Union Avenue Opera (previously Union Avenue Opera Theatre) is an opera company based in St. Louis, Missouri. The company was founded in 1994 by Scott Schoonover, the music director of Union Avenue Christian Church, which serves as the company's venue in St. Louis' Visitation Park neighborhood.

Visitation Park is a neighborhood in St. Louis, Missouri. The neighborhood is defined by Maple Avenue on the North, Delmar Boulevard on the South, Union Boulevard on the East, and Belt Avenue on the West. Visitation Park is a small neighborhood nestled southeast of the West End neighborhood, just north of DeBaliviere Place.The Visitation Park neighborhood is named for the Visitation Academy of St. Louis, which was located at the southeast corner of Cabanne Avenue and Belt Avenue from 1892 to 1962. The Visitation Academy was razed in 1962 and the site became Visitation Park. In 1989, the park was renamed Ivory Perry Park.

The Show-Me Institute, or SMI, is an American think tank based in St. Louis, Missouri that promotes public policies that advance free market principles. Founded in 2005, the organization focuses on economic and good governance issues in the state of Missouri. The stated mission of the Show-Me Institute is "improving the quality of life for all citizens of Missouri by advancing sensible, well-researched solutions to state and local policy issues." The Institute opened a branch office in Kansas City in 2014.

Washington Terrace is a residential private place in St. Louis, Missouri, laid out circa 1892. The gate is south of Union and Delmar, within the bounds of the Central West End. A private place is a self-governing enclave whose common areas like streets and common gardens are owned by the residents, with services provided by the private sector, an experiment that foreshadowed the gated community in the U.S. by 100 years. About 50 of these enclaves once stood within the borders of the city of St. Louis. Most were designed by civil engineer Julius Pitzman between 1868 and 1905. Many of these developments, like Washington Terrace, are well-preserved and still gated, patrolled, and functioning as private enclaves. Pitzman laid out Washington Terrace with 50 lots and an imposing entry gate, a "French Norman Clock Tower" designed by Harvey Ellis and the architect George R. Mann. The styles of the mansions, many of them built in anticipation of the 1904 Louisiana Purchase Exposition and constructed atop substantial pedestals, range from Italian Renaissance, Richardsonian Romanesque and Tudor. Number 25 Washington Terrace, for instance, was the residence of Joseph W. Moon, of St. Louis's once-successful Moon Motor Car. Number 11 was the home of Julius Adler Baer, of Stix, Baer and Fuller.

Academy/Sherman Park is a neighborhood in North St. Louis, just outside Central West End. The official boundaries of the area are Dr. Martin Luther King Drive on the north, Delmar Boulevard on the south, North Kingshighway Boulevard on the east, and Union Boulevard on the west.As of 2020, there were 2,355 people residing in this neighborhood, which contained 1,276 housing units. The racial makeup of the neighborhood was 4.97% White, 87.26% Black, 1.10% Asian, 1.15% from some other race, and 5.27% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.29% of the population. Sally Benson grew up in the Academy neighborhood. She described her childhood in her novels that inspired the film Meet Me in St. Louis. The Benson house at 5135 Kensington Avenue no longer exists. After being sold, it fell into disrepair, eventually became uninhabitable, and was demolished in 1994.Tennessee Williams attended Soldan High School in the neighborhood and used it as a setting for his play The Glass Menagerie.

Central Technical Training Command is an inactive United States Air Force unit. It was assigned to the Army Air Forces Training Command, stationed at Saint Louis, Missouri. It was inactivated on 1 March 1944.

New City School is a non-sectarian, co-educational independent elementary school in St. Louis, Missouri. It was founded 1969 in the Central West End neighborhood. The New City student body is composed of 37% students of color. Its come from 48 different zip codes, and 40% of them receive need-based scholarships. New City School has 40 full-time and five part-time faculty members,

The Waterman Place-Kingsbury Place-Washington Terrace Historic District in St. Louis, Missouri is a historic district which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2007. The listing included 223 contributing buildings, four contributing structures, and a contributing site on 66.7 acres (27.0 ha). It also includes 15 non-contributing buildings and three non-contributing structures.It includes part or all of Washington Terrace (St. Louis), which is just one block long. The district is bounded by Union Boulevard, the alley south of Waterman Place, Belt Ave., the alley south of Kingsbury Place, Clara Ave., and the former alley line between Washington Terrace and Delmar. It includes works by architects Barnett, Haynes & Barnett and architect George W. Hellmuth. Of the contributing buildings, 97 are historic garages or carriage houses.Works involving George W. Hellmuth are: the one contributing site: a terraced garden at 14 Waterman Place (1909) which was created by Hellmuth & Spearing. 14 Waterman Place (1904), a two-story brown brick Colonial Revival house designed by G. Kingsbury Place is a private place neighborhood in St. Louis, Missouri that was founded in 1902. The land had been surveyed by Julius Pitzman, surveyor and planner, who had been the Chief Engineer for Forest Park and who was considered "the father of the private place" in the United States. Pitzman built his own house at #6 Kingsbury Place.The beaux-arts entry gates, #3, #7, and #11 were designed by Thomas P. Barnett of Barnett, Haynes & Barnett. Awakening of Spring the naked woman bronze on Union gate is by Clare Pfeifer Garrett. The neighborhood was designated a City Landmark by the City of St. Louis in 1973.In the 1970s, the neighborhood became the subject of a lawsuit when the owner of 4 Kingsbury Place died and her will directed her executor to raze the home, sell the lot, and transfer the proceeds to the residuary of the estate. Her neighbors sued to prevent the demolition, asserting that demolition of the home would be a private nuisance, lower their own property values, and violate the terms of a neighborhood covenant. The neighbors ultimately prevailed on appeal.

The Joseph Erlanger House is a historic house at 5127 Waterman Boulevard in St. Louis, Missouri. As a National Historic Landmark, it was designated to recognize the achievements of Joseph Erlanger (1874-1965), an American doctor and physiologist, who was awarded with the Nobel Prize in medicine in 1944. It was Erlanger's home from 1917 until his death. It was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1976. However, the house is not open to the public.

DeBaliviere Place ( duh-BAH-lih-ver) is a neighborhood of St. Louis, Missouri.

Portland and Westmoreland Places is a historic district in the Central West End neighborhood of St. Louis, Missouri. It is adjacent to the northeast corner of Forest Park. The district consists of 94 houses built circa 1890 to 1960. A wide variety of architectural styles are represented, including some of the finest examples of late nineteenth and early twentieth century architecture in the city.The district includes houses along Portland Place and Westmoreland Place between Union Boulevard on the west and North Kingshighway Boulevard to the east. The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.Due to a quirk of the time period, a number of the streets are private streets rather than public ones. In the late 1800s, when the city government of St. Louis had not yet adopted a policy of aggressively paving streets, homeowners in the area privately paved the roads at their own expense, but also allowed them the right of exclusion on them. The result was something similar to a "gated community", albeit not entirely, as some public road access still exists. Additionally, under the reign of St. Louis mayor Vincent Schoemehl, various city streets were blocked to create more isolated cul-de-sacs during a time of population decline for the city; while many of these changes were eventually undone, these changes tended to persist more in wealthy communities such as Portland and Westmoreland Places.
