Cairns Airport (IATA: CNS, ICAO: YBCS) is an international airport in Cairns, Queensland, Australia. Formerly operated by the Cairns Port Authority, the airport was sold by the Queensland Government in December 2008 to a private consortium. It is the seventh busiest airport in Australia. The airport is located 2.3 nautical miles (4.3 km; 2.6 mi) north northwest of Cairns or 7 kilometres (4.3 mi) north of the Cairns central business district, in the suburb of Aeroglen. The airport lies between Mount Whitfield to the west and Trinity Bay to the east. The airport has direct flights to 10 international and 35 domestic destinations and many general aviation flights including a number of helicopter operators. Flights are operated to all major Australian cities and tourist destinations, regional communities in Far North Queensland, and a number of international destinations in the Asia-Pacific region with connections to the rest of the world. The airport formed the main base for Australian Airlines prior to its ceasing of operations in June 2006 (the airport remains a major port for parent company Qantas). It is also a base for the Royal Flying Doctor Service and the search and rescue helicopters of the Queensland Government. In the 12 months ending 30 June 2019, Cairns Airport had just over 5 million passengers.

The William Walter Mason Memorial Bridge (also known as Barron River Bridge) is a road bridge that carries the Captain Cook Highway across the Barron River at the boundary of four suburbs in Cairns (Stratford, Aeroglen, Barron, and Machans Beach) in the Cairns Region, Queensland, Australia. The first Barron River Bridge was built by John Holland Constructions in 1977. On 12 August 1978 it was named after William Walter Mason, the first settler who bought land on the north side of the Barron River in 1882.The first bridge was converted to southbound traffic after the second northbound bridge was built in 1988 as part of the highway duplication project. Both bridges are known as the William Walter Mason Bridges.

Explosives Magazine and Detonator Store is a heritage-listed former gunpowder magazine at Magazine Street, Stratford, Cairns, Cairns Region, Queensland, Australia. It was built in 1901 by JC Thomson. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 21 October 1992.

Barron River is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Queensland.Created at the 1971 redistribution, it currently covers the northern suburbs of Cairns, as well as Kuranda. WWII RAN Fuel Installation is a heritage-listed former fuel depot and now arts centre at Collins Avenue, Edge Hill, Cairns, Cairns Region, Queensland, Australia. It was built in 1943. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 2 February 2007.The building is now home to the Tanks Arts Centre, a multi-use, contemporary arts facility for the visual and performing arts.

Flecker Botanic Gardens is a heritage-listed botanic garden at Collins Avenue, Edge Hill, Queensland, Australia. It was built from 1886 to 1960s. It is now known as Cairns Botanic Gardens, and also known as Edge Hill Nursery, and Fitzalan's Botanical Gardens. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 2 February 2007.

II is located about 10 kilometres north of the city of Cairns between the suburbs of Machans Beach and Yorkeys Knob. Holloways Beach is impacted by noise from Cairns International Airport, which keeps real estate prices in check. From February 2022 to January 2023 the median price for houses has been $540,000 and for units $259,000. However, waterfront properties come also here at a premium, with house well above the million dollar mark.Journalist Chris Calcino from the local newspaper Cairns Post summed up his view about the suburb: "Not even the beach wants to live here. It continually tries to escape but gets cruelly sucked back in when Cairns Regional Council brings heavy machinery to dump new sand as part of its brutal anti-erosion agenda. Strait on the Beach does a fantastic fish burger and doesn't skimp on the ice cream in its iced coffees. Wear a mosquito coil around your neck because you will be mauled."

Edge Hill is an inner suburb of the city of Cairns in Far North Queensland, Australia located approximately four kilometres north west of the city centre. It is a popular residential area surrounded by the forested hills of the Mount Whitfield Conservation Park to the north and west. The hub of the suburb contains shops, cafes and restaurants as well as the Cairns Botanic Gardens and Centenary Lakes.
