Sacombe

Sacombe Green is a hamlet located to the east of the village of Sacombe, in the East Hertfordshire district, in the county of Hertfordshire, England.

Dane End is a hamlet to the north of Ware in Hertfordshire, England situated between the A602 and A10. It is within Little Munden civil parish and East Hertfordshire District Council. It has a population of around 700. Dane End means the 'valley ends' and is located where a tributary of the River Lea comes off the surrounding chalk. Little Munden church and school are sited on the hill on the north side of Dane End.

Whempstead is a hamlet in the parish of Watton-at-Stone, situated north of Hertford and to the south-east of Stevenage in Hertfordshire, it is close to the villages of Benington and Dane End. The hamlet consists of approximately 15 houses and several farms. All of the surrounding landscape is given over to agriculture. In 1390 a chapel was built at Whempstead, dedicated to the honour of the Blessed Virgin. In 1548 there was a dissolution of the chapel as it was in decay, but some of the buildings survived to the late 1800s, situated at the present Chapel Farm. By 1749 the number of houses had grown to the extent that the hamlet was large enough to be visible on a map of Hertfordshire for the first time. There was a public house The Gate although this closed in the 1960s.

Tonwell is a small village in Bengeo Rural parish, Hertfordshire.The village is situated just off the A602 (formerly B1001), having been bypassed in 1987 - making the A10 and therefore London and Cambridge easily accessible by road. Tonwell has a population of about 300 persons, being included at the 2011 Census in the civil parish of Bengeo Rural. The demographic is similar to that of Hertfordshire itself, with a number of family properties as well as those more suited to elderly people. Near the village are Paynes Hall (south of the village by half a mile, where the A602 crosses the River Rib); Bengeo Temple farm; and the parkland at Sacombe (listed in the landscape character assessment as a rare and significant example of Victorian parkland.) Tonwell has close ties to the neighbouring hamlet of Chapmore End; the only other settlement in the parish. The two settlements have held combined events such as the village fete, and events in the village hall in Tonwell. Village amenities include a school (built in 1858), village hall, and the Robin Hood and Little John (free house) pub. The village shop and post office was closed by the owners in the 1980s and converted into a restaurant, now been converted into a self contained 1 bed flat and no longer a restaurant.. The nearest food stores or post office are situated in Hertford, Watton-at-Stone or Ware, some two to three miles away. There are footpaths from the village but in view of the distance, residents generally have to use their own cars, a taxi or the very infrequent bus service. The Church of St Mary's in Tonwell [CoE] adjoins the village school, and contains a Norman era font (relocated from St Nicholas' church in Hertford in about 1700). The church also contains wood panelling from the Houses of Parliament, which was installed in the church after the Second World War following bomb damage. In the 1990s, the church fell into disrepair, and eventually in the 2000s services were suspended. In 2005 the church was officially closed and renovated with the village school being extended into the church to cope with rising pupil numbers.

Little Munden Primary School is a Church of England voluntary controlled primary school in the village of Dane End, near Ware in Hertfordshire. It is a one-form entry school educating boys and girls aged between four and 11 years. There are four classes organised by age. The school roll varies but is generally between 85 and 100.

Woodhall Park is a Grade I listed country house near Watton-at-Stone, Hertfordshire, England. The 18th century neo-classical building is set in a walled park in the Beane valley. It has been the home of Heath Mount School since the 1930s.

Heath Mount School is a Church of England co-educational independent prep school near Watton-at-Stone, Hertfordshire, England. It admits pupils aged 3 to 13. It was founded as Heath Mount Academy in Hampstead in 1796. In 1934 it was relocated to a Georgian mansion on the Woodhall Estate in rural Hertfordshire. For the 2022 academic year, 498 students were enrolled: boarding pupils and day pupils and girls and boys.

Little Munden or Munden-Frewell or Munden Parva is a civil parish in the East Hertfordshire district, in the county of Hertfordshire, England. In 2011 the parish had a population of 952.The parish also includes the settlements of Dane End, Green End, Haultwick and Potter's Green. The Parish Church of All Saints is Grade I listed and was restored in the 19th century. There are 36 listed buildings in Little Munden.Little Munden was recorded in the Domesday Book as Mundane. The manor was held by Lewin before 1086.It is surrounded by farmland, which does contain some livestock which is a sight for people to enjoy while they visit. Little Munden CC is the parish’s only sport team.

Bengeo Rural is a civil parish in the East Hertfordshire district of Hertfordshire, England. According to the 2001 census it had a population of 601, increasing at the 2011 Census to 644. The parish includes the villages of Tonwell and Chapmore End. It originated as a split of the Bengeo parish in 1894 under the provisions of the Local Government Act, the remainder of which was amalgamated with Hertford Town Council.

Chapmore End is a hamlet in Bengeo Rural parish, Hertfordshire. At the 2011 Census the population of the hamlet was included in the town of Ware. The village consists of a few houses and a pub, the Woodman, and is situated just off the B158 approximately three miles north of Hertford. On the other side of the B158 in the Rib Valley is the former Hertford County Reformatory for boys, which was in operation between 1858 and 1981, and is now a private residential area known as Crouchfields. Chapmore End has close ties with the nearby village of Tonwell, where the former parish church is situated, along with the parish village hall. The two villages also hold combined events such as the village fete. The village association have their own web site.

Not to be confused with Stapleford, Nottinghamshire. Stapleford is a village and civil parish of 134 acres (54 ha) on the A119 road, in the East Hertfordshire district, in the county of Hertfordshire, England. Stapleford is located between Waterford and Watton-at-Stone in the Beane valley; the little river was forded at this point, giving rise to the village. Stapleford's parish church is St Mary's Church. Beane is a hamlet of Stapleford.

Downfield Pit is a 3.6-hectare (8.9-acre) geological Site of Special Scientific Interest near Ware in Hertfordshire. It is in the Geological Conservation Review in the Thames Pleistocene section, and the local planning authority is East Hertfordshire District Council.The site provides an example of the complex sequence of Pleistocene gravels and clays laid down by the River Thames when it flowed through the Vale of St Albans before the river was diverted south by the Anglian ice age around 450,000 years ago. Downfield Pit is a key site linking the Thames and East Anglia regions during the Middle Pleistocene.The site is now very degraded, but a borehole could establish the sequence of deposits. It is in two areas, both now within the Hanbury Manor Golf Course. The northern area is on a steeply sloping boundary of the course and the southern one is part of the course. They can be observed from Poles Lane.
