Chapel-en-le-Frith High School

Chapel-en-le-Frith () is a town and civil parish in the Borough of High Peak in Derbyshire, England. It has been dubbed the "Capital of the Peak", in reference to the Peak District, historically the highland areas between the Saxon lands (below the River Trent) and the Vikings lands (which came as far south as Dore, Sheffield). The town was established by the Normans in the 12th century, originally as a hunting lodge within the Forest of High Peak. This led to the Anglo-Norman-derived name Chapel-en-le-Frith ("chapel in the forest"). (It appears in a Middle English form in a Latin record as Chapell in the ffryth, in 1401.) The population at the 2011 census was 8,635.

Chapel-en-le-Frith Central railway station was an intermediate stop on the Derby–Manchester line of the Midland Railway. It served the Derbyshire town of Chapel-en-le-Frith between 1867 and 1967.

Chapel-en-le-Frith railway station (formerly Chapel-en-le-Frith South) serves the Peak District town of Chapel-en-le-Frith, Derbyshire, England. It is 20+1⁄2 miles (33.0 kilometres) south east of Manchester Piccadilly on the Buxton Line from Manchester. It was built in 1863 for the London & North Western Railway, on its line from Whaley Bridge to Buxton as an extension of the Stockport, Disley and Whaley Bridge Railway. In 1867, the Midland Railway built a station (known as Chapel-en-le-Frith Central) on the Sheffield and Midland Railway Companies' Committee line from Millers Dale to Chinley. The town therefore had a main line connection from Manchester to London featuring expresses such as the 'Palatine' and the 'Peaks'. However, with the closure of the ex Midland route from Chinley to Rowsley to passenger traffic in 1967, Central station was closed. The Midland line is still in-situ and used for freight to and from Peak Forest. The station is one of very few to retain its walkway to cross between platforms; most stations having had footbridges installed. The prime reason for this is the requirement to provide a vehicular crossing for those houses further up the hill which have no reliable alternative, as the very rough alternative is blocked for days during snow, and even when open requires a considerable extra distance to be covered to reach the town centre. A footbridge would therefore not be used.The former station master's house was used as a restaurant called "Brief Encounter" but has been refurbished and is being used as a band room for Chapel-en-le-Frith Town Band.

Chapel-en-le-Frith Town Hall is a municipal building in Market Street, Chapel-en-le-Frith, Derbyshire, England. The structure operates as a community events venue, as well as the offices and meeting place of Chapel-en-le-Frith Parish Council.

Stodhart Tunnel is a 100-yard (91 m) tunnel on the Peak Forest Tramway at Chapel Milton, Derbyshire. The tunnel stretches under the Chapel-en-le-Firth to Glossop Road. Although one side has been blocked up, it remains one of the oldest rail-related tunnels in the world and was also the site of one of the earliest rail-related accidents, when a laden carriage rolled into two horses, killing them.

High Peak Radio was an Independent Local Radio station broadcasting to the Peak District, Derbyshire, from studios in Chapel-en-le-Frith. It broadcast on 106.4 (Buxton & Glossop), 103.3 (Buxworth & Hope Valley), and 106.6 FM (Chapel-en-le-Frith). Its sister station, Ashbourne Radio, broadcast from Ashbourne on 96.7 FM (Ashbourne) and 101.8 FM (Wirksworth & Uttoxeter). On 4 November 2019, both stations relaunched as Imagine Radio, sharing off-peak programming with its sister station in Stockport. In June 2021, Bauer Media announced that they were buying the Imagine Radio stations from the Like Media Group, which would be merged into the Greatest Hits Radio network on 1 September 2021.Several former High Peak Radio presenters joined a competing online station called Peak Sound Radio, formed after the closure of the Imagine stations.

