Urkiola Natural Park

Urkiola is a mountain range of the Basque mountains in Biscay near Durango, in the western Basque Country, Spain. The highest mountain in the range is Anboto (1331 m). The range runs from west to east and forms the water divide between the Atlantic and the Mediterranean basins. It was declared natural park on 29 December 1989 prompted by the Basque government's determination to protect the diversity of wildlife and flora it harbours. In the center of this natural park is a church called Santuario de Urkiola, which was at different times served by Saint Antonio Abad and Saint Anthony of Padua. Basque mythology is also present in this natural park. Tradition holds that a cave perched on eastern side of the Anboto mountain holds the abode of Basque goddess Mari.

Mañaria (both in Basque and Spanish) is an elizate, town and municipality located in the province of Biscay, in the Basque Country, Spain. Mañaria is part of the comarca of Durangaldea and has a population of 459 inhabitants as of 2006 according to the Spanish National Statistics Institute.

Untxillaitz, Untxillaitx, or Untzillatx, is a mountain of Biscay, Basque Country (Spain), 934 m. high. Its name may mean "Rabbit's peak" (in Basque language : untzi(a)=rabbit, and aitz=peak). Part of the Urkiola range, although it does not belong to the same crest of the Anboto, it is also part of the same limestone range. It forms the pass of Atxarte with the neighbouring Aitz Txiki and it is located in the valleys of Mendiola and Mañaria. Quarries have been created in both sides of the mountain, but now the Atxarte one is closed. Mañaria is the starting point of the Urkiola pass that separates Untxillatx from Mugarra. An outstanding feature is the rock prominence in the north face, called Urresti. This prominence has many rock climbing ways and vulture nests.

The Sanctuary of Saint Anthony the Abbot and Saint Anthony of Padua of Urkiola is a Catholic temple located in the hill and port of Urkiola, in the Biscayan municipality of Abadiño, in the Basque Country, Spain. It is unknown exactly how old the Sanctuary is, but according to some documents, it could have been between the 8th and 11th centuries, making it one of the oldest of the region. It is located at the heart of the Urkiola Natural Park, next to one of the historical routes linking the Cantabrian coast with the Castilian plateau and surrounded by a lush nature in which the limestone walls of the mountains of Durangaldea stand out as a background, with the Anboto as the highest altitude, where Basque mythology places the main dwelling of its highest deity, Mari (called the "Lady of Anboto"). The present structure, the third one known to exist, is an unfinished building in neo-medieval style that was begun in 1899 and consecrated in 1933. This building, together with a small bell tower erected in 1870, the rectory, the old hospital and the hospice, make up the religious complex, which is complemented by two small old chapels, the Santo Cristo and Santa Polonia, a Stations of the Cross and Calvary built in 1943, and the small cemetery in the rural neighborhood.

Mugarra is a peak of Biscay, Basque Country (Spain), 936 m high, belonging to the Aramotz massif. The Aramotz massif is in the western limit of the Urkiola range. Mugarra continues the line of the Anboto, Alluitz, Aitz Txiki and Untxillaitz and is the eastern limit of the Aramotz massif. Huge limestone rock where fossil rests of seashell can be found. The southern face forms a 300 m high cliff over the col of Mugarrekolanda. In this cliff have their nests the majority of the vulture pairs of Urkiola (60 estimated). The northern face, facing Durango, is very steep but does not form a cliff, and it is covered by beeches and Cantabrian Holm Oaks. The crest of Mugarra has many rock climbing ways, but climbing is not permitted to avoid disrupting of the vultures' habitat. This limestone crest is being consumed by a great quarry that causes irreparable damage to the mountain and is bordering the protected area.

Sociedad Cultural Deportiva Durango is a Spanish football team based in Durango, Biscay, in the autonomous community of Basque Country. Founded in 1919 it plays in Tercera Federación – Group 4, holding home matches at Estadio Tabira, with a capacity of 3,000 spectators.

The bombing of Durango took place on 31 March 1937, during the Spanish Civil War. On 31 March 1937 the Nationalists started their offensive against the Republican held province of Biscay. As part of the offensive the Aviazione Legionaria and the Legion Condor bombed Durango, a town of 10,000 inhabitants that was also a key road and railway junction behind the frontline. Around 250 people are believed to have died in the bombing.

Durangaldea (Spanish: Duranguesado) is a comarca of Biscay located in the Basque Country, Spain. It is one of the seven eskualdeak/comarcas or regions that compose the province of Biscay. The capital city of Durangaldea is Durango.

San Jose College (Spanish: Colegio San José, Jesuitak Ikastetxea) is a private Catholic primary and secondary school, located in Durango, Biscay, in the autonomous community of Basque Country, Spain. The school was founded by the Society of Jesus in 1885, and includes infant through baccalaureate. The school fosters the Basque culture and language, while also teaching Spanish and English.

The Kurutzesantu Museum is a museum located in Durango, Biscay, Spain, created to house the Kurutziaga Cross, a sculpted Gothic cross believed to date from the 15th–16th centuries AD. The cross has been designated a Historic Artistic Monument.

Asador Etxebarri is a Spanish restaurant in Atxondo, Spain. It was voted 3rd best of the World's 101 Best Steak Restaurants as well as 3rd best in the world in Restaurant (magazine) Top 50 Awards in 2019 and 2021, 4th in 2023, and 6th in 2015. The owner and chef is Victor Arguinzoniz, who cooks everything over a grill. Thus, all courses, even dessert, have the taste of fire. Arguinzoniz was born in the same village, next to the restaurant, and worked in a flag factory for many years before buying the restaurant with his father and uncle. He taught himself to cook and built his own kitchen full of manual grilling contraptions using multiple types of wood. Wines are chosen by Mohamed Benabdallah who was previously at Mugaritz.

Abadiño (Basque: Abadiño; Spanish: Abadiano) is a town located in the province of Biscay, in the autonomous community of Basque Country, in the north of Spain, about 35 km from the provincial capital of Bilbao. The area of the municipality is about 36 km2 (13.9 sq mi) and according to the 2014 census, the population is 7504. The original name of the town was Abadiano Celayeta.
