diplomatic mission of the United States to South Korea.

Gwanghwamun Station is a station on the Seoul Subway Line 5 in South Korea. It is not the closest subway station to the actual gate of Gwanghwamun, which it is named after. It is located next to the U.S. Embassy in Seoul. This station boasts the most traffic of all Line 5 stations.

South Korea's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) is in charge of the country's foreign relations, as well as handling matters related to overseas Korean nationals. It was established on 17 July 1948. Its main office is located in the MOFA Building in Jongno District, Seoul. The ministry previously had its headquarters in a facility in Doryeom-dong in Jongno District.

The Bureau of Interpreters or Sayŏgwŏn was an agency of the Joseon government of Korea from 1393 to 1894 responsible for training and supplying official interpreters. Textbooks for foreign languages produced by the Bureau aimed to accurate describe contemporary speech, and are thus valuable sources on the history of Korean and the various foreign languages.

Bigak is a pavilion near Gwanghwamun in central Seoul. The pavilion was built in 1902 to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Emperor Gojong’s coronation and his 50th birthday, as well as the founding in 1897 of the Korean Empire.

AlphaGo versus Lee Sedol, also known as the Google DeepMind Challenge Match, was a five-game Go match between top Go player Lee Sedol and AlphaGo, a computer Go program developed by Google DeepMind, played in Seoul, South Korea between 9 and 15 March 2016. AlphaGo won all but the fourth game; all games were won by resignation. The match has been compared with the historic chess match between Deep Blue and Garry Kasparov in 1997. The winner of the match was slated to win $1 million. Since AlphaGo won, Google DeepMind stated that the prize will be donated to charities, including UNICEF, and Go organisations. Lee received $170,000 ($150,000 for participating in the five games and an additional $20,000 for winning one game).After the match, The Korea Baduk Association awarded AlphaGo the highest Go grandmaster rank – an "honorary 9 dan". It was given in recognition of AlphaGo's "sincere efforts" to master Go. This match was chosen by Science as one of the Breakthrough of the Year runners-up on 22 December 2016.

The Central Government Complex, Sejong-no Seoul, Korea, is an area of office developments which are home to several Korean government agencies. The building was renamed from January 1, 2013 from Central Government Complex (정부중앙청사) to Government Seoul Complex (정부서울청사).

The Personal Information Protection Commission is national data protection authority of South Korea. It is formed as independent agency in year 2011 by 'Personal Information Protection Act(PIPA, Korean: 개인정보 보호법)', and is now located in Government Complex Seoul. The Commission is constituted with 9 commissioners and one of them is Chairperson, appointed by the President of South Korea.

Jongno (literally "Bell Street") is a trunk road and one of the oldest major east–west thoroughfares in Seoul, South Korea. Jongno connects Gwanghwamun Plaza to Dongdaemun. The area surrounding Jongno is a part of Downtown Seoul and one of the most prominent cultural, historical, and financial areas. Many important landmarks are located along its length, including the Bigak pavilion at Sejongno, the Bosingak belfry (hence the street's name), Tapgol Park (Pagoda Park), the Jongmyo royal ancestral shrine, and the Dongdaemun (Great East Gate). Seoul Subway Line 1 passes under Jongno. The western end of Jongno is serviced by Gwanghwamun Station (Seoul Subway Line 5), and Jongno 3-ga Station is serviced by Subway Lines 1, 3, and 5. Because of the multitude of shops, stores, and groceries along the area, the word "Jongno" is often used in the Korean language to express "Town Square."

Cheongjinok (Korean: 청진옥) is a historic Korean restaurant in Cheongjin-dong, Jongno District, Seoul, South Korea. It is the sixth-oldest active restaurant in Seoul, having been founded in 1937. It specializes in the hangover soup dish haejang-guk. In 2013, it was made a Seoul Future Heritage in recognition of its historical value and quality.

Ilmin Museum of Art is a private art museum of South Korea, located on Sejongno street in Jongno-gu, a central district of Seoul, known for exhibiting mainly Korean art. The museum was established and run by the Ilmin Cultural Foundation (일민문화재단), a non-profit organization founded in 1994 in memory of Kim Sang-man (김상만 金相万 1910 ~ 1994), former president of Dong-A Ilbo, one of the major newspaper companies of South Korea. Kim devoted his entire life to developing Korean journalism and promoting Korean culture. The museum is named after his pen name, "Ilmin" (일민 一民, literally "one people"). On December, 1996, the museum opened as Ilmin Art Hall with 3 exhibition rooms in Dong-a Ilbo's previous location, built in 1926. The museum is based on the art collection of Ilmin acquired during his time. After undergoing a one-year renovation, the museum reopened on February, 2002. The building has five stories and the 650 m² facility. Ilmin Museum of Art also runs the only documentary archive of South Korea.
