Sparkassen Arena is an indoor arena in Jena, Germany. It serves as the home arena for Science City Jena of the Basketball Bundesliga. It has a seating capacity of 3,000. The naming sponsor was a local savings bank, Sparkasse Jena-Saale-Holzland.In 2021, it hosted the PDC World Cup of Darts, which was won by Scotland.

Lobeda is a former independent city in Thuringia, Germany, which is now a district of Jena known as Lobeda-Old Town. It was incorporated in 1946, has just under 2000 inhabitants on an area of 3.36 square kilometers and is located just under 4.5 kilometers south of the city center. Between 1966 and 1986, the Jena prefabricated satellite town of Neulobeda was built southwest of Lobeda, with around 20,000 inhabitants. To better differentiate it from Neulobeda (also a district of Jena), the old Lobeda has been calling itself Lobeda-Old Town (district of Jena) since May 25, 1998.

Leutra is a small river in Thuringia, Germany. It flows into the Saale in the village Maua, in the southern part of Jena. Another small river also named Leutra flows into the Saale in the centre of Jena, 6 km to the north. The valley through which the Leutra flows is part of an important nature reserve, called Naturschutzgebiet Leutratal und Cospoth, maintained by Naturschutzbund Deutschland. During the Nazi era a motorway (the A4) was built through the valley, but Angela Merkel's government had a road tunnel built (Jagdbergtunnel) to increase the capacity of the Autobahn while reducing the impact of the road on the nature reserve.

Johannisberg is a prominent ridge of the Wöllmisse, a Muschelkalk plateau east of Jena. The steeply sloping spur of land to the Saale Valley north of the district of Alt-Lobeda bears the remains of two important fortifications from the late Bronze Age and the early Middle Ages. Due to several archaeological excavations and finds recovered since the 1870s, they are among the few investigated fortifications from these periods in Thuringia. Of particular interest in archaeological and historical research is the early medieval castle. Due to its location directly on the eastern bank of the Saale, its dating and interpretation were and are strongly linked to considerations of the political-military eastern border of the Frankish empire. It is disputed whether it was a fortification of independent Slavic rulers or whether it was built under Frankish rule. According to a recent study, it may have been built in the second half of the 9th century in connection with the establishment of the limes sorabicus under Frankish influence.

The Ernst Abbe Sportfeld is a sports facility in Jena, Germany. The main stadium at the sports facility is the Stadion in Jena. It was dedicated on 24 August 1924 and was named after entrepreneur Ernst Abbe 15 years later. The facility is in southern Jena, directly on the Saale River. The City of Jena purchased the stadium from the Ernst-Abbe-Stiftung (The Ernst Abbe Foundation) in 1991. The soccer and track stadium in the Ernst-Abbe-Sportfeld is the home field of FC Carl Zeiss Jena. It was homestead for famous sprints, javelin throw and long jump athletes like Petra Felke and Heike Drechsler, when Sport-Club Motor Jena still existed, and it has a capacity of over 12,990. There are 6,540 seats with 4,010 covered seats in the main stands. The spectator capacity will be increased to 14,000. 1997 saw the replacement of the original wooden bleachers from 1924 (which could seat only 420 people) with the new, modern stands to accommodate more spectators. The stadium's lights were mounted on four massive, hollow steel towers and were the result of the 1974 and 1994 renovations of the facility. The steel towers were taken down in 2013. The electronic scoreboard was installed in 1978 and was the first of its kind in East Germany. The attendance record was set in 1962. Despite the then official capacity of 16,000 spectators, approximately 27,500 visitors found the way into the stadium for the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup semi-final versus Atlético Madrid. Next to the stadium are additional facilities for soccer, track, and various other sports.

The Jena tramway network (German: Straßenbahnnetz Jena) is a network of tramways forming part of the public transport system in Jena, a city in the federal state of Thuringia, Germany. Opened in 1901, the network is currently operated by Jenaer Nahverkehr, and is integrated in the Verkehrsverbund Mittelthüringen (VMT). It has five lines in operation.

The Beutenberg Campus is a science and research site situated in southern Jena, Germany. The physician Hans Knöll founded the first biomedical research institute at Beutenberg in 1950. From 1970, it was run as the Central Institute of Microbiology and Experimental Therapy (Zentralinstitut für Mikrobiologie und experimentelle Therapie - ZIMET) of the Academy of Sciences of the GDR. From 1982 institutes focussing on physics were also set up on the site. Following German reunification in 1990, a multidisciplinary science and research centre was created in response to a recommendation by the German Council of Science and Humanities. The campus currently hosts nine research institutes. These include three Leibniz Association institutes, two Max Planck Society institutes, one Fraunhofer Society institute, one institute funded by the State of Thuringia, as well as Friedrich Schiller University institutes. Two start-up centres, the Technology and Innovation Park Jena and the Bioinstrumentation centre, host more than 50 companies. In addition, Wacker Biotech GmbH has established biotechnology production facilities on campus. Beutenberg Campus offers an interdisciplinary knowledge and technology platform for work in innovative research. It is a competence centre for research in terms of the guidelines Life Science meets Physics. The areas of biology, natural product chemistry, environmental research and medicine complement the physics of optics, photonics and optical microsystems. Over 2300 people currently work on the Campus, more than 1000 are scientists. German and foreign students pursue their PhDs in association with one of the seven international research schools and in close cooperation with the Friedrich Schiller University of Jena.

The Leibniz Institute of Photonic Technology (IPHT — German: Institut für Photonische Technologien) is a non-university research facility in Jena, Thuringia, Germany. Focused on applications for various physical systems, the Institute's mandate is to find solutions to challenges in high technology systems. IPHT carries out research in the following areas: magnetics, quantum electronics, optics, microsystems, biophotonics and laser technology. The Institute works with both universities and companies. The IPHT coordinates several EU-Projects funded by the European Commission: Photonics4Life S-Pulse High-EF Rod-Sol Fiblys

The Max Planck Institute of Geoanthropology (German: Max-Planck-Institut für Geoanthropologie) performs basic research into archaeological science. The institute is one of more than 80 research institutes of the Max Planck Society and is located in Jena, Germany.

The Max Planck Institute for Chemical Ecology is located on Beutenberg Campus in Jena, Germany. It was founded in March 1996 and is one of 80 institutes of the Max Planck Society (Max Planck Gesellschaft). Chemical ecology examines the role of chemical signals that mediate the interactions between plants, animals, and their environment, as well as the evolutionary and behavioral consequences of these interactions. The managing director of the institute is Jonathan Gershenzon. About 175 scientists, among them many PhD candidates and students, do their research in five departments and further independent research groups.
