Ascona Jazz Festival

Casa Monte Tabor is a cultural-historic significant building in Porto Ronco, a district of Ronco sopra Ascona, in the Swiss canton of Ticino. In 1931, writer Erich Maria Remarque (1898–1970) bought the villa and lived there until his death. His wife Paulette Goddard (1910–1990) inherited the property from him. After her death the canton of Ticino confiscated the property, which was owned by different people after that. Casa Monte Tabor is also known as Villa Tabor, Villa Remarque or Villa Remarque Goddard.

Ascona (Ticinese: Scona [ˈʃkona]) is a municipality in the district of Locarno in the canton of Ticino in Switzerland. It is located on the shore of Lake Maggiore. The town is a popular tourist destination and holds the yearly Ascona Jazz Festival.

The Melezza, in Italy the Melezzo Orientale, is a 42 km Alpine torrent which runs through the eastern part of the Val Vigezzo, in the Province of Verbano Cusio Ossola, northern Italy; and through the Centovalli of Canton Ticino, Switzerland. Belonging to the Po basin, it is a tributary of the Maggia which in its turn flows into Lago Maggiore. The springs are on the eastern slopes of Pioda di Crana. To begin with the river runs south forming the deep valley of Arvogno (a locality within the commune of Toceno); near Santa Maria Maggiore (VB) the course turns east and takes it through the gentler slopes of the high plain which forms the central section of the Val Vigezzo; at Malesco it is joined by the Loana. Having passed through Re the valley narrows and the torrent begins to run through restricted gorges, entering in this manner Swiss territory, where it is known simply as the Melezza. Its course then runs through the Centovalli and the municipalities of Borgnone, Palagnedra and Intragna. Having been joined by its most important tributary, the Isorno, it flows into the Maggia at Losone, just before the Maggia enters Lago Maggiore. A little after the Italian-Swiss border, near Palagnedra, a dam was built across the river in the years 1951–52 to create the Lago di Palagnedra, a reservoir which provides hydropower.

It is a Swiss heritage site of national significance.In January 2004, the Italian historian Marino Vigano' speculated that it may have been designed by Leonardo da Vinci: after 7 years of studies, the Leonardo's Rivellino was recognized as a Da Vinci project.

Sant`Abbondio is a former municipality in the district of Locarno in the canton of Ticino in Switzerland. On 25 April 2010, the former municipalities of Caviano, Contone, Gerra Gambarogno, Indemini, Magadino, Piazzogna, San Nazzaro, Sant'Abbondio and Vira Gambarogno merged in the new municipality of Gambarogno.

Gerra (Gambarogno) railway station (Italian: Stazione di Gerra (Gambarogno)) is a railway station in the municipality of Gambarogno, in the Swiss canton of Ticino. It is an intermediate stop on the standard gauge Cadenazzo–Luino line of Swiss Federal Railways.

Ranzo-Sant'Abbondio railway station (Italian: Stazione di Ranzo-Sant'Abbondio) is a railway station in the municipality of Gambarogno, in the Swiss canton of Ticino. It is an intermediate stop on the standard gauge Cadenazzo–Luino line of Swiss Federal Railways and is final station north of the border between Switzerland and Italy.

The Locarno Film Festival is an annual film festival, held every August in Locarno, Switzerland. Founded in 1946, the festival screens films in various competitive and non-competitive sections, including feature-length narrative, documentary, short, avant-garde, and retrospective programs. The Piazza Grande section is held in an open-air venue that seats 8,000 spectators.The top prize of the festival is the Golden Leopard, awarded to the best film in the International Competition. Other awards include the Leopard of Honour for career achievement, and the Prix du Public, the public choice award.

The Brissago Islands (Italian: Isole di Brissago) are a group of two islands located in the Swiss part of Lake Maggiore close to Ronco sopra Ascona and Brissago. Both islands belong to the district of Locarno, in the canton of Ticino. San Pancrazio (also known as Grande Isola) is larger and is well known for its botanical garden. On the smaller island, known as Isolino, Isola Piccola or Isola di Sant’Apollinare, the vegetation is allowed to develop naturally. Both benefit from the mild climate provided by the lake. The minimum distance from the shore is 1,040 metres for San Pancrazio and 930 metres for Sant'Apollinare, making them the farthest islands from the shore in Switzerland. Both islands culminate at 200 metres above sea level or 7 metres above lake level (193 m).

The Madonna del Sasso is a Marian Pontifical shrine in Orselina, above the city of Locarno in Switzerland. It is the principal sight and goal of religious pilgrimage in the city. It is one of two namesake churches, the other being in Salinas, California, United States.The founding of the sanctuary goes back to the Franciscan friar Bartolomeo de Ivrea who reputedly sighted an Marian apparition on 15 August 1480. The church interior is highly ornate and decorated, and a platform has panoramic views of the city. The sanctuary is linked to Locarno city centre by the Locarno–Madonna del Sasso funicular. On 14 August 1880, the Vatican Chapter under Pope Leo XIII issued a Pontifical decree which crowned the venerated image via the former Archbishop of Milan, Paolo Angelo Ballerini, following festivities of August 15–16, marking the 400 years of its Marian apparition.

The Maggia is a river in the Swiss canton of Ticino. The springs are near the Cristallina mountain at 8136 ft (2480 m). The river runs through the Val Sambuco, the Val Lavizzara, and the Valle Maggia, and enters Lago Maggiore between Ascona and Locarno. The village Maggia is situated on the river. The river is used for hydroelectric power production, e.g. with the dams of Lago del Narèt and Lago del Sambuco near the sources.The Maggia river is a popular scuba diving spot due to its crystal clear waters. The name of the river derives from the name of the village Maggia. In the 1990s the river had a European record: the river that grew fastest during rains. This characteristic led to many tragedies in the past. One involved the collapse of a bridge connecting the old Maggia to Aurigeno and Moghegno which killed many people in the 1970s.