Chapel Milton is a hamlet on the outskirts of Chapel-en-le-Frith on the road leading from there to Chinley and to Glossop. Within the parish of Chinley, Buxworth and Brownside, it takes its name from the site of a medieval corn mill, Maynstonfield Mill, or “Mainstonefield alias Chinley”. This mill was erected near a stream called Hockholme Brook, which is no longer marked though is thought to converge with the Black Brook at Chapel Milton. Originally built in 1391 for £12 4s 1d, the mill (which adjoined what is now Milton House) was demolished in 1946. The hamlet is notable for two major features. The first is Chapel Milton Viaduct, bifurcating double railway viaduct crossing the Black Brook, tributary to the Goyt, on which Chapel Milton is situated. One section of the viaduct diverges and curves to the west whilst the other (built a little later) curves to the east as the line, coming up from the south, links up with the main line between Sheffield and Manchester. At one time the western section carried express trains from London (St Pancras) to Manchester Central Station. The viaducts now carry considerable loads of quarried stone from the works around Buxton. The other major feature is Chinley Chapel. The Christian congregation, which has continuously occupied this site almost since its foundation (in a barn at nearby Malcoff), was founded in 1662 at the time of the post-Cromwellian struggle between a Presbyterian or Episcopalian form for the Church of England. The present 'chapel', of considerable simplicity and beauty, was built, against considerable local opposition, in 1711. It flourishes as a centre of Christian (Congregational) worship. It is part of the Congregational Federation, and the current minister is Rev. Edmonde Openshaw. John Wesley preached in the hamlet on 28 May 1745, when the miller purportedly tried to drown him out with the sound of the watermill. Grace Bennett (née Murray), Wesley's former fiancé, is buried with the husband she later married, preacher John Bennett, in Chinley Independent Chapel.The viaduct and chapel are both listed buildings, the latter at Grade II*.

Chapel Milton Viaduct is a Grade II listed bifurcated railway viaduct on the Great Rocks Line at its junction with the Hope Valley Line, straddling the Black Brook valley in Chapel Milton, Derbyshire, England. The first section of the viaduct, built by the Midland Railway in 1867, diverges and curves to the west while the second, built in 1890, curves to the east as the line, coming up from the south, links up with the main line between Sheffield and Manchester. Originally built to carry express trains from London St Pancras to Manchester London Road, the viaduct now carries a freight-only line transporting limestone from the quarries and works around Buxton. The viaduct is a significant and dominant structure within the small hamlet, which is largely characterised by its presence. It also passes over the Peak Forest Tramway, an early industrial railway operational from 1796. Since July 2019, an aerial shot of the double viaduct has featured in the opening titles of the regional news programme BBC North West Tonight.

Combs is a small village in Derbyshire, England, in the civil parish of Chapel-en-le-Frith and the Peak District National Park. The village is bounded to the east, west and south by gritstone edges and moorland, the highest of which is Black Edge (507 m (1,663 ft)). To the north the embankment of the Buxton to Stockport railway separates it from Combs Reservoir. To the east is Castle Naze, a prehistoric settlement site. The village has a pub, the Beehive Inn, and infant school.Combs resident Herbert Frood developed a vehicle brake pad and in 1897 founded the company Ferodo. The village was also home to journalists and authors Crichton Porteous and Peggy Bellhouse. Old Brook House and its barn, close to the Beehive public house, is a listed building. Parts of it dates from the 17th and 18th centuries, as does Marsh Hall closer to Chapel-en-le-frith.

New Smithy is a hamlet in the civil parish of Chinley, Buxworth and Brownside, Derbyshire, England, near the village of Chinley. It sits on the A624 trunk road from Glossop to Chapel-en-le-Frith featuring a TOTSO where left carries one down to Chapel and right heads to Chinley. There is a railway bridge over the turning, used for both freight and passengers, on the Hope Valley Line to Sheffield and Manchester; very close down the line is Chinley railway station. Next to this the Crown & Mitre pub, now converted into residential flats, is the main landmark and there are a couple of residential housing streets and terraces, and one or two businesses. Its name comes from the construction of the twin Chapel Milton Viaducts nearby; horses were used during the construction and were shod here (a smithy is a blacksmith's forge). The hamlet has an industrial past, along with the neighbouring village of Hayfield. New Smithy's Maynestone Mill was finally demolished in 1946, almost 500 years after it was opened in 1452.New Smithy is in a hilly area (being in the Peak District); geographical features include Bole Hill, Mount Famine, South Head, Eccles Pike, Mag Low, Chinley Churn, the River Sett and Combs Reservoir.

The Chapel Inclined Plane is an inclined plane immediately to the south of Chapel-en-le-Frith, High Peak, Derbyshire. The ground here rises sharply and the inclined plane was built to connect the lower and upper levels of the Peak Forest Tramway, which was built and initially operated by the Peak Forest Canal Company. It opened for trade on 31 August 1796.

Wash, or The Wash is a hamlet in Derbyshire, England. The hamlet falls within the civil parish of Chapel-en-le-Frith. It is about 1.2 km (or 0.75 miles) north of Chapel-en-le-Frith and within the boundaries of the Peak District National Park.
