East Fork Carson River

The West Fork Carson River is a major tributary of the Carson River, about 35 miles (56 km) long, in Alpine County, California, and Douglas County, Nevada, in the United States. It rises in the Sierra Nevada of California, at Lost Lakes near Carson Pass in the Mokelumne Wilderness of Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest. It flows north into Hope Valley where it is joined by SR 88 (Carson Pass Highway), which closely follows the river as it travels toward Nevada. At the northern end of the valley it turns east, flowing through a gorge, before emerging from the mountains near Woodfords. From there it flows north, into the Carson Valley of Nevada, where it joins with the East Fork Carson River at Genoa to form the Carson River.

The Reese–Johnson–Virgin House is a historic Gothic Revival-style house at 193 Genoa Ln. in Genoa, Nevada. Also known as The Pink House, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2004.Deemed significant for its role in Genoa's history, it was built in approximately 1855 in carpenter Gothic style by carpenter Mark Gaige for John Reese, then later bought and moved (in 1870) by merchant J.R. Johnson, who painted it pink. It was later owned by judge D.W. Virgin. It has decorative bargeboards under its eaves and is topped by finials and other ornamentation.: 5 The house's architecture — both original and later modifications — demonstrates historical trends in the community, depicting the growing prosperity both of its owners and of the community.: 6 It is individually listed on the National Register in 2004, and also was included as a contributing building in the Genoa Historic District, NRHP-listed in 1975.

Mormon Station State Historic Park is a state park in downtown Genoa, Nevada, interpreting the site of the first permanent nonnative settlement in Nevada. Mormon Station was originally settled by Mormon pioneers and served as a respite for travelers on the Carson Route of the California Trail. The park features a replica of the 1851 trading post stockade (the original was destroyed by fire in 1910). The replica trading post houses artifacts and exhibits about the station's history.

Genoa is an unincorporated town in Douglas County, Nevada, United States. Founded in 1851, it was the first settlement in what became the Nevada Territory. It is situated within Carson River Valley and is approximately 42 miles (68 km) south of Reno. The population was 939 at the 2010 census. It is home to the oldest bar in the state of Nevada which opened in 1853.

Douglas High School (DHS) is a public secondary school in Minden, Nevada, U.S., in the Douglas County School District. The school has existed at a number of locations during its history, including the site of the current Carson Valley Middle School. It has been located on Highway 88 in Minden since 1976. In May 2014, the campus underwent a major remodel that lasted through the summer of 2015. The remodel reworked the entire front end of the school, adding a two-story Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (S.T.E.M.) building to the front of the campus.

Mottsville is an unincorporated community within the Humboldt–Toiyabe National Forest on the western edge of the Carson Valley in northwestern Douglas County, Nevada, United States. Mottsville is located at the junction of Nevada State Route 206 and Nevada State Route 207 3 miles (4.8 km) west-southwest of Minden.

Minden is a census-designated place (CDP) in Douglas County, Nevada, United States. The population was 3,001 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Douglas County and is adjacent to the town of Gardnerville. The Douglas campus of the Western Nevada College is located in Minden.

Daggett Pass is a road mountain pass located in the Sierra Nevada. It sits at an elevation of 7,343 ft (2,238 m) in Douglas County, Nevada, on the border between the Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit to the west and the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest to the east. The mountain pass is traversed by State Route 207.

Minden Elementary School, also known as Minden Grammar School, is a historic school building located at 1638 Mono Avenue in Minden, Nevada. The Renaissance Revival school was built in 1918 at a cost of $14,291. The school replaced the county's first school, a 1908 building known as the "little green schoolhouse". The school operated until it closed in 1980 and now serves as an office building for the Douglas County School District.The school was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2008, along with another Douglas County school, the Gardnerville Elementary School.

Paradise Airlines Flight 901A was a scheduled passenger flight from San Jose Municipal Airport to Tahoe Valley Airport in the United States. On March 1, 1964, the Lockheed L-049 Constellation serving the flight crashed near Genoa Peak, on the eastern side of Lake Tahoe during a heavy snowstorm, killing all 85 aboard and destroying the plane. After the crash site was located, the recovery of the wreckage and the bodies of the victims took most of a month. Crash investigators concluded that the primary cause of the accident was the pilot's decision to attempt to land at Tahoe Valley Airport when the visibility was too low due to clouds and snowstorms in the area. After aborting the landing attempt, the flight crew lost awareness of the plane's location as it flew below the minimum safe altitude in mountainous terrain. The pilot likely tried to fly through a low mountain pass in an attempt to divert to the airport in Reno, Nevada, and crashed into the left shoulder of the pass. At the time, it was the second-deadliest single-plane crash in United States history, and remains the worst accident involving the Lockheed L-049 Constellation. The airline involved was a two-year-old company that operated discount excursion flights from the San Francisco Bay Area to Lake Tahoe. After the accident, investigators from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) uncovered multiple safety violations by the company and grounded all of its flights. After an unsuccessful appeal by the company, the FAA revoked its operating certificate and Paradise Airlines permanently shut down.
