Türkenkaserne

The Türkentor (Turks' Gate) is a gatehouse in Munich. It is the only surviving part of the Türkenkaserne (Turk's barracks), built in 1826 for the Royal Bavarian Infantry Lifeguards Regiment. The barracks and remaining gatehouse were named after the Türkenstraße on which they were located, which was in turn named after the Türkengraben channel dug along the Kurfürstenstraße by Turkish prisoners of war during the German states' 18th century wars with the Ottoman Empire to provide a waterway as part of the North Munich Canal System (Nordmünchner Kanalsystem) linking the Munich Residenz with the Schleissheim Palace. Between 2008 and 2010 the Türkentor was restored with 780,000 euro from the Stiftung Pinakothek der Moderne. It reopened in October 2010 and since then has housed the sculpture Large Red Sphere by the American artist Walter De Maria, which had been purchased by the Stiftung Brandhorst.

The German Society for Christian Art (German - Deutsche Gesellschaft für christliche Kunst or DG) is a "supra-regional, not-for-profit and independent cultural institution" based in Munich. It was formed in 1893 and sees itself as an "ecumenically oriented forum for a lively dialogue between artists, theologians, philosophers and art lovers". In its gallery at Finkenstraße 4 on Wittelsbacherplatz in Munich it holds thematic retrospectives of contemporary artists. Since 1979 it has awarded the Gebhard Fugel Art Prize.

The Museum Reich der Kristalle is the publicly accessible part of the Mineralogischen Staatssammlung (State Mineralogical Collection) of Munich, Germany.

Locals sometimes refer to it as the Dritte ("third") Pinakothek after the Old and New. It is one of the world's largest museums for modern and contemporary art.

Architekturmuseum der Technischen Universität München is an architectural history research museum belonging to the Technical University of Munich in Munich, Bavaria, Germany. It is by far the largest collection of architectural exhibits in Germany. The main exhibition rooms of the museum are located in the same building as the Pinakothek der Moderne, with an additional branch office, called the Architekturmuseum Schwaben (Architecture Museum of Swabia), located in Augsburg.

Die Neue Sammlung is one of the leading design museums in the world, with the largest collection of industrial and product design. Established around 100 years ago, Die Neue Sammlung is considered the world’s oldest design museum – regarded as such long before the word design acquired this meaning. Since then, Die Neue Sammlung has been making design history with its international acquisitions and stimulating exhibitions. With over 100,000 catalogued items, Die Neue Sammlung is among the world’s largest design collections. It is very wide-ranging, with the collection covering over 20 different areas, embracing Product and Industrial Design or Furniture and Graphic Design as well as topics such as Mobility and IT Design. Ceramics and glass are focal areas, as are Jewelry and Appliances, not to mention selected objects in the field of crafted design.

The Brandhorst Museum was opened in Munich on 21 May 2009. It displays about 200 exhibits from collection of modern art of the heirs of the Henkel trust Udo and Anette Brandhorst. In 2009 the Brandhorst Collection comprises more than 700 works.

Kaim-Saal was a concert hall in Maxvorstadt, Munich, Germany. Built in 1895, it was renamed Tonhalle in 1905. It was destroyed in 1944 in the Bombing of Munich in World War II.

The Kunstareal (German: [ˈkʊnst.aʁeˌaːl], "art district") is a museum quarter in the city centre of Munich, Germany.

The Wittelsbacher Palais was located in Munich at the northeast corner of the Brienner Strasse and the Türkenstraße. Today, a building of the BayernLB is located at the site of the palace. A copy of one of two stone lions at the entrance area is the only keepsake of the palace.

The Café Stefanie was a coffeehouse in Munich which around the 1900s till the 1920s was the leading artist's meeting place in the city, similar to the Café Größenwahn atmosphere of the Café des Westens in Berlin and the Café Griensteidl in Vienna. The cafe was located on the corner of Amalienstraße and Theresienstraße in the Maxvorstadt not far from the Simplicissimus cabaret and Die Elf Scharfrichter. At the time it was one of the few establishments in Munich which stayed open till 3:00 in the morning. Regular patrons and visitors included Johannes R. Becher, Hanns Bolz, Hans Carossa, Theodor Däubler, Kurt Eisner, Hanns Heinz Ewers, Leonhard Frank, Otto Gross, Emmy Hennings, Arthur Holitscher, Eduard von Keyserling, Paul Klee, Alfred Kubin, Gustav Landauer, Heinrich Mann, Gustav Meyrink, Erich Mühsam, Erwin Piscator, Alexander Roda Roda, Ernst Toller, B. Traven and Frank Wedekind.
