The Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute, commonly known as the Baker Institute, is an Australian independent medical research institute headquartered in Melbourne, Victoria. Established in 1926, the institute is one of Australia's oldest medical research organisations with a historical focus on cardiovascular disease. In 2008, it became the country's first medical research institute to target diabetes, heart disease, obesity and their complications at the basic, clinical and population health levels. The institute is located adjacent to The Alfred Hospital within the Alfred Research Alliance Precinct. The institute also has a national Aboriginal Health program, with a research facility in Alice Springs in the Northern Territory.

Wesley College is an independent, co-educational, open-entry private school in Melbourne, Australia. Established in 1866, the college is the only school in Victoria to offer the International Baccalaureate (IB) from early childhood to Year 12.The College consists of three main metropolitan campuses in Melbourne (St Kilda Road, Glen Waverley & Elsternwick), residential/boarding facilities (Glen Waverley), three outdoor education sites (Mallana, Chum Creek, & Lochend), a year 9 residential learning campus in Clunes and the Yiramalay/Wesley Studio School (Yiramalay) in the Kimberley Region.Wesley was the first registered school in Australia and is a founding member of the Associated Public Schools of Victoria (APS). The Victorian College for the Deaf (VCD), located on St Kilda Road in Melbourne, Australia, is Victoria's oldest deaf school, opening in 1860. The Victorian College for the Deaf is Australia's only Prep to Year 12 Specialist in Deaf Education. Education is provided using a bilingual philosophy of teaching through Auslan, the language of the Australian Deaf community, and English as the second language. It has a significant role in the history of Australian Deaf culture.

Melbourne South Province was an electorate of the Victorian Legislative Council. It was created in June 1904 when Melbourne Province was reduced in size (four members down to two) and North Yarra Province and South Yarra Province were abolished. The new Melbourne South, Melbourne North, Melbourne East and Melbourne West Provinces were then created.Melbourne South was defined by the Electoral Provinces Boundaries Act 1903 (taking effect from the 1904 elections) as being bound by: the Yarra River at Clarendon Street, south-east to Dorcas Street, Nelson Road, Cowie and Pickles Street, Hobson's Bay to Glenhuntly Road, Point Nepean Road to North Road, Bambra Road to the Rosstown Railway then west to Kooyong Road, to Dandenong Road, to Hornby Street, to High Street, to Bendigo Street then north by Surrey Road to the Eastern Railway, then to a line with Clara Street, to Toorak Road, to the east boundary of portion 9, parish of Prahran; then north by that boundary to the Yarra River; and then westerly by that river to the commencing point.Melbourne South was abolished when the new Higinbotham and Monash Provinces were created in 1937.

South Yarra Province was an electorate of the Victorian Legislative Council from November 1882 until May 1904.South Yarra Province was created in the redistribution of provinces in 1882 when the Central and Eastern Provinces were abolished. The new South Yarra, North Yarra, North Central, South Eastern and Melbourne Provinces were then created. The Legislative Council Act, 1881, created and defined the South Yarra Province as: Commencing at a point on the Yarra river at Princes Bridge; thence south-easterly by the Brighton Road to High street; thence east by that street to the Punt Road; thence north by the last-named road to Yarra river, aforesaid; thence easterly, northerly, and easterly by that river to the north-east angle of allotment 52 parish of Boroondara; thence south by the east boundary of that allotment and by the Burke Road to the Kooyong Koot creek; thence north-westerly by that creek to the Yarra river aforesaid; thence west by that river to the north-east angle of allotment 18 parish of Prahran; thence south by the Kooyong road to the Dandenong Road; thence westerly by that road to Hotham street; thence south by that street to the Brighton Road; thence south-easterly by that road to the Glen Huntly Road; thence west by the last-named road to St. Kilda Street, Elsternwick; thence south by that street to Park Street; thence west by the last named street to the shore of Port Phillip Bay; thence northerly and westerly by the shores of Port Phillip Bay and Hobson's Bay and northerly by the Yarra river to the south boundary of the township of Footscray; thence east and north by the south and part of the east boundaries of that township to the Yarra river aforesaid; thence easterly by that river to the commencing point. South Yarra Province was abolished in another redistribution of Provinces in 1904; new provinces including East Yarra, Melbourne East Province, Melbourne North Province, Melbourne South Province and Melbourne West Provinces were created.

Fawkner Park is a popular park in Melbourne's South Yarra and part of the City of Melbourne. It provides recreational areas for teams playing Cricket, Softball, Soccer, Australian Rules Football, Tennis and Rugby.

Albert Cricket Ground, also known as the Albert Reserve and previously as the Warehouseman's Cricket Ground, is a cricket ground in St Kilda, Victoria. It is operated by the Melbourne Cricket Club (MCC), and used as its primary home ground in the Victorian Premier Cricket competition.

The Photographers' Gallery and Workshop (1973–2010) was an Australian photography gallery established in South Yarra, a suburb of Melbourne, and which ran almost continuously for nearly forty years. Its representation, in the 1970s and 1980s, of contemporary and mid-century, mostly American and some European original fine prints from major artists was influential on Australian audiences and practitioners, while a selection of the latter's work sympathetic to the gallery ethos was shown alternately and then dominated the program.

Sheridan Close is a low-rise apartment complex situated on 485–489 St Kilda Road, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. It has direct access onto Fawkner Park at the rear of the building. It was designed by the architect Sir Bernard Evans, who later became Lord Mayor of Melbourne (between 1959 and 1961), and was built by Prentice Builders. Sheridan Close is described as "a stylistic hybrid", combining a concave regency façade, Georgian proportioned windows and Art Deco influences, with serrated side elevations to ensure views of St Kilda Road.

The Murphy raids on the offices of the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (ASIO) occurred on 16 March 1973. The purpose of the raids, instigated by Attorney-General Lionel Murphy, was to obtain terrorism-related information that the ASIO was accused of withholding. Murphy was operating without any permission from the Prime Minister at the time, Gough Whitlam or the Cabinet. No warrants were obtained from the judiciary. Although called "raids", the only raid carried out was on the Canberra office as this was by surprise whereas the investigation of the Melbourne office (ASIO's headquarters) was done hours after the Director-General had been informed of Murphy's intentions.

Newburn Flats is an apartment building located at 30 Queens Road, Melbourne. It is considered one of the first examples of European Modernist ideals applied to multi-unit residences in Australia. It was designed by the firm Romberg & Shaw (Frederick Romberg and Mary Turner Shaw) in 1939 and completed in 1941.

Prahran railway station (/pɛ'ræn) is located on the Sandringham line in Victoria, Australia. It serves the south-eastern Melbourne suburb of Prahran, and opened on 22 December 1860 as Greville Street. It was renamed Prahran on 1 January 1867.In 1962, boom barriers replaced interlocked gates at the Greville Street level crossing, located at the Up end of the station. The signal box was also abolished during that time.In October 1979, automatic semaphore signals were replaced with light signals between Prahran and Windsor.
