The Battle of Young's House was a skirmish fought outside New York City between British and American forces on February 3, 1780 during the American Revolutionary War. A British force attacked and destroyed a Continental Army outpost in Westchester County, New York.

Thornwood station was a stop on the Metro-North Railroad's Harlem Line, serving the hamlet of Mount Pleasant, New York until its closure in 1984. During its existence, the station was one of the least used on the Harlem Line. Prior to its closure, it had only half the weekday service of the neighboring Hawthorne and Pleasantville stations, and was merely a flag stop for four trains on weekends.

Pleasantville High School is in the village of Pleasantville within the town of Mount Pleasant in Westchester County, New York, United States. It is a comprehensive high school that provides a broad range of academic and educational programs. A full complement of extra-curricular activities including the performing and visual arts, sports, and academic and service clubs. The high school was ranked 122nd on Newsweek's 2015 list of top U.S. high schools.The Pleasantville High School football team has been in existence at least since 1922 and has won one state championship and many county titles. In 2013 the football team won the Section 1 Class B title with a win over Our Lady of Lourdes. The 2016 team won a Regional Championship, defeating New Paltz 56-20 before falling in the State Semi-Finals. The 2017 Panthers football team won the Class B NYSPHSAA Championship defeating Chenango Forks 28–14 at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse, NY. This was the first State Championship in program history. Just months later many of the same athletes won their second State Championship in the school year winning the NYSPHSAA Lacrosee Championship by a score of 16–2 over PenYan. In 2019, the Girls varsity soccer team won the state championship after defeating Central Valley Academy in a close 3-2 victory. In 2021, Pleasantville High School's football team made it to the state championship again, but was defeated 21-12 by Maine-Endwell. The men's basketball team has also won several county championships. The Pleasantville swim team has won the division 1 championship twice, most recently in 2007. The Pleasantville track team has also won the league title two years in a row.

The Pleasantville Music Festival is a single-day music festival held annually at Parkway Field in Pleasantville, New York. Hawkins, X Ambassadors, Crash Test Dummies, Black Joe Lewis & the Honeybears, Paula Cole, Illiterate Light, Everclear, Soul Asylum, Aimee Mann, Matthew Sweet, Blues Traveler, Living Colour, Suzanne Vega, Ripe, Guster, KT Tunstall, The Revivalists, The Smithereens, Gin Blossoms, G Love & Special Sauce, Fastball, Jakob Dylan, Joan Osborne, Marc Cohn, Big Head Todd & the Monsters, the English Beat, and Roger McGuinn. These major acts perform alongside up-and-coming regional acts and small local bands from around the tri-state area.

The 2006 Westchester County tornado was the strongest and largest tornado in Westchester County, New York since the 1904 Chappaqua tornado. It touched down there on Wednesday, July 12, 2006 and traveled 13 miles (21 km) into southwestern Connecticut during a 33-minute span through two states. The tornado touched down at 3:30 p.m. EDT (19:30 UTC) on the shore of the Hudson River before becoming a waterspout and traveling 3 mi (5 km) across the river. Coming ashore, the tornado entered Westchester County and struck the town of Sleepy Hollow at F1 intensity. After passing through the town, it intensified into an F2 tornado and grew to almost a quarter of a mile (400 m) in diameter. The tornado continued through the county, damaging numerous structures, until it crossed into Connecticut at 4:01 p.m. EDT (20:01 UTC). Not long after entering the state, it dissipated in the town of Greenwich at 4:03 p.m. EDT (20:03 UTC). When the tornado entered Westchester County, it was the eighth known tornado to either touch down or enter the county since 1950.Two barns and a warehouse were destroyed, and a large stained-glass window was shattered. Numerous homes and businesses were damaged and thousands of trees were uprooted. There were no fatalities and only six minor injuries were associated with the storm. The cost of damages was estimated at $12.1 million.

Marmaduke Forster House, also known as the Forster-Hobby-Washburn House, is an historic home located in Pleasantville, Westchester County, New York. The original section of the house was built about 1785 by Marmaduke Forster, a colonial carpenter from New York City, as a 1+1⁄2-story, timber frame dwelling. It was remodeled and enlarged in the 19th century, first about 1840 in the Gothic Revival style and again in 1895 by architect George P. Washburn. This later modification added Queen Anne style elements - an octagonal turret on the front facade and a chateau wing with 20 colored glass panes. The house features a rambling 80-feet verandah with elaborate woodwork. The house was renovated in 2007, and a two-story addition built. Currently it houses small business offices. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2011.

Pleasantville is a village in the town of Mount Pleasant, in Westchester County, New York, United States. It is located 30 miles north of Manhattan. The village population was 7,513 at the 2020 census. Pleasantville is home to the secondary campus of Pace University and to the Jacob Burns Film Center. Most of Pleasantville is served by the Pleasantville Union Free School District, with small parts of northern Pleasantville served by the Chappaqua Central School District. The village is also home to the Bedford Road School, Pleasantville Middle School, and Pleasantville High School. The region of Pleasantville commonly referred to as "The Flats" is mostly served by the Mount Pleasant Central School district. The current mayor of Pleasantville is Peter Scherer, who has held the seat since 2009.

The Jacob Burns Film Center (JBFC) is a nonprofit cultural arts center located in Pleasantville, New York. It occupies the old Rome Theater, a Spanish mission-style theater built in 1925.Along with independent and documentary films, the center hosts a variety of special events, including discussions with filmmakers, critics and people from the industry following some screenings. The New York Times has credited the theater with helping to revitalize the downtown area of Pleasantville It annually hosts Pace University's documentary premiere with a documentary created by their class.

Hawthorne station is a commuter rail stop on the Metro-North Railroad's Harlem Line, located in Mount Pleasant, New York. Trains leave or arrive approximately every 20 minutes during peak periods, hourly otherwise. It is 28.2 miles (45 km) from Grand Central Terminal and the average travel time to Grand Central is 44 minutes. The station is located in the Zone 5 Metro-North fare zone.

Mount Pleasant is a town in Westchester County, New York, United States, in the New York metropolitan area. As of the 2020 census, the town population was 44,436. The hamlets of Valhalla, Hawthorne, Pocantico Hills, and Thornwood, and the villages of Pleasantville, Sleepy Hollow, and a small portion of Briarcliff Manor lie within the town.

Area code 914 is the telephone area code in the North American Numbering Plan (NANP) for Westchester County, New York. Area code 914 was one of the first area codes announced when the North American Numbering Plan was created in October 1947, when it was assigned to a numbering plan area (NPA) comprising Delaware, Dutchess, Nassau, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Suffolk, Sullivan, Ulster, and Westchester counties, an area largely coextensive with the New York state portion of the New York metropolitan area, excluding New York City, which received area code 212. In 1951, Long Island (Nassau and Suffolk counties) received area code 516 in a split of 914.This configuration remained for 49 years. By the end of the 1990s, the increasing demand for cell phones and Internet dial-up connections caused concerns for exhaustion of the numbering pool. In mitigation, numbering plan area 914 was reduced to Westchester County on June 5, 2000. The remainder was assigned the new area code 845. Area code 914 was retained by all cellphones in use in the plan area before the split.Prior to October 2021, area code 914 had telephone numbers assigned for the central office code 988. In 2020, 988 was designated nationwide as a dialing code for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, which created a conflict for exchanges that permit seven-digit dialing. This area code was therefore scheduled to transition to ten-digit dialing by October 24, 2021.
