Academy, St. Louis

Soldan International Studies High School (also known as Soldan High School) is a public magnet high school in the Academy neighborhood of St. Louis, Missouri, US, that is part of the St. Louis Public Schools. Soldan was known for its wealthy and predominantly Jewish student population, from its opening in 1909. The student population underwent a rapid change in demographics, starting in the 1950s. It was predominantly African American by the mid-1960s. The school was renovated and reopened as a magnet school, with a focus on international relations, in the early 1990s.

Fountain Park is a neighborhood of St. Louis, Missouri, United States. Originally the Aubert Place subdivision, it was laid out by John Lay in 1857. The Fountain Park neighborhood is located in north St. Louis with Martin Luther King Drive on the north, Delmar Boulevard on the south, Walton Avenue on the east, and Kingshighway Boulevard on the west. It is just two blocks north of the Central West End (CWE) of the city. The Fountain Park neighborhood is named after Fountain Park, a small oval-shaped city park near its center. A Martin Luther King Jr. statue sculpted by Rudolph Edward Torrini is situated on the west side of the park. The park at the neighborhood's center hosts large Juneteenth celebrations since the mid-2000s. The space was reserved for a public park in 1857 and was donated to the city by John Lay in 1889. The fountain in its center was given by the Merchants Exchange. Residents and supporters participate in the Operation Brightside clean-up and the National Night Out.

Union Avenue Opera (previously Union Avenue Opera Theatre) is an opera company based in St. Louis, Missouri. The company was founded in 1994 by Scott Schoonover, the music director of Union Avenue Christian Church, which serves as the company's venue in St. Louis' Visitation Park neighborhood.

Visitation Park is a neighborhood in St. Louis, Missouri. The neighborhood is defined by Maple Avenue on the North, Delmar Boulevard on the South, Union Boulevard on the East, and Belt Avenue on the West. Visitation Park is a small neighborhood nestled southeast of the West End neighborhood, just north of DeBaliviere Place.The Visitation Park neighborhood is named for the Visitation Academy of St. Louis, which was located at the southeast corner of Cabanne Avenue and Belt Avenue from 1892 to 1962. The Visitation Academy was razed in 1962 and the site became Visitation Park. In 1989, the park was renamed Ivory Perry Park.

The Show-Me Institute, or SMI, is an American think tank based in St. Louis, Missouri that promotes public policies that advance free market principles. Founded in 2005, the organization focuses on economic and good governance issues in the state of Missouri. The stated mission of the Show-Me Institute is "improving the quality of life for all citizens of Missouri by advancing sensible, well-researched solutions to state and local policy issues." The Institute opened a branch office in Kansas City in 2014.

Holy Corners Historic District, so named because of its concentration of early 20th-century churches, temples and other large buildings of public assembly, is located on both sides of North Kingshighway Boulevard between and including Westminster Place and Washington Avenue in St. Louis, Missouri. On December 29, 1975, the district was added to the National Register of Historic Places.

New City School is a non-sectarian, co-educational independent elementary school in St. Louis, Missouri. It was founded 1969 in the Central West End neighborhood. The New City student body is composed of 37% students of color. Its come from 48 different zip codes, and 40% of them receive need-based scholarships. New City School has 40 full-time and five part-time faculty members,

Central Technical Training Command is an inactive United States Air Force unit. It was assigned to the Army Air Forces Training Command, stationed at Saint Louis, Missouri. It was inactivated on 1 March 1944.

Washington Terrace is a residential private place in St. Louis, Missouri, laid out circa 1892. The gate is south of Union and Delmar, within the bounds of the Central West End. A private place is a self-governing enclave whose common areas like streets and common gardens are owned by the residents, with services provided by the private sector, an experiment that foreshadowed the gated community in the U.S. by 100 years. About 50 of these enclaves once stood within the borders of the city of St. Louis. Most were designed by civil engineer Julius Pitzman between 1868 and 1905. Many of these developments, like Washington Terrace, are well-preserved and still gated, patrolled, and functioning as private enclaves. Pitzman laid out Washington Terrace with 50 lots and an imposing entry gate, a "French Norman Clock Tower" designed by Harvey Ellis and the architect George R. Mann. The styles of the mansions, many of them built in anticipation of the 1904 Louisiana Purchase Exposition and constructed atop substantial pedestals, range from Italian Renaissance, Richardsonian Romanesque and Tudor. Number 25 Washington Terrace, for instance, was the residence of Joseph W. Moon, of St. Louis's once-successful Moon Motor Car. Number 11 was the home of Julius Adler Baer, of Stix, Baer and Fuller.

First Church of Christ, Scientist, is an historic Christian Science church edifice located at 475 North Kingshighway Boulevard, corner of Westminster Place, in St. Louis, Missouri. Built in 1903–1904, it was designed as a stone building in the Classical Revival style of architecture by Edward Gordon Garden of Mauran, Russell & Garden and was the first institutional commission of that fledgling firm. Cost concerns, though, resulted in it being built of brick. It is a contributing property in the Holy Corners Historic District which was added to the National Register of Historic Places on December 29, 1975. First Church of Christ, Scientist, which had been founded in 1894, still holds services in this historic building.

The Joseph Erlanger House is a historic house at 5127 Waterman Boulevard in St. Louis, Missouri. As a National Historic Landmark, it was designated to recognize the achievements of Joseph Erlanger (1874-1965), an American doctor and physiologist, who was awarded with the Nobel Prize in medicine in 1944. It was Erlanger's home from 1917 until his death. It was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1976. However, the house is not open to the public.

Hawthorn Leadership School for Girls was a public all girls' charter middle and high school in Saint Louis, Missouri. It was chartered by Washington University in St. Louis and has a focus on science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). It is Missouri's first public girls' school.Mary Stillman, one of the daughters of John Danforth and an alumna of all girls' schools, had conceptualized Hawthorn.In August 2015 it opened 130 students in grades 6 and 7. A new grade will be added each year until it gets grade 12.. The school shut its doors in August 2023, citing declining enrollment.
