Pleasantville High School (New York)

Pleasantville is a village in the town of Mount Pleasant, in Westchester County, New York, United States. It is located 30 miles north of Manhattan. The village population was 7,513 at the 2020 census. Pleasantville is home to the secondary campus of Pace University and to the Jacob Burns Film Center. Most of Pleasantville is served by the Pleasantville Union Free School District, with small parts of northern Pleasantville served by the Chappaqua Central School District. The village is also home to the Bedford Road School, Pleasantville Middle School, and Pleasantville High School. The region of Pleasantville commonly referred to as "The Flats" is mostly served by the Mount Pleasant Central School district. The current mayor of Pleasantville is Peter Scherer, who has held the seat since 2009.

Marmaduke Forster House, also known as the Forster-Hobby-Washburn House, is an historic home located in Pleasantville, Westchester County, New York. The original section of the house was built about 1785 by Marmaduke Forster, a colonial carpenter from New York City, as a 1+1⁄2-story, timber frame dwelling. It was remodeled and enlarged in the 19th century, first about 1840 in the Gothic Revival style and again in 1895 by architect George P. Washburn. This later modification added Queen Anne style elements - an octagonal turret on the front facade and a chateau wing with 20 colored glass panes. The house features a rambling 80-feet verandah with elaborate woodwork. The house was renovated in 2007, and a two-story addition built. Currently it houses small business offices. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2011.

The Jacob Burns Film Center (JBFC) is a nonprofit cultural arts center located in Pleasantville, New York. It occupies the old Rome Theater, a Spanish mission-style theater built in 1925.Along with independent and documentary films, the center hosts a variety of special events, including discussions with filmmakers, critics and people from the industry following some screenings. The New York Times has credited the theater with helping to revitalize the downtown area of Pleasantville It annually hosts Pace University's documentary premiere with a documentary created by their class.

The Pleasantville Music Festival is a single-day music festival held annually at Parkway Field in Pleasantville, New York. Hawkins, X Ambassadors, Crash Test Dummies, Black Joe Lewis & the Honeybears, Paula Cole, Illiterate Light, Everclear, Soul Asylum, Aimee Mann, Matthew Sweet, Blues Traveler, Living Colour, Suzanne Vega, Ripe, Guster, KT Tunstall, The Revivalists, The Smithereens, Gin Blossoms, G Love & Special Sauce, Fastball, Jakob Dylan, Joan Osborne, Marc Cohn, Big Head Todd & the Monsters, the English Beat, and Roger McGuinn. These major acts perform alongside up-and-coming regional acts and small local bands from around the tri-state area.

Pleasantville station is a commuter rail stop on the Metro-North Railroad's Harlem Line, located in Pleasantville, New York. There is also bus service to the station from Pace University.

Thornwood station was a stop on the Metro-North Railroad's Harlem Line, serving the hamlet of Mount Pleasant, New York until its closure in 1984. During its existence, the station was one of the least used on the Harlem Line. Prior to its closure, it had only half the weekday service of the neighboring Hawthorne and Pleasantville stations, and was merely a flag stop for four trains on weekends.

The Battle of Young's House was a skirmish fought outside New York City between British and American forces on February 3, 1780 during the American Revolutionary War. A British force attacked and destroyed a Continental Army outpost in Westchester County, New York.

The 2006 Westchester County tornado was the strongest and largest tornado in Westchester County, New York since the 1904 Chappaqua tornado. It touched down there on Wednesday, July 12, 2006 and traveled 13 miles (21 km) into southwestern Connecticut during a 33-minute span through two states. The tornado touched down at 3:30 p.m. EDT (19:30 UTC) on the shore of the Hudson River before becoming a waterspout and traveling 3 mi (5 km) across the river. Coming ashore, the tornado entered Westchester County and struck the town of Sleepy Hollow at F1 intensity. After passing through the town, it intensified into an F2 tornado and grew to almost a quarter of a mile (400 m) in diameter. The tornado continued through the county, damaging numerous structures, until it crossed into Connecticut at 4:01 p.m. EDT (20:01 UTC). Not long after entering the state, it dissipated in the town of Greenwich at 4:03 p.m. EDT (20:03 UTC). When the tornado entered Westchester County, it was the eighth known tornado to either touch down or enter the county since 1950.Two barns and a warehouse were destroyed, and a large stained-glass window was shattered. Numerous homes and businesses were damaged and thousands of trees were uprooted. There were no fatalities and only six minor injuries were associated with the storm. The cost of damages was estimated at $12.1 million.

WQXW (90.3 FM) is an all-classical music, non-commercial radio station licensed to Ossining, New York. It simulcasts WQXR-FM, the only classical music station in New York City. WQXW now covers much of northern and central Westchester County, reaching northern portions of the New York metropolitan area where WQXR cannot reach. WQXW's antenna tower is located in Chappaqua, New York.

The Westchester Film Festival (or Westchester County Film Festival) is an annual film festival held in Westchester County, New York, United States. It is a non-profit organization. The festival features premieres and screenings of new, independent films. It screens dramatic and documentary feature films, international films, short films and student films and presents Jury and Audience awards in many categories.
